00:00 Because of the high supply, the price of onions has fallen this year.
00:04 But many agricultural products have fallen because of the loss of farmers from December to January.
00:13 The highest price of tomatoes was raised.
00:16 We have first news from Bernadette Reyes.
00:19 Three kilos of rice is what the Ondiana family consumes every day, which has seven members.
00:28 If you include the food, it's less than 500 pesos per day.
00:32 It's very hard, especially if there are a lot of people inside the house.
00:35 And rice is very expensive.
00:38 According to the GMA Integrated News Research from the Philippine Statistics Authority,
00:43 21 out of 34 agricultural products fell in the first half of February compared to January.
00:52 The highest price of tomatoes was raised by 24 pesos per kilo.
00:56 Rice, beef, garlic and calamansi are also expensive.
01:00 The reason seen by the Sinag group is...
01:02 Last time, many farmers lost their crops between December and January.
01:07 Now, it has decreased.
01:10 But we think that by March, the price will normalize.
01:14 The Department of Agriculture said that the price of tomatoes is not high because of the lack of supply.
01:21 Although there are places where the rain has affected,
01:24 here in Nueva Ecija, there is a reduction in the area where tomatoes are planted.
01:29 And the price of rice may also drop, like in the World Market.
01:34 In the Sinag price, even if each kilo of rice reaches 58 pesos,
01:38 47 to 48 pesos of well-milled rice can be purchased.
01:43 The price of the Agriculture Department is 44 to 46 pesos.
01:48 Onions, sugar and oil are also cheap.
01:51 Here in Cadiwa Market in Quezon City, red onions are sold for 50 pesos per kilo.
01:57 White onions are 35 pesos per kilo.
02:01 But according to the group of the Samahang Industrial Agricultural,
02:04 the farm meat price of onions can still drop to 10 to 15 pesos per kilo.
02:09 There are a lot of us who are not able to sell it yet.
02:13 That's why we are selling it here.
02:16 The cost of selling is really high.
02:18 Before, it was 700 pesos per kilo.
02:25 According to the DA, the number of people who were forced to plant onions increased
02:28 when the price of onions dropped, so the supply increased as well.
02:32 There will be market linkages.
02:34 It can be tied up with our Cadiwa,
02:37 and hopefully with other farmers in Southern Tagalog.
02:44 But according to the Sinag group, the price of onions has been affected.
02:49 We saw that there was an entry that there is no SPSIC.
02:53 They should catch the price of onions by March.
02:57 We are really afraid that the price of onions will drop to 10 to 15 pesos per kilo.
03:04 It should have dropped to 30 pesos to 33 pesos per kilo
03:08 so that the farmers can earn a little.
03:11 This is the first news. Bernadette Reyes for GMA Integrated News.
