EU chief hopes maritime aid route from Cyprus to Gaza will open Sunday

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says a maritime corridor between Cyprus and Gaza will open "hopefully this Sunday", establishing a route for aid deliveries into the war-torn territory.

00:20 And that is why today the Republic of Cyprus, the European Commission, the United Arab Emirates
00:29 and the United States, of course supported by other critical partners, announced our
00:35 intent to open the maritime corridor to deliver much needed additional amounts of humanitarian
00:43 assistance by sea.
00:45 We are now very close to the opening of the corridor, hopefully this Saturday, this Sunday.
00:51 And I'm very glad to see that an initial pilot operation will be launched today.
