00:00 It is indeed our pleasure from the Department of Foreign Affairs to brief you today on the
00:06 upcoming visit of the President to Germany and to Czech Republic.
00:12 President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. and First Lady Maria Luise Araneta Marcos, upon the
00:19 invitation of the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the Czech President Peter Pavel, will
00:26 undertake a working visit to Germany on 12 to 13 March 2024 and a state visit to the
00:36 Czech Republic on 14 to 15 March 2024.
00:43 The President will meet with the head of state and heads of government in Germany and the
00:49 Czech Republic.
00:50 He will be welcomed by the German Chancellor, as I said, Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and by
00:59 the Czech President Peter Pavel, and the Prime Minister Peter Piala, who visited the Philippines
01:07 last year.
01:09 The President will also meet with the heads of the Czech Republic, with the other high
01:17 officials of the Czech Republic, if I may correct myself, this is the heads of the Czech
01:23 Parliament, the Senate President Miloš Vistřicil and the President of the Chamber of Deputies
01:32 Markéta Pekarová-Adamová, or in short, the Speaker.
01:36 The President's trip to the two Central European countries follows the visit to Manila of Czech
01:43 Prime Minister Peter Piala in April 2023 and the German Federal Foreign Minister Annalena
01:50 Baerbock in January 2024.
01:54 And this endeavor seeks to strengthen bilateral relations and foster increased cooperation
02:02 with the two countries.
02:05 During the President's time in Germany and the Czech Republic, the President will focus
02:11 on bolstering trade and investment opportunities in the Philippines, inviting German and Czech
02:18 companies to increase their presence in the country.
02:24 The President will also attend business forums in both countries, participated in by prominent
02:32 business leaders.
02:33 This also stems from the fact that these are countries which are like-minded.
02:38 We share values for democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, including in the promotion
02:44 of an open, inclusive, international rules-based order.
02:51 Yes, the President will have an exchange on how both could work together in maintaining
03:01 an international rules-based order.
03:04 And if some of you may have noticed in the recent incident in the West Philippine Sea,
03:14 the German ambassador and the Czech ambassador issued a statement of support for the Philippines
03:22 and their concerning what's happening in the area.
03:24 Thank you.
03:34 [END]
