Sean Payton Gives Scouting Report on New DB Coach Jim Leonhard

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton replaced Christian Parker who left for the Philadelphia Eagles with Jim Leonhard.

00:08 Christian's really sharp.

00:10 I'd say his degree, if you will,

00:14 in defensive football is in that scheme.

00:17 He was a pleasure to work with.

00:19 And I'm excited that he has that opportunity.

00:22 Vic and I talked at length about Christian.

00:24 He was one of the coaches that we kept

00:26 from last year's staff.

00:28 Christian left and we hired Jim Leonard.

00:30 Jim was someone that I had spoken with last offseason.

00:33 He actually played for us briefly.

00:37 I know he played for Denver for a year.

00:39 He had hip replacement surgery last year,

00:43 so he was kind of gonna be in a position

00:47 where he couldn't commit to a full-time job.

00:51 He helped out Illinois.

00:52 I think that he's extremely bright.

00:55 He was as a player.

00:57 He solved all the problems as a player.

01:00 He was in Buffalo, the Jets, Baltimore, Denver.

01:03 He played 10 years.

01:06 And I think he's got one of these high ceilings

01:10 that we see with some young coaches.

01:12 And I say young, but it's kind of all relative.

01:15 I think a lot of him.

01:17 And we spent a lot of time on that process.
