00:00 Color analysis is not new, but it does feel like it has become the new big thing in the
00:07 fashion world.
00:08 And I have been dying to learn more, and I'm so pleased to have Sarah Williams here in
00:11 studio to tell us all about color analysis and give us a little sample of what it's all
00:16 about.
00:17 Welcome, Sarah.
00:18 Thank you for being here.
00:19 Thank you for having me.
00:20 Absolutely.
00:21 And I am Sarah Williams with House of Color in North Phoenix, and I have been doing this
00:27 for the last three years now, and the really cool thing about House of Color is we use
00:32 this color wheel to determine your color palette.
00:35 Okay, so before we get into that, I want to kind of break down what this means and why
00:39 it's important, because people out there might be like, "I've never heard of this.
00:43 What does that even mean?"
00:44 So what does it mean to know your color palette?
00:47 So once you know your color palette, I'm particularly in autumn, so all my colors in the autumn season
00:53 harmonize and go together.
00:55 So if I have this, if I'm wearing this, I could wear any of these other colors with
01:01 this particular season, this particular color.
01:05 If I move it outside of the other colors, it doesn't really go.
01:10 So when you're building a wardrobe, it just simplifies everything, and you know you're
01:15 going to look your best because you've done the color analysis.
01:19 You know that this season is best for you, whatever it may be.
01:24 Spring, autumn, winter, summer.
01:26 So you are in autumn, you said.
01:27 I am in autumn.
01:28 And I was going to guess that because this is the color that you're wearing.
01:30 It obviously looks really good on you.
01:32 Why is it that certain colors look better on certain people?
01:37 I mean, what is that about?
01:39 So whenever you come for your color analysis appointment, we do everything in natural lighting.
01:44 We have no makeup on, no self-tanner, because we want to really look at your undertones,
01:49 take in all your natural coloring.
01:52 And then we do our process.
01:53 It's basically a process of elimination using our drapes to eliminate if you are warm or
02:00 cool.
02:01 And then once we know if you're warm or cool, then we narrow it down to the very specific
02:06 season.
02:07 Okay, so can we try a little bit of this for me?
02:10 Let's do it.
02:11 Okay, I would love that.
02:12 Let's do it.
02:13 Can we get a chair so that we can kind of see how this is going to work?
02:16 All right, so the guys are bringing in a chair.
02:18 So this is what would happen when people come to your studio.
02:22 They will sit down and you have all of the different color, what did you call them?
02:28 The drapes?
02:29 Drapes, color drapes that you put on people.
02:31 Okay, so you go visit Sarah in North Scottsdale.
02:35 This is what you're going to do.
02:36 North Phoenix, yep.
02:37 And I am going to just hop around here.
02:39 Sorry about that.
02:40 No, thank you.
02:41 And what we do is we compare and contrast.
02:43 We want to see what we're looking for.
02:46 We want to see what changes are happening with your face.
02:48 All right.
02:49 So we'll put our first drape up and I'm going to tie this behind you here.
02:55 And we want to see what's happening with your face.
02:58 Is your complexion nice and clear?
03:01 If you have any blemishes, are those standing out?
03:03 Are they nice and blended?
03:05 Are we creating shadows?
03:07 Are we, you know, circles under the eyes?
03:10 We want all that to look nice and smooth.
03:12 So we have this color on and then we put another color on next to it.
03:17 This would be our warm color.
03:18 The first color was our cool color.
03:21 And so now we see that she has her warm color on.
03:25 We'll remove it and take a look and see what she looks like with the cool.
03:30 And we make our judgments based on that.
03:33 It is a process that we go through because colors, all colors look different on everybody.
03:38 And so we want to make sure we have the perfect match.
03:42 And so I'm going to grab just a couple more here that we can see.
03:46 So this is so interesting because I am of the mind that I always thought you just have
03:50 certain colors that you do look good in and that you don't look good in.
03:53 But this is so much more involved than that.
03:56 This is a whole season of colors.
03:57 So you really have a huge variety of colors that you can wear.
04:01 It's not just, oh, I look good in blues.
04:03 So I'll just buy a lot of blue.
04:05 You have a bunch of different hues of blue, red, green, yellow that you can get all in
04:10 that season.
04:11 And typically, as you can see, most seasons or all seasons have all the colors in them.
04:17 It's just about that particular tone, that shade, and what's going to really enhance
04:22 your particular features.
04:24 And so it's a very individual process.
04:28 And the other great thing about House of Color is we also offer a makeup line as well, which
04:33 is in your season.
04:35 So there's no guessing on what color lipstick should I be wearing or what color blushes.
04:42 That's great.
04:43 It's not just the clothes.
04:44 It's everything you put on.
04:45 That is correct.
04:46 And you also will take home a color fan.
04:48 So you'll have a sample of all your seasons or all your colors in your season.
04:53 And then we do talk about extra stuff-- hair color, accessories-- so you know you're very
05:00 best and can look and feel your very best.
05:02 I always say it's like a dose of confidence when you leave our studios.
05:06 That's great.
05:07 OK, so just really quickly, I know we didn't do the full thing because obviously we don't
05:10 have the right lighting.
05:11 I'm wearing makeup, all of those kind of factors.
05:13 But what would you guess if you could-- just from the cools and the warms that you just
05:16 put on me?
05:17 It's very hard to tell.
05:18 And honestly, I try not to guess because I feel like guessing, I'm often wrong.
05:24 And I really let the process do the work.
05:27 OK, well, then I'll have to come visit you in North Phoenix so that we can do it for
05:30 real and I can determine what my season is.
05:33 So stay tuned, guys.
05:34 I'll let you know my season at another time.
05:36 But remind us one more time where people can find information.
05:39 On our House of Color website and also at houseofcolor_northphoenix is my Instagram.
05:45 Nice and easy.
05:46 All right, Sarah, thank you so, so much for having me.
05:48 All right, guys, stick around because we have more of the mix after this.
