00:00 I mean, she's a good girl.
00:02 She also wants to take a look back on my career.
00:04 Millie Bobby Brown, let's go.
00:06 Scene selection.
00:07 - Hello everyone, I'm Millie Bobby Brown
00:09 and I'm gonna be taking a look back
00:11 on some of my scenes during my career thus far.
00:15 So let's do it.
00:15 (upbeat music)
00:18 (upbeat music)
00:21 (screaming)
00:40 - She broke my arm, my arm.
00:42 - Go, go.
00:46 - Oh, this is the, I don't even remember it.
00:49 I never really watched season one.
00:51 I didn't really have time.
00:52 The second it came out, you know,
00:54 we just went on press tours and interviews
00:56 and now we're able to kind of relish in it more
00:58 and really enjoy the show.
00:59 It's so cloudy, the memories.
01:02 You don't really remember like the specifics of everything.
01:04 So I was just like, I hope this works.
01:08 Like I couldn't be more lame.
01:10 Like I did not think this would be big at all.
01:15 And I actually still didn't.
01:16 Like after like we performed at the Emmys
01:18 and went on Ellen, I was just like,
01:20 it's gonna go up and it's gonna go down.
01:22 Like, you know, I didn't know.
01:24 And then I was just like, oh, I've got up
01:25 and I'm like staying consistent
01:27 and I'm able to continue doing really great things.
01:29 But like I'm 10, so immediately I'm like,
01:31 I just want a puppy and my hair to grow back.
01:33 You know, that's really all that I was thinking.
01:36 - Let's go.
01:37 - Go.
01:37 - Yeah, that's right.
01:38 You better run.
01:40 She's our friend and she's crazy.
01:43 - I love that line.
01:44 That is my favorite line.
01:45 Also, I think my friends actually say this about me.
01:48 They're like, she's our friend and she's crazy.
01:50 Gaten's performance in this makes me so happy.
01:53 Oh, the energy he brought,
01:54 it was just like magnetic in the screen.
01:57 Oh, the void, the most depressing place ever.
02:04 I'm always alone.
02:05 I'm always having to be emotional and scared.
02:07 I'm in water, my feet are pruney, I'm hungry.
02:11 It's just, it's my least favorite set ever.
02:13 - I'm sorry.
02:16 - Sorry?
02:17 What are you sorry for?
02:18 - The gate.
02:20 - Girl, she needs braces.
02:24 You see those teeth?
02:25 - I opened it.
02:26 - I think this is probably the most I spoke
02:28 in the whole of season one.
02:30 I remember being like, I have lines today.
02:31 Like, this is so fun.
02:32 And I remember how cold it was.
02:34 And I remember actually laying on that gravel.
02:36 I remember I was studying Mesopotamia
02:39 and the Fertile Crescent
02:41 and all the boys were a few grades older than me,
02:43 but they were like, we know about Mesopotamia.
02:45 And I was like, okay, I hate myself.
02:46 But yeah, I remember having to go back into school
02:48 and doing like four hours of school
02:50 in between these really emotional scenes.
02:52 So we had two jobs.
02:53 This is such an iconic scene
03:01 because you start to go, oh, Mike and Eleven.
03:03 Like, they might be falling in love.
03:05 And there's Dustin, you know?
03:06 It's just like very, very cute,
03:08 the friendship that they have.
03:10 And I think that this is the beginning
03:11 of the wonderful friendship between the boys and Eleven.
03:14 This was exceptionally cold water.
03:31 And he didn't really touch me.
03:33 Like, he had his hand on my back,
03:35 but I did all the control.
03:36 Camera was below, which was really exciting.
03:39 And I watched playback every single time
03:41 to see what else I could do.
03:42 I really wanted to feel like the audience was underwater
03:45 and like trying to catch their breath too.
03:47 It was the first ever water scene I've ever done like that.
03:50 It was really cool.
03:51 And it was winter in London.
03:52 So it was very, very cold.
03:55 - I will ask you this only once.
03:58 Where is the Marquis?
04:00 - Now, who would that be?
04:02 - Fun fact, I didn't know my lines.
04:05 I was, this is something I'm like,
04:08 I never come into set knowing my lines.
04:10 I learn them on the day so that I'm instinctual
04:12 and that whatever comes out, comes out.
04:13 So for this scene, I am, I purposefully didn't know my lines
04:18 so that whatever came out was really stuttery,
04:20 you know, and cluttered and scared.
04:22 And that's what I liked about this scene
04:24 is that she truly was searching
04:25 for every single word that came out
04:27 because she was begging for him to stop.
04:28 - Well, you've seen my face now.
04:31 - No, your face is totally unmemorable.
04:34 - I love that line.
04:35 That made me start,
04:36 but it's also so hard to get it all out
04:38 before he's about to dunk you in water again.
04:40 And I probably inhaled half the water by this point.
04:42 [dramatic music]
04:45 So this part of the scene,
04:56 it took me two months to learn before production.
04:58 It was really difficult.
04:59 I practiced so much and learned all of the skills
05:03 so that on the day when I got there,
05:05 I was able to just do a dance routine.
