00:00 Hello, I'm Gill Buchanan, the editor of the Volker Kerold, and I'm here to tell you about
00:04 some of the stories that are making the headlines in our print edition, which is on sale now.
00:08 We lead on some good news. An inspirational teenager who struggled at school but managed
00:13 to get an apprenticeship with the butcher and is now in the running for a top award.
00:17 Well done to Mark Ingram of Lang Lees. And for little Campbell Huggins of Denny, February
00:24 29 is a very special day. It's his birthday, and although he turns four in 2024, it's the
00:29 first time celebrating on the actual day. Happy birthday, Campbell. Volker Council has
00:35 agreed to accept the Scottish Government's council tax freeze. But while this charge
00:39 won't be increased, householders face a raft of increases elsewhere, including brown bin
00:44 permits going up from £25 to £45, and the cost of burials and cremations increasing
00:50 by 30%. We've also got a look at the large scale maintenance project at the Volker Quill,
00:56 and news that behind the scenes tours at the tourist attraction are making a comeback.
01:02 And it's happy birthday to Mae Garrow, who turned 100 at the weekend, and is the oldest
01:06 living former Bowness Fair Queen. A fatal accident inquiry into the death of a Calichem
01:12 worker in Gangemouth heard that it took almost 90 minutes for an ambulance to arrive, despite
01:18 several 999 calls. And we've got all the pictures from four teenagers at Denny High School having
01:23 their hair shaved off to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
01:28 Historian Ian Scott provides a fascinating insight into the Dawson family, whose name
01:33 is synonymous with Bainsford. And in sport, we've got all the usual football, rugby, basketball,
01:38 and the success of Falkirk Vics at the weekend's cross-country event in Callendar Park. All
01:44 these stories and lots more are in a print edition, which is on sale now, and also online
01:49 at www.falkirkherald.co.uk.
01:54 Thank you.
