00:00 Members of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, on Tuesday morning protested nationwide over the biting economic hardship in the country.
00:08 Labour and federal government authorities had met earlier on Monday in a late push to stop the protest,
00:14 but the meeting ended with no agreement reached between the parties.
00:18 As early as 7am Tuesday morning, protesters started gathering in different parts of the country,
00:24 bearing placards and chanting various slogans.

00:56 The Labour Congress was joined by other unions to make this happen.
01:00 Protesters in Lagos had gathered around Ikeja, marching from Ikeja Underbridge to the National Assembly
01:06 behind Lagos State Secretaries to register their grievances included rising cost of living in the country
01:12 and their hashtag #EndHunger protests were clearly visible on their placards.
01:17 They are said to be protesting against the rising cost of living in the country.
01:23 They said since the removal of subsidy last year and the floating of Naira, inflation had continued to soar in Nigeria.
01:50 Speaking during the protest, Femi Falanau faulted provision of palliatives by the government,
01:54 saying that such was not enough to address the economic challenges facing Nigerians.
01:59 He said that the government should rather address youth unemployment,
02:03 calling on the state to put in place a law on social security.
02:07 The state chairman of NLC, Comrade Fume Shese, presented a resolution letter to the Speaker,
02:13 Honorable Mudashiru Adjaye Obasa, to present to Governor Sonwolu,
02:18 calling on members of the House to amend bills that would improve the living conditions of residents.
02:24 The prices of goods and services are now out of reach of ordinary and common man.
02:32 And it would not be the workers that we are earning salaries.
02:36 These salaries is no longer able to take us everywhere we go.
02:42 Now we can no longer provide the basic needs for our families.
02:49 On a daily basis, some of our workers and some of the Nigerians, now they do 1-0-0, but they do 0-1-0.
03:01 If we eat once a day, we go to bed.
03:05 We are no family now, as they are children.
03:08 When you are well-fed, you try to provide.
03:13 And if some families could no longer, now is the time we have to provide for them.
03:20 Insecurity is on the rise.
03:25 Every region and every ethnicity, they run to legals for protection.
03:31 Are we going to continue in this way?
03:34 Besides, he urged the Speaker to communicate to the Governor to come out to address them tomorrow
03:39 on how numerous changes facing the country is being undue.
03:43 We want the government, we want the President to hear that Nigerians are hungry.
03:51 The center can no longer hold.
03:55 We are hungry and we are hungry.
03:59 And hungry persons are hungry.
04:03 And from being hungry, we want to be good to the world.
04:09 We want the government policies to be the positive ones that will bring the best relief for the people.
04:18 It is also noteworthy to state that heavy police presence was spotted at different parts of Lagos.
04:23 Police operatives in Lagos were also spotted distributing water and biscuits to protesters during the war.

04:39 The demonstrations will continue in different parts of the country tomorrow Wednesday, March 28, 2024.
