00:00 Here in Exmouth there are signs that the storm system from ex-tropical cyclone Lincoln is
00:07 now starting to arrive in town.
00:09 It's been very hot for the last few days and very calm as well, but it is now a lot more
00:14 muggy since this morning.
00:16 The clouds have come over and there's been the first few drops of rain.
00:20 That's expected to only intensify as we go further into Friday and into Saturday, which
00:25 is when the cyclone is expected to make landfall.
00:29 Current projections were expecting that to be somewhere between Coral Bay and Carnarvon,
00:34 which is about an hour and 40 minutes from where I'm standing now.
00:40 Locals here are doing everything that they can to prepare.
00:43 This is an area that is used to cyclones.
00:45 They know how to prepare.
00:47 Sandbags have been put around important buildings around town and people's homes.
00:52 People with caravans and boats have stored those away in safe storage containers.
00:57 And there's also a few shops in town that have closed off for today and will continue
01:01 to be closed for the weekend.
01:05 Of course a lot of people are actually looking forward to heavy rains that we're expecting
01:09 to get.
01:10 They're expecting more than 100 mils of rain to hit this area over the next few days is
01:15 what the Exmouth Shire President had to say about that.
01:19 Very exciting.
01:20 We haven't had rain for ages.
01:21 I didn't know what it was on my windscreen for a while there.
01:25 I had to clean it off.
01:26 But we're anticipating to get a fair bit of rain out of this system.
01:30 At the last update it was quite a compact system, so depending on how close the track
01:35 comes to the coast is how much rain we'll get.
01:38 But they're anticipating 50, 3 to 150 mil of rain.
01:41 Now it's fair to say that locals aren't particularly worried about this cyclone system in terms
01:47 of any serious loss to damage to property or risk to life.
01:52 They've seen many bigger cyclones come here before in the past, but nonetheless they're
01:58 going to be on high alert for the rest of Friday and indeed until tomorrow.
