Vanessa Williams on New Music, Return to Theatre, and Taking Career Risks

Triple threat, Vanessa Williams turned 60 last year, but she reassured us she is not slowing down anytime soon when we caught up with her at Pamella Rolands' New York Fashion Week Fall 2024 runway show this month. The actress/singer is releasing new music (her first album since 2009), a dance record that she said will make you shake a tail feather. 'I'm really excited because I'm still here, still standing and still kicking. And that's exactly what the first line of the whole song is' she says of the first single titled 'Legs.' She is also starring as Miranda Priestly in a musical version of The Devil Wears Prada in London's West End and producing four upcoming projects.

00:00 Hey, it's Vanessa Williams and you're watching Life Minute TV.
00:03 New music coming out. A lot of stance. So get ready to shake a tail feather.

00:15 My last album was 2009, so it'll be nice to get out again. I turned 60 last year and my first
00:22 single is all about being there and it's called "Legs." I'm really excited because I'm still here,
00:27 still standing and still kicking and that's exactly what the first line of the whole song is.
00:32 New music coming out and working on some theater stuff and producing. I've got
00:36 four projects that I'm working on producing, so a lot of stuff in the till.
00:41 Don't just sit there. Buy tickets or something.
00:44 A, be a pro. Show up on time, know your stuff. Be accountable, independable and reliable.
00:50 Never stop learning. Never be stuck. Always be willing to try new things. People that continue
00:58 to move forward take risks. It's that fire in your belly that said, "I've never done that,
01:03 but let's try it." Most unexpected risk was being in the Miss America Passion because I had no
01:09 intention and I won everything Syracuse, New York and America in six months, which completely
01:15 changed my life at 20 years old so I would definitely say that was the biggest.
