00:00 An original recipe chicken fillet, wrapped around the pure foods tender juicy hot dog.
00:07 Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we'll be counting down our picks for the top 30 craziest,
00:13 most decadent and outlandish fast food items of the century so far.
00:17 Two worlds colliding, pizza and cheeseburgers.
00:21 Number 30 - Peanut Butter and Bacon Shake - Sonic
00:25 The drive-in restaurant is known for offering a wide variety of milkshake flavors, with
00:29 new ones added to the menu regularly.
00:31 In 2013, they introduced a wild flavor combination - peanut butter and bacon.
00:41 Although we would have never thought of this pairing by ourselves, we can see why it works.
00:46 Peanuts are often used in sweet and savory dishes.
00:56 Elvis Presley famously combined peanut butter with bacon on his fried banana sandwich.
01:00 That being said, we're still unsure about the choice to blend bacon and peanut butter
01:04 together with ice cream.
01:05 Maybe it's an acquired taste.
01:08 Number 29 - The Breakfast Burger - Carl's Jr.
01:12 Many quick-serve restaurants have breakfast items that cater to morning crowds.
01:15 However, Carl's Jr.'s idea to top a burger with an egg was pretty novel back in 2004.
01:25 The chain, known for its burgers, decided to make one that incorporates more traditional
01:29 breakfast flavors.
01:31 The sandwich was a hit, and has since become a staple of their lineup.
01:34 The charbroiled beef patty comes with the usual toppings like cheese and ketchup, as
01:38 well as bacon, hash browns, and of course, an egg.
01:46 Add in the sesame bun, and you get a pretty massive sandwich that tastes like breakfast
01:49 and lunch.
01:51 Number 28 - Black Jack Taco - Taco Bell
01:54 This menu item was released just in time, and for a limited time, for Halloween in 2009.
02:00 With beef, lettuce, a three-cheese blend, and Baja sauce, the ingredients for the taco
02:05 seemed relatively normal.
02:11 That is, until you considered the black hard-corn shell.
02:14 The dark and edible outer vessel gave a whole new look to the familiar dish.
02:18 The craziest part about it, however, was what happened after you ate it.
02:26 Certain customers reportedly discovered that something in the taco, presumably the shell's
02:30 dye, turned their bowel movements green.
02:33 That's what we call spooky.
02:35 Number 27 - Popcorn Chicken Nacho Box - KFC
02:39 We never would have considered putting popcorn chicken on top of nachos.
02:43 The menu item, released in Australia, was also served with traditional fixings like
02:47 shredded cheese and salsa.
02:55 In case the wacky combination of breaded chicken and nachos wasn't enough for you, the fast
02:59 food joint also introduced a nacho burger to the menu.
03:08 Why pick between different types of cuisine when you could have it all at once?
03:12 Number 26 - Cheesy Macaroni Bites - Jack in the Box
03:16 Mac and cheese isn't a dish we typically think of as portable.
03:20 That changed when Jack in the Box made it into a finger food with this now discontinued
03:24 menu item.
03:25 The triangle-shaped deep-fried pockets were easily hand-held, perfect for eating as you're
03:29 out and about.
03:36 You may remember the ad they released, which highlighted the item's portability by suggesting
03:40 that it was much safer to eat while driving than, say, burgers or hot dogs.
03:44 After being removed from the menu for a brief time, the dish returned in 2021 with a slightly
03:48 different name and look.
03:50 This cylindrical variation was dubbed the Mac and Cheese Bite.
03:57 Number 25 - Oreo Dessert Pizza - Domino's Here's the proof that two delicious foods
04:02 don't always combine well.
04:04 While the idea of an Oreo-inspired pizza is one that had us salivating at first, this
04:08 dish lacked in execution what it had in concept.
04:15 The hot dish consisted of a bland wafer crust, cloyingly sweet vanilla icing, and Oreo cookie
04:21 crumbles.
04:22 Without a good balance of flavor and texture, the end result felt more sad than anything
04:26 else.
04:38 The disappointed response from customers to Domino's' attempt at a dessert pizza was
04:42 pretty unanimous.
04:43 We were hoping this one would be crazy good.
