00:27 My name is Anam Hussain and I was born in the Mughal city of Lahore.
00:32 [Music]
00:34 I am the founder and publisher of Capra Falconeri Traveler Magazine,
00:38 which is an independent print publication dedicated to promoting the tourism and travel of Pakistan.
00:45 [Music]
00:47 My journey with the magazine started in 2019.
00:51 I was in the UK in a well-known bookstore.
00:54 I needed up-to-date travel publications, books and literature from Pakistan to do some research.
01:01 [Music]
01:04 After spending 30 minutes in the shop, I found travel literature in every small country.
01:10 Every UN-recognized country was on the shelf.
01:13 But there was nothing in Pakistan.
01:16 I was curious, angry and it really upset me.
01:20 [Music]
01:23 I thought about the response to this brief interaction.
01:29 From that day, I started to vision that Pakistan should put a sustainable, eco-friendly paper on the shelf.
01:37 Something that we can touch, feel and see proudly next to all the international publications.

01:46 So, this journey from narrating to actually having a finished product, there's a big gap in between.
01:53 I needed something symbolic and national.
01:57 So, I thought why not the national animal of Pakistan, the Markhor.
02:01 I added its scientific name, Capra Falconeri, and added traveler.
02:07 [Music]
02:10 I needed unique content for it.
02:12 I have been traveling deeply across Pakistan since 2016.
02:16 I was collecting photographs and writing stories.
02:20 So, that really helped.
02:21 My aim was to tell authentic Pakistani stories.

02:27 Publishing a magazine is not an easy task.
02:32 It involves a lot of distribution cost, production cost and editing.
02:37 I have been very fortunate that my family and parents really supported me.
02:43 A friend helped me a lot in editing the task.
02:46 [Music]
02:49 Finally, the magazine was edited, printed and published in the UK in 2021.
02:56 It was stocked in Magazine Heaven, which is a UK-based, diverse, independent magazine store.
03:02 [Music]
03:05 I started getting emails from diverse audiences.
03:10 Some were from London, and others were from other countries.
03:12 They said they read my magazine and saw it.
03:15 They said they booked tickets to Pakistan because they wanted to travel and see the places I featured.
03:20 It was so overwhelming.
03:22 It was a great honor for me that they gave me such good feedback and appreciated it.
03:27 [Music]
03:30 It was then picked up by Condé Nast, which is the world's leading luxury travel brand.
03:35 They interviewed me, featured my magazine and defined it as a fresh narrative on Pakistan.
03:43 [Music]
03:46 I was also awarded by the British Pakistani Forum in Birmingham for promoting Pakistan's tourism in the UK.
03:52 I have grown up between the UK and Pakistan.
03:56 I graduated from Coventry University and I did post-graduation from Birmingham University.
04:02 [Music]
04:05 In trying to find a place of home and a sense of home, I started writing about the beauty of the two countries.
04:15 Since 2020, I have been writing for Al Jazeera as a diaspora journalist.
04:20 I am also a contributing travel writer with Condé Nast. I try to present stories of Pakistan.
04:29 [Music]
04:32 Last summer, I explored Skardu.
04:34 I featured Karachi as a scuba diving destination and overall Pakistan as a trekking destination.
04:41 [Music]
04:44 My personal mission is to advocate for the authentic representation of Pakistan.
04:50 [Music]
04:53 My future goal is to brand Pakistan on a global stage.
04:58 My publication, my magazine, should be a strong slogan of Pakistan.
05:04 So that we can compete in the world's noisy, crowded markets.
05:08 We can make our identity.
05:11 I will continue writing in international media for the right image of Pakistan, for the authentic image of Pakistan.
05:20 Continue exploring Pakistan and continue publishing more editions of my magazine.
05:26 [Music]
05:29 I would like to thank HBL, PSL and Kingdom Valley for choosing me as one of the Hamare Heroes.
05:36 It is a great honour for me that my voice, the voice of a small journalist, was amplified on such a grand narrative.
05:46 Thank you so much.
