00:00 Now that Avatar the Last Airbender is out on Netflix, what has the fan response been like for you?
00:05 I'd say it's definitely been a mixed bag, but I think for those that have been able to appreciate it for what it is, they've been enjoying it for the most part.
00:14 We got a lot of good nods to the original animation while being able to expand on scenes that we might not have been able to see in the animated series.
00:22 So I think it's been pretty good so far, considering also that there's been a season 2 and season 3 renewal.
00:29 How did you react to that news of the renewal? It just came out the other day.
00:32 So Daniel Dae Kim, who plays Ozai, he played a prank on us saying that they wouldn't announce season 2, but they were going to announce season 2 and 3.
00:41 So it was a big moment because as soon as the show had come out, there was a big weight off of our chest, but we still in the back of our minds were thinking about what's to come next after this.
00:53 Just because season 2 and 3 haven't been adapted yet, so we're just more than excited and more than grateful that we get to bring that to life.
01:02 We're here toasting Oscar nominees tonight. When it comes to Best Picture, which movie are you rooting for?
01:08 Oh man. I really liked Oppenheimer. I did, I did. I thought Robert Downey Jr. was phenomenal in that, so I'm hoping he wins.
01:22 So in the Barbie vs. Oppenheimer debate, do you choose Oppenheimer?
01:25 I'm not taking sides, I'm not taking sides.
01:28 And what do you have coming up this year that you're excited about, or is it just getting back to filming Avatar now that you've gotten the renewal?
01:35 Yeah, I mean I'm definitely going to get back to doing my homework, watching the animated series, doing some character work, but I'm excited more than anything just to have some hair in the future seasons.
01:46 What sort of prep did you do before taking on the role for season 1?
01:50 Just a lot of research, a lot of character work, journaling, a lot of the basic things, but I think the biggest part was just knowing that it was my responsibility.
01:59 I think being a lead in a series is a lot different than all of my past work, so knowing that there was a big fandom not only supporting but also probably going to critique me, I made sure that I knew every single thing about Zuko and that I would find a way to make him my own.
02:17 own.