04:46 Unfortunately, it was crazy bad.
04:49 Number 24 - McSalad Shakers - McDonald's Salads aren't the first thing we think of
04:54 when we think of fast food.
05:00 That being said, most chain establishments include some sort of leafy green dish on their
05:04 menu.
05:05 Starting in 2000, McDonald's tried to make salads exciting with their McSalad Shakers.
05:10 They served the meal in a tall cup-like container with a dressing on the side.
05:14 It was up to customers to add the dressing and distribute it by shaking the container,
05:18 like the name suggests.
05:27 The meal came in three different versions - Chef, Chicken Caesar, and Garden.
05:32 Unfortunately, the inventive approach to salad has since been discontinued.
05:36 Number 23 - Foie Gras Rossini Burger - Wendy's Here's something for the high-end foodies.
05:42 The French cuisine-inspired burger debuted in Japan in 2011 when Wendy's was making
05:46 a push to open more locations in the country.
05:49 It consisted of a square-shaped patty capped with a heaping slab of foie gras and flavored
05:54 with truffle.
05:55 Talk about a fancy offering.
05:56 We've never seen a dish like this sold at a quick-service joint.
06:00 When it was first released, the sandwich put customers back $16 per burger.
06:05 While that number seems steep for a fast-food item, it's a steal compared to the price
06:08 of a comparable dish served at a New York bistro.
06:11 Number 22 - Cap'n Crunch Delights - Taco Bell We thought this crazy menu item could
06:17 only exist in our dreams.
06:19 While some call it a breakfast dish, it's honestly more like a dessert.
06:26 The deep-fried balls consist of a bright pink pastry with a sweet cereal milk icing center
06:32 and an outer coating of cereal bits.
06:34 Not only are they achingly sweet, they're also full of nostalgia.
06:38 It's always fun when food comes in a ball form.
06:40 It's even better when they don't turn our waists into a funny color.
06:43 Number 21 - Nightmare King Burger King
06:46 In terms of the ingredient list, this Frankenburger is a little excessive, sure, but it's not
07:02 nearly as obnoxious as some of the entries we'll be talking about later.
07:05 It consists of a beef patty, a crispy chicken filet, thick-cut bacon, and your usual toppings,
07:11 all sandwiched between two dark green sesame seed buns.
07:14 The real curveball?
07:16 The fact that, according to Burger King, consuming it is clinically proven to increase the likelihood
07:20 of bad dreams.
07:31 Number 20 - Spam & Oreo Burger - McDonald's
07:35 This exclusive members-only menu item caused a lot of confusion when it was released in
07:39 China.
07:40 With two slabs of Spam, Oreo crumbles, and mayo on a sesame bun, it was a strange sandwich
07:45 to say the least.
07:54 And the concoction received mixed reactions from customers.
07:57 Some accused the fast food joint of purposely introducing a bizarre meal in order to grab
08:01 attention.
08:02 Others were simply displeased by the odd combination.
08:05 Yet one loyal fan commented online, saying they found the meal delicious.
08:10 With all that said, we're still not sure what to think of this dish.
08:13 Number 19 - Crown Crust Carnival - Pizza Hut
08:17 Many quick-service pizza joints have tried to put their spin on the crust, but this menu
08:21 item takes the crown.
08:22 Pun intended.
08:31 Released first in Middle Eastern countries, it combined pizza with other fast food classics.
08:37 Two versions of the pie were sold, one with a crust made of mini cheeseburgers, and the
08:41 other made of chicken nuggets.
08:43 Each version came with its own sauce.
08:45 A year later, Pizza Huts in the UK released their own cheeseburger-stuffed crust pie.
08:56 Number 18 - Bacon-Wrapped Deep-Dish Pizza - Little Caesars
08:59 Like we were saying, fast food pizza chains are always innovating.
09:08 Back in 2016, Little Caesars decided to appeal to the nation's obsession with bacon by
09:13 taking oh-so-addictive meat and wrapping it around their deep-dish pizza.
09:16 And just in case that wasn't enough bacon for their customers, the pizza was then garnished
09:21 with crumbled bacon as well.
