00:00 The plane of Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry remains grounded after being rejected
00:05 entry to the Dominican Republic. So Henry has holed up in his Puerto Rican hotel
00:11 after a trip to Kenya securing a deal for 1,000 police officers to restore security.
00:17 Members of the local Haitian community say his actions are not enough.
00:22 "We're here to demand the resignation of the prime minister so that elections can be held
00:28 and the country can return to normal." In Haiti's capital, streets are desolate
00:34 as people avoid attacks from roving gangs. More than 15,000 people have fled the worst-hit parts
00:40 in recent days as police struggle to regain control of territory.
00:44 The gangs have also recently freed more than 4,000 inmates, adding to the mayhem.
00:54 "There is not a single government official who can appeal to the gangs or reassure the population
01:00 about what's going on. It's a chaotic situation."
01:04 The UN Security Council held an emergency meeting on Wednesday
01:11 after its human rights chief called for intervention.
01:14 "I call once again for the urgent deployment with no further delay of the multinational
01:20 security support mission in Haiti to support the national police and bring security to the Haitian
01:27 people. There is no realistic alternative available to protect lives. We are simply running out of
01:35 time." The United States said it has no intention of sending troops into Haiti, instead calling on
01:41 Henri to find a political solution. The influential gang leader Jimmy Cherizier, known as Barbecue,
01:49 wants Henri to step down, threatening civil war and genocide if he refuses.
