00:05 Hi guys, my name is Brendan Moore and I'm up for nomination for the Sporting Achievement Individual category.
00:11 I play tennis, I'm the head coach and director of the Moore Tennis Academy
00:15 and I also still compete these days on the Masters Tour.
00:19 I found tennis when I was roughly about 15 years of age.
00:23 I started playing then, I played professionally for 9 to 10 years
00:28 and then decided to go into coaching as well as still playing but not quite pursuing it as professionally.
00:35 One of my most recent achievements was I travelled to Turkey in March this year.
00:39 I competed in the Masters ITF World Championships.
00:43 I represented Australia in the teams events and in the individual championships I managed to walk away with the gold medal
00:50 which I later found out was an achievement that an Australian tennis player in the Masters Tour hadn't done for 27 years.
00:56 I'm actually heading down to Melbourne which I've been nominated for the John Newcomb medal
01:00 which is through Tennis Australia for that achievement of winning the World Championships.
01:05 A very big part of what I do is passing on knowledge and watching the kids you're working with improve.
01:11 To me and I guess to any coach that's extremely important and it's very rewarding.
01:15 To be nominated for the Australia Day Award is overwhelming, it's great, it's exciting.
01:21 It's something that I really never pictured myself being in that position.
01:25 So once I was told of my nomination I was quite excited and really looking forward to it.