09:23 It sounds hard to hold, but also like a sure-fire way to get people to eat the crust.
09:35 Number 17 - Burger Dippers - Jack in the Box
09:39 No one ever asked Jack in the Box to reinvent the wheel, but they went ahead and did it
09:43 anyways.
09:44 They're not the first restaurant to deep-fry a burger, but they certainly set themselves
09:47 apart with their approach.
09:49 Crispy fried cheeseburger sticks perfect for dunking.
09:52 Sadly, those who like their burgers with lettuce and tomato are out of luck.
09:56 Regardless, 2019 was the year that, for better or worse, Jack started thinking outside the
10:01 box.
10:03 Number 16 - Doritos Crunchy Crust Pizza - Pizza Hut
10:11 If you're lactose intolerant, you might want to skip ahead past this extremely cheesy
10:15 offering.
10:16 Pizza Hut's Doritos-themed pizza featured a crust that was stuffed with mozzarella cheese
10:20 and covered in pieces of the nacho cheese snack.
10:23 And don't worry, you were free to have whatever toppings you wanted, but the freedom to adorn
10:27 the pie with whatever you desire didn't change the fact that the people were mixed
10:30 about the Doritos themselves.
10:32 The fact that the chips were baked with the pie meant that customers could get a few burnt
10:35 morsels on the crust.
10:37 Additionally, the nacho taste didn't always blend with the pie's other cheeses.
10:41 Overall, it seemed like customers preferred that the Doritos stay in a bag away from their
10:45 pizza.
10:50 Number 15 - Sweet and Crunchy Tenders - Popeyes
10:53 That doesn't sound so weird.
10:55 Wait, never mind.
10:59 Our brains auto-corrected to "sweet and sour."
11:02 And these aren't just tenders in a sweetened batter.
11:04 They're literally cookie-crusted.
11:06 If your chicken tenders are sweet and there's no second flavor to balance that out, then
11:10 we're not sure what to do with that information.
11:12 Bold move, Popeyes.
11:13 According to Delish, kids loved them.
11:16 Shocking.
11:17 Oh, they also did cookie dough tenders.
11:19 Did you eat all of my samples?
11:21 Mom?
11:22 Yes, you did.
11:25 I did not.
11:26 You're eating them right now.
11:28 Am I?
11:29 Number 14 - Stuffed Cheese It Pizza - Pizza Hut
11:32 You didn't ask for it, but boy, are you gonna want it.
11:38 Guess who?
11:39 Pizza Hut has apparently made it their mandate to establish themselves as the franchise most
11:43 committed to pushing the boundaries of good taste.
11:45 In 2019, they boldly went where no pizza chain has gone before by partnering up with Kellogg
11:51 to make giant cheese-stuffed Cheez-Its, which are served with marinara sauce for dipping.
11:55 Now, in terms of branding, they are spot on.
11:58 This looks like a box of Cheez-Its, except it's a pizza.
12:01 It smells like a baked Cheez-It.
12:02 It sure is something, and there's no mistaking that distinct Cheez-It taste.
12:07 But it ain't pizza.
12:09 Number 13 - The Double Down - KFC
12:12 After years of eating the same meals, John was encouraged to try the new Double Down
12:16 from KFC.
12:17 Since this controversial menu item was initially announced around April Fool's Day, people
12:21 thought the sandwich was a joke.
12:23 After all, who would buy a sandwich where chicken is served as buns to enclose bacon,
12:27 sauces, and cheese?
12:28 But KFC shocked the world by going through with this product.
12:32 Admittedly, the Double Down did have its fans and sold over 10 million sandwiches.
12:36 However, those sales weren't enough to convince KFC to keep it as a permanent menu item.
12:41 The sandwich would go on to inspire wilder variations, such as a Double Dog sandwich
12:45 that literally doubled down on the meat.
12:47 Not to be outdone, the zany original has made several returns, including a surprising comeback
12:52 in March 2023.
12:57 Number 12 - Bacon Sundae - Burger King
13:08 Sweet and savory, when properly introduced to one another, can make for a truly divine
13:12 combination.
13:13 Mishandle the marriage, however, and the results can prove downright inedible.
