00:00 We're here with Victoria Monet and she's being roasted by her squad off camera right now.
00:05 I'm like, what do y'all want to pick?
00:07 Cause they're looking at me like something's wrong.
00:09 You look perfect. You sound perfect. You are perfect.
00:11 Well nobody can tell you nothing cause you're our rising star here tonight.
00:15 How does that feel?
00:16 I feel really good. I'm so excited.
00:19 But I'm honestly really even more excited to see all the other women.
00:22 And people get their flowers. I really love when women are there to receive their flowers.
00:28 And I get to see some amazing performances tonight.
00:32 And Tracee Ellis Ross. I'm a huge fan. So I'm just excited.
00:36 Speaking of performances, you will be performing.
00:40 Yes I will.
00:41 Are you nervous, excited, anything to tease?
00:43 I'm trying not to get nervous. I usually get nervous like right before.
00:48 But it should be fun. I'm working with a whole team of female dancers.
00:53 So I'm excited to bring them to the stage for this number.
00:57 It's gonna be a good time.
00:58 Is it gonna get me out of my seat?
01:00 Yes.
01:01 Is the booty gonna pop?
01:02 Yes.
01:03 Yes! Pop hard!
01:04 Even when you think it's not popping, it's popping.
01:06 It's popping! That's what's up!
01:08 Of course you are no stranger to understanding how behind the scenes is just as important
01:13 as in front of the scenes when it comes to music.
01:16 A songwriter first and foremost.
01:18 How has it been transitioning from more the songwriter role to both songwriter and front of camera,
01:24 front of performer I would say?
01:26 How I like to think of it is my job has always been the same.
01:30 I've always been an artist. I've always been a songwriter.
01:33 But someone just changed the lighting around.
01:35 Before the light was shining on my songwriting skills and now it's shining on my artistry.
01:39 And so I'm just happy to be here.
01:41 I'm so curious to know, you went from songwriting as you mentioned to now you're performing.
01:46 How is it different writing songs for other people versus writing songs for yourself?
01:50 Really the goal is the same.
01:51 It's always just to put your best foot forward to make the best musical masterpiece
01:57 that you want to ride home to in the car.
02:00 So in that way it's not that much different.
02:02 But for me personally I guess I just have to think a little bit less because it's my story
02:08 versus trying to help tell someone else's.
02:12 So maybe just a little bit more creative control in that sense.
02:15 But both of them you really put your best foot forward and you want to make the best project
02:19 where everybody walks out of the room happy and proud.
02:22 The artist feels great. You feel great.
02:25 Producers feel great. Everybody loves it.
02:27 We feel great. You feel great. We cannot wait to see you perform.
02:30 And no one deserves the honor more.
02:32 Thank you so much for being here Victoria.
02:34 Congratulations.
02:35 Have a great night.
02:36 - Have a great night, enjoy the night.
