00:03 - We looked at the All-Star game,
00:04 not a great ratings bonanza here,
00:06 but also you still have to make a pitch to the NBA
00:09 on why you wanna host All-Star weekend.
00:11 It looks like the Suns in 2027 are going to get that.
00:15 Rick, what goes into making a pitch here
00:17 to get an NBA All-Star team or All-Star game?
00:19 - Same thing, same thing that goes into making a pitch
00:22 on all of these other mega events like Toronto
00:25 that just happened for NHL All-Star week
00:27 and Super Bowl and World Cup
00:29 and all the mega events.
00:31 You've got the tourist board
00:32 that funds significant dollars for promotion and subsidy,
00:37 they don't like to call it that, but they do.
00:39 Then the hotels step up and commit to guarantees
00:42 that they're not gonna gouge everybody.
00:44 You've gotta have a city that has enough hotel rooms
00:47 to accommodate the weekend.
00:49 The standard now is what came out of Vegas
00:52 for the Super Bowl last month,
00:54 and now it ratchets up for everybody else.
00:57 Matt Ishbia wanting to make a major commitment in Phoenix
01:00 because of the Suns.
01:01 He rallies the troops, gets everybody together,
01:04 says this is our infrastructure-laden community,
01:08 so let's have the Suns stand out.
01:10 You can't blame 'em.
01:12 The allure is the team is the last one to make money
01:16 when the All-Star weekend comes to you in any sport,
01:20 but you can get increased season ticket prices,
01:22 preferences on future deals, major corporate sponsorship.
01:26 So it's kind of a lost leader for the team,
01:29 and Matt Ishbia and the Suns are all in.