13:17 For example, the Bacon Shake from Jack in the Box garnered harsh reviews upon release
13:21 in 2012.
13:22 Burger King's Bacon Sundae seemingly fared a bit better, winning itself some devoted
13:26 followers, but they still were few and far between.
13:29 The finished product, a sundae with a strip of bacon shoved into it and more crumbled
13:33 on top, admittedly lacked finesse.
13:36 Number 11 - Chizza - KFC
13:42 The Colonel tried to shake up yet another traditional food recipe by putting a new spin
13:46 on pizza.
13:47 Their revolutionary creation dared to put toppings you would traditionally find on a
13:51 Hawaiian slice on top of a cut of chicken.
13:54 For some consumers, the idea of basing this concept on one of the most controversial pizza
13:58 orders was already too much, but even those who don't mind Hawaiian pies had an issue
14:02 with this.
14:03 Not only did it fail to look as appetizing as the ads, but the sauce was reportedly too
14:07 sweet and the ham topping didn't make an impression.
14:10 Despite all odds, this product got a second chance in 2023, but we doubt it will be replacing
14:15 normal pizza orders anytime soon.
14:20 Number 10 - Pumpkin Spice French Fries - McDonald's
14:24 The rule seems to be that if it can be eaten or drunk, it's only a matter of time until
14:39 someone comes up with a pumpkin spice version.
14:42 We thought french fries were safe, but oh how wrong we were.
14:46 The good folks at McDonald's Japan decided to celebrate the Halloween season by offering
14:50 dueling orange and black pumpkin spice sauces to go with fries.
14:53 We're not sure who asked for them, but there you have it.
15:06 Number 9 - Cheetos Sandwich - KFC
15:20 Maybe KFC felt bad for leaving North America out of the cheese of fun.
15:24 In 2019, the fast food giant unveiled their next weird and wild fast food creation in
15:29 Manhattan's East Village.
15:31 It consisted of a crispy chicken filet loaded with Cheetos sauce and a handful of Cheetos.
15:36 Of course we need to mention that Taco Bell did it first with their Cheetos stuffed quesadilla
15:40 a few years earlier.
15:42 We don't know if that's something to brag about though.
15:45 Number 8 - Pickle Juice Slush - Sonic
15:56 There's nothing quite like a refreshing slushy on a hot day.
15:59 But if you're tired of traditional fruity flavors, get in a time machine, go back to
16:02 either 2018 or 2022 and get a pickle slush.
16:06 As the name suggests, this icy drink is infused with sweet and salty flavors.
16:10 The result is a drink that has been reported as a bit sweet and every bit as tart as the
16:14 average pickle.
16:15 As strange as it sounds, the masses flock to devour the slushy during its limited opening
16:20 windows.
16:21 The news of its popularity probably won't sway those who aren't big pickle fans.
16:25 But those who dreamed of having this fruit in icy form, this bright green drink should
16:34 fulfill their needs.
16:36 Number 7 - Fritos Chili Pizza - Papa John's
16:40 To recreate the feeling of having a heaping pile of chili in pizza form, this restaurant
16:44 chain got beef, sauces, tomatoes and onions.
16:53 And for some added razzle-dazzle, Fritos were piled high on top after it was cooked.
16:57 This bold combination attracted few fans and a lot of detractors who thought the sauce
17:02 lacked kick.
17:03 However, all would universally agree that the pizza had a major design flaw.
17:07 If the Fritos that topped this pie didn't get soggy on the way to the customer, they
17:10 would definitely get gross overnight.
17:12 This meant customers had no choice but to consume the whole thing in one sitting or
17:16 remove the Fritos.
17:18 The most surprising part of this chili pie is that its obvious flaw was overlooked.
17:26 Number 6 - Buffalo Latte - Tim Hortons
17:30 While there are many kinds of lattes out in the world, a famous Canadian chain decided
17:34 to break new ground with a revolutionary new idea.
17:37 Tim Hortons took a standard blend of milk, mocha and espresso and decided to add some
17:41 buffalo seasoning to the top.
17:46 This drink was meant to be an homage to the New York City town where the famous spicy
17:50 sauce was created, but it seems like Tim Hortons would have been better off with a different
17:54 tribute.
