IFAB are introducing a "Blue Card" to top-level football.
In an attempt to curb what they perceive as 'cheating', referees will now have the power to temporarily send players off.
But how will this work in practice, when could we see it in the Premier League, and would this even work in the first place? FourFourTwo's Adam Clery takes a minute to compose himself, and explains.

00:00 *ding*
00:02 Yeah, so promised myself I was gonna be sort of dead calm and composed and impartial about this
00:07 But the breaking news today from the Telegraph here in merry old England is that they're going to bring in
00:13 Blue cards in football that is a thing that's going to happen. It is a thing you are going to see
00:20 Yes, according to Telegraph Sport IFAB, which is the
00:23 International
00:25 Federation
00:26 About boobies? No. International Football Association
00:30 Board have signed off on what would be the first rule to bring a new card into football since the 1970s and that is
00:37 Blue cards the sin bin card in football
00:42 It will be issued for dissent or for cynical fouls anything basically that brings the game into
00:49 Disrepute and if you are to receive a blue card, then you are forced to leave the field for ten
00:56 Minutes you are allowed to then come back on we have to go off
00:59 That period of time the full details of how exactly it's gonna work aren't available yet
01:04 But it'll sort of go something like this if you routinely speak back to the referee
01:08 Which you're not supposed to and you get a yellow card for you now get a blue card
01:12 Which means you have to go off the pitch for ten minutes and if a promising attack is developing and you side somebody down
01:18 Or you pull them back again for which you would currently get a yellow card
01:22 You'll be shown a blue one instead and you'll have to leave the pitch. They've also said as well
01:26 They're just like yellow cards if you get two blue cards you get a red so you get sent off
01:31 Well, I don't really how does if you get a second blue you get a ten minute sin bin
01:36 And then you're just not allowed to come back a red card does that anyway?
01:40 Also, you can mix them up
01:42 So if you get a yellow and then you get a blue then you're off or if you've already had a blue and you get
01:47 A yellow then you're off. It's so stupid, isn't it? And if I'm honest
01:51 I'm not really sure where to start on this my gut reaction
01:56 Is that I absolutely hate this rule and isn't just because I find the concept of sin bins just like really
02:03 I don't know small time and just pointless. That's that's by the by
02:07 You should just be allowed to do cynical fouls
02:11 Like I know that sounds bad
02:13 But they are part of the game like maybe the descent side of it. I can kind of get on board
02:17 So ten minutes, that's just a huge chunk of the game of football seems way excessive to me
02:23 But this obsession that the game has at the minute of cutting down all
02:27 Elements of gamesmanship of keeping it noble and honest and true. That's that's not the game
02:32 We love if you really hate shit housing that much then go watch cricket go for a walk
02:38 Like one of the best things about football is the professional levels of bastardry it has anyway, sorry
02:44 I'll put my head back on this is happening because they've been trialing them in the very very lower leagues of football across Europe and
02:50 Have decided that they have been a success
02:52 They've been used in grassroots football in Wales for example
02:55 And now I fab who despite the fact they like don't have a tournament or a video game series
03:00 Named after them do kind of control the whole world of football have decided that they are gonna go ahead with them
03:07 Now as for the when that will happen, that's the one thing that's kind of a little bit unclear at the minute
03:11 They have said they're gonna be beginning elite trials as soon as this summer
03:15 Which we'll see it tested at the very top level of the professional game
03:18 But the very top tier competitions across the world are gonna be excluded from that initial testing phase in case and I quote
03:25 Protocols require further refinement and oh, that's weird
03:29 I don't know about you, but I can't think of any
03:32 Major rule change they've brought in football in the last couple of years which definitely
03:39 Needed a lot of work and should not have been
03:42 Forced on the Premier League as soon as it was anyway even worse news if you're in the United Kingdom the Premier League will almost
03:50 Certainly be at the very cutting edge of all of these trials because it was the FA in
03:54 England that actually pushed towards this being trialed in the first place the report in the telegraph to suggest that both the FA Cup and
04:02 the women's FA Cup could be put forward as potential testing grounds for this at the very top level and
04:08 What do you expect when football in this country is largely run by the sort of?
04:13 Range Rover driving jeans and shoe wearing rugby fans who find sin bins entertaining in the first place mercifully though
04:20 They are absolutely not going to get used in the upcoming European Championships because you wait for President
04:25 Alexander Seferin has said he is completely opposed to them and it's not football if you're watching me
04:32 That's a firm handshake
04:34 From me to you there you go figure that out
04:36 I am gonna be down in the comment section of this video because I would dearly
04:39 Like to take the pulse of the footballing world and specifically the 442 audience
04:44 On their feelings to this and if you are not already part of the 442 audience why not press the subscribe button?
04:48 We don't just explain tactics and stuff
04:51 We like to explain all the really mad shit that happens in football if you think you're too good for the comment section though
04:57 And you would like to send me your opinion
04:59 Directly and get me on Twitter at Adam Cleary CLERY and the 442 socials there in the corner of the video for the whole time
05:05 If you haven't noticed them already
05:06 How not? Latest issue of the magazine that's kind of what we do here Alex Ferguson is on the cover plus Venables Palestine Robbie Savage
05:13 Afghan and Trent whatever that means so go spend all your pocket money on that
05:18 Immediately before they kill football forever anyway. That's it blue cards that they're happening. They are happening
05:25 They are absolutely happening. You are going to see them in a game of football you otherwise enjoying
05:30 Goodbye
