GALE caught up with Billboard's Jessica Roiz at the 2024 Premio Lo Nuestro.

00:06 Tell us, what brings you here? I am so excited to be here, so excited to see you. I love

00:11 encountering my Billboard fam. I'm nominated for Mejor Nuevo Artista, Artista Revelación Femenina.

00:20 It's a blessing, it's an honor sharing that nomination with such great artists, but also

00:27 just to be here celebrating music, that's my favorite part of any show. It's like just

00:32 witness the music, the musicians, the artists, and just being together and the energy around it.

00:38 You've, I mean you started your career not that long ago, it's you know, you're still very up and

00:44 coming, but yet you have all these nominations, you have, you've charted on the Billboard charts.

00:49 How do you feel that you've gotten or you've gained that respect from the music industry?

00:55 This is such a weird question. I feel like, well I started writing with other artists

01:02 and as a songwriter, so I kind of build a reputation doing that first, and I feel like

01:11 that's a very special part of my process and my journey. And now that I get to do what I love,

01:17 which has, this has always been my goal, to be a recording artist, to sing my songs, and

01:24 just be able to share who I am with the world. And I am doing that now, so I feel like that has

01:30 to do with that. I feel like just my journey was kind of like that, and I'm just very blessed and

01:35 grateful. Women's History Month is right around the corner. What's that one song that always

01:41 empowers you, always gets you in a good mood, that you always have to press play and it just

01:46 switches you up? I'm thinking like other artists. I am gonna say "Las de la Intuicion" by Shakira.

01:59 I love that song. And if I would have to say... Right? I know. And I did my own styling today.

02:07 I'm like, I'm going with a 90s edgy queen. But if I would have to say one of my songs,

02:15 maybe "Uno Mas Uno" because it's about putting yourself first, loving yourself,

02:19 choosing yourself, and I think it's a very powerful message.
