Reporter Catherine Musgrove gets out to see just how bad the potholes on her daily commute really are.
Transcript
00:00 Last year I had to replace two front tyres on my car because of pothole damage and I'm absolutely sick of having to slalom my way around potholes everywhere I go.
00:12 So I've gone out and had a look at the roads on my daily commute. These roads are all owned and maintained by Lancashire County Council.
00:25 That one looks like it's 4cm or 1.5 inches deep.
00:30 For a continuation of that same road, just come round the bend, look at the state of it.
00:40 Again a reminder, this is a road that is under the responsibility of Lancashire County Council. Let's go and see how deep they are.
00:49 And this one is nearly 2 inches deep.
00:52 Potholes like this are really difficult to avoid, especially when there's other traffic coming in the road.
01:01 Look at the state of this one, right outside Hickories.
01:14 This is pretty bad, that's on the footpath. If it's safe to do, I'll try and get my tape measure in that one.
01:23 This is another one on the same stretch of road.
01:39 Pay attention to this as well, as well as all the potholes that there are everywhere.
01:44 This raised bit of tarmac here, this bit here, terrible for cycling.
01:53 The area by the old workhouse is particularly bad. Let's have a quick look.
02:03 So that's what I found in an around 4 mile round journey in the South Ribble area.
02:09 What I would say is that the puddles there are masking some of the potholes.
02:15 You can't really see how bad they are, but then that brings into play the fact that you can't actually see where the potholes are, and so you're more likely to hit them.
02:23 to hit them.
