00:00 The aviation giant Boeing has been under intense scrutiny this year following the Alaska Airlines
00:05 incident in January.
00:07 On the 5th January a door of a Boeing 737 Max 9 plane blew out shortly after takeoff.
00:14 The Federal Aviation Administration quickly ordered the grounding of this fleet of aircraft
00:18 and it prompted a safety crackdown.
00:21 The incident in January was not the first of its kind associated with Boeing aircraft.
00:26 A Boeing Max 8 jet operated by Lion Air crashed in Indonesia in 2018 and an Ethiopian Airlines
00:33 Max 8 crashed in 2019.
00:35 At the end of January a nose wheel fell off a Boeing 757 Delta Airlines flight and a United
00:42 Airlines Boeing 737 flight was forced to divert due to a cracked windshield.
00:47 In February both Alaska Airlines and United Airlines announced that their Boeing 737 Max
00:52 9 aircraft will now return to service, despite a former quality manager at Boeing warning
00:59 that the planes are back up in the air too soon.
01:02 John Barnett said he is concerned as jobs are not being completed properly.
01:07 Boeing has also been accused of being happy to rely on cheap materials from its subcontractor
01:12 Spirit Aerosystems.
01:13 Lion Air currently operates Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft and in May last year it announced
01:19 it had ordered 300 new Boeing 737 Max 10 aircraft for delivery between 2027 to 2033.
01:27 However, Lion Air is now facing delays to the delivery of Boeing aircraft and has warned
01:33 holidaymakers that they could face up to 10% more expensive flight tickets this summer
01:39 due to the delay.
01:40 It will also affect flights this summer.
01:43 Lion Air has said it has already implemented scheduled cuts at Dublin, Milan, Marpenza,
01:48 Walsall, Modern and four Portuguese airports.
01:52 In March, three Alaska Airlines passengers who survived the mid-air blowout announced
01:56 they are suing Boeing for $1 billion.
02:00 The lawsuit claims that they suffered severe mental, emotional and psychological injuries,
02:05 including post-traumatic stress and physical injuries.
02:09 The law firm wrote that the case seeks to hold Boeing accountable for its negligence,
02:13 which had caused extreme panic, fear and post-traumatic stress.
