00:03 Davis, it feels like they restructured their entire team yesterday.
00:07 You take a look at what they did, releasing Tre'Davious White, who by the way,
00:11 a trajectory for him just a few short years ago,
00:14 maybe to be the best overall corner in the NFL.
00:16 In ACL, followed by an Achilles, he gets released.
00:20 Jordan Poirier, one of the better safeties in football, also released here.
00:23 Mitch Morse and Naeem Hines, you take a look at the adjusted contracts,
00:27 which included Von Miller and Rasul Douglas.
00:29 You also re-signed a few players,
00:31 which includes bringing Mitchell Trubisky back as the backup quarterback.
00:35 Talk to me about what you saw from the bills yesterday.
00:38 It looks like they're getting ready for a roster overhaul here in 2024.
00:43 >> I mean, the bills kind of extended themselves last season.
00:47 They did everything they could the last two years to get the best product on
00:50 the field.
00:51 It is also a great example of why NFL teams prefer to build through the draft,
00:57 as opposed to building through free agency.
00:58 Because all of those guys that we just mentioned, they're really good bills,
01:02 players, starters on offense, starters on defense.
01:06 Those were not guys that they drafted.
01:08 I believe they drafted Tre'Davious White, but
01:09 the rest of them were guys that they had acquired in free agency.
01:14 And just the way the NFL works, you're gonna be paying a little bit more against
01:19 the cap for free agent contracts than guys you drafted, or
01:21 even guys that are on your team that you extended.
01:25 As it stands right now, Thursday morning, March 7th,
01:29 the bills have, I believe, less than the 51-man roster under contract,
01:35 and they are $9 million over the cap.
01:38 Now, everyone will be cap compliant.
01:40 You cannot feel the team without being cap compliant, but
01:43 it is gonna force the Buffalo Bills into some difficult decisions.
01:47 The big issue for them, and this is the same issue that teams that run into,
01:52 the Saints, obviously, are the best example, is it's always okay
01:56 to go over the cap to sign larger contracts for guys who are good.
02:01 It basically doesn't matter as long as you are paying players who are on the field,
02:05 who are contributing, where you really run into problems, and
02:08 the Saints have really found this out.
02:10 And they're kind of the most illustrative example is,
02:14 it's no good when you're paying a huge bunch of your cap to guys who just
02:17 straight up cannot play.
02:20 So, I mean, the Saints are still paying Drew Brees money,
02:23 they are paying Michael Thomas money.
02:25 But the issue for the Bills is they're paying a lot of money to Von Miller,
02:30 they're paying a lot of money to Matt Milano.
02:32 They're actually paying more money than you would think to Dawson Knox.
02:36 It's just one of those weird situations where they're paying a lot of money for,
02:41 I mean, you could draft a fifth round guy out of Old Dominion and
02:44 he would do the same thing for this team that Dawson Knox is doing.
02:47 So it might be a little bit of pain for the Buffalo Bills in 2024.