17:55 For those who have tried it, the latte and buffalo elements were apparently okay on their
17:58 own but very lackluster together.
18:00 It was probably for the best that this novelty tribute didn't get further than Buffalo,
18:04 New York.
18:11 Number 5 - Chicken Flavored Chocolate Truffles - KFC
18:15 As a gift for mom, the chain is giving out a Colonel Sanders romance novella.
18:19 It's 96 pages and is titled "Tender Wings of Desire".
18:24 You think KFC is pushing boundaries of fast food in America?
18:27 You should see the sort of madness that they're experimenting with in New Zealand.
18:31 Chocolate truffles are a popular treat and would make for a welcome addition to any dessert
18:35 menu, but chicken flavored truffles are a serious curveball.
18:39 Why KFC thought this was the perfect treat for Mother's Day 2017, we're not sure.
18:45 As for the truffles, they were only distributed to a few dozen lucky customers via online
18:49 lottery.
18:50 Number 4 - Firecracker Burrito - Taco Bell
18:54 When this famous food chain wanted to spice up its ordinary burrito offerings, they decided
18:58 to incorporate pop rocks.
19:06 Dubbed "Cayenne Popping Crystals" by the food chain, these sweet and hot garnishes
19:10 were meant to be poured onto a burrito.
19:13 Consumers could simultaneously feel the novel crackle of cayenne in their mouth while consuming
19:17 a familiar Taco Bell meal.
19:19 If you could look past the bizarre setup to create this meal, there was still an issue.
19:23 Apparently, adding too many cayenne popping crystals made the entire burrito taste too
19:27 sweet to enjoy.
19:30 But it seemed like customers didn't want to add any in the end.
19:39 The pop rocks have been kept away from their burritos in the years since the item was announced.
19:43 Number 3 - T-Rex Burger - Wendy's
19:53 This hulking menu item might be more intimidating than the meteor that wiped out the dinosaurs.
19:58 The T-Rex Burger consists of 9 beef patties, 9 slices of cheese, and an utter disregard
20:03 for your arteries.
20:04 It was originally available at a single Wendy's location in Canada.
20:08 However, it was officially removed once corporate officials got wind of the sandwich.
20:12 Maybe that's because it had an astounding 3,000 calories, or it could be because no
20:16 human alive could bite into the entirety of the T-Rex Burger's massive size without
20:20 unhinging their jaw.
20:22 Fittingly, the only reason this exists is because of a fake joke advertisement printed
20:26 in a magazine.
20:27 We firmly believe that this sandwich should have remained as a work of fiction.
20:37 Number 2 - Waffle Taco - Taco Bell
20:51 Claiming the silver medal for the craziest fast food menu item of the decade is Taco
20:55 Bell.
20:56 A company that's no stranger to wacky limited time offerings.
20:59 With this however, they really pushed the limits of good taste.
21:04 For starters, this thing can hardly be called a taco.
21:06 It's a breakfast sausage patty covered in scrambled eggs and shredded cheese folded
21:11 together in a waffle.
21:12 We're all for breakfast tacos, but this is madness.
21:15 Sadly, all good things must come to an end.
21:18 In 2015, it was replaced by a biscuit taco.
21:42 Number 1 - Donut Sandwich - KFC
21:52 Decades after chicken and waffles became a popular menu item, KFC got sweet and savory
21:57 with its own sandwich.
21:58 Chefs took a piece of their classic chicken and stuck it between two fully glazed donuts.
22:03 This allowed customers to experience the savory entree with all the icing they'd expect
22:07 from the sugary treats.
22:08 If that wasn't enough, another variation of this item was released in Australia.
22:12 It's dubbed the Donut Zinger Burger.
22:14 This overindulgent sandwich feels like a cross-section of the worst fast food impulses.
22:18 It's a combination of multiple junk foods, vigorously unhealthy, and brings two different
22:23 taste sensations together.
22:25 Whether it's consumed for breakfast, dinner, or late at night, this donut sandwich will
22:29 always be outrageous.
22:37 Which of these outrageous items do you stan?
22:40 Let us know in the comments!