05:07 [dramatic music]
05:10 Helena, she is so hilarious.
05:19 You cannot intentionally go in with anger
05:21 or aggression with her because she is so funny.
05:24 I was using real force with her
05:26 and one take I just pushed her over.
05:28 She just fell right on her butt and it was hilarious.
05:32 And we were both just cracking up.
05:34 She is one of the most talented down to earth
05:37 and funny actors I've ever worked with.
05:40 And just like her energy, it lights the whole room up.
05:43 I love this part.
05:48 This part's my favorite.
05:49 This actually wasn't even scripted.
05:51 The director just basically told me to provoke him,
05:55 you know, poke at him, make him fight you more.
05:57 And I was like, how do I do that?
05:59 And so this is what I do.
06:00 [Helena screams]
06:01 [dramatic music]
06:07 I actually love that her reactions are like,
06:09 whoa, that worked.
06:10 You know, it's never like confidence.
06:12 It's more like, oh my, I'm smart.
06:14 Like that worked.
06:15 That actually landed and he's hot, yay.
06:18 I love that about Enola.
06:19 Like you're learning with her as she goes along.
06:22 [upbeat music]
06:24 - The ceremony is now complete.
06:29 You may make your return.
06:35 - This is a scene right before she gets
06:37 thrown into the cave.
06:38 They're doing their strange family ritual
06:40 that she doesn't really know why they're doing.
06:43 But she is very scared, but she's also maybe falling in love
06:47 and she's starting to trust him.
06:49 - I'm supposed to carry you back.
06:52 - I'm fine with walking, really.
06:54 Poor Nick had to hold me and nine layers of dress,
07:04 but for 12 hours within the day.
07:06 So it's crazy.
07:07 Yeah, he did very well.
07:08 Seriously, I was wearing everything
07:10 that you see me dressed up in in the film,
07:12 I am actually wearing.
07:13 So there was a lot to hold.
07:16 - Floria would love this part.
07:18 - Close your eyes.
07:21 I've got you.
07:23 - Working with Robin was unbelievable
07:29 to be able to work with such a seasoned actor.
07:32 It was a dream come true.
07:34 And she brought so much to every scene,
07:36 despite maybe it not being her closeup
07:38 and being behind camera,
07:39 like she continuously was there for me.
07:42 She brought a certain energy that she made me bring more
07:45 every single day.
07:46 The best kind of actor to work with.
07:48 I feel very gravitated towards strong female leads,
08:02 but just being able to executive produce this,
08:04 it meant the world
08:05 because I was able to be behind the camera,
08:07 have a say in where the plot story casting goes.
08:11 It was really nice.
08:13 And I was able to kind of live also
08:14 my female producer lead role.
08:17 - I'm sorry.
08:19 - I was never thrown.
08:29 He would go to throw me.
08:31 I would pull my face and then we would cut.
08:34 And then basically they put me on a plank of wood
08:37 and I just fell backwards up and down on a plank of wood
08:40 while they put me up and down.
08:42 But actually that day I was on the plank of wood,
08:43 I had the flu.
08:44 So I like basically just couldn't breathe.
08:46 I was just like,
08:47 and I had to mime because I had lost my voice.
08:49 So I had to mime my scream and then in ADR,
08:52 just scream away.
08:54 (upbeat music)
08:56 - Dr. Owen.
09:06 Yes.
09:07 The remake.
09:08 What even is that look?
09:10 I also think it was the first time I ever worked with a fan.
09:14 Fans blowing in my face.
09:15 I was like, I can't see.
09:17 Okay.
09:18 Carry on.
09:20 Grooving.
09:21 - I actually spent the whole episode on the phone.
09:29 He basically teaches me how to go through
09:32 where I have to put a straw in her throat,
09:34 the whole thing.
09:34 So exciting.
09:36 I obviously didn't really do it.
09:37 I was just doing ADR the whole time.
09:39 And then this is the scene
09:40 where they actually get to see each other.
09:42 - My phone died,
09:43 but I kept singing till it came just like you said.
09:46 - She was about to take off with those dumbboots.
09:49 - Yep.
09:50 That was a moment in time.
09:52 - You did great.
09:53 You were perfect.
09:55 Okay.
09:58 - I have no words.
09:59 That's better than Stranger Things.
10:01 That's better than all the things.
10:03 That right there is what you call a performance.
10:07 It's like going to an acting school.
10:10 Unfortunately, mine was just televised
10:12 for the whole world to see,
10:13 but that was like my practice.
10:15 I remember watching it back like with my whole family
10:17 when it went on TV and we're all freaking out.
10:21 And my dad was like,
10:22 "You are amazing."
10:23 And my mom was like,
10:23 "This is amazing."
10:24 And I was like,
10:25 "Yeah, I'm so good."
10:27 [upbeat music]
10:29 Ghidorah, Ghidorah.
10:41 My hair is insane in this,
10:42 but I love this so much.
10:46 What was so cool
10:47 is that the set wasn't actually moving.
10:49 It's the cameras moving.
10:50 And right in front of me is a whole green screen.
10:52 So I just have to pretend that Ghidorah is coming.
10:55 All of it's real fire.
10:56 You know, all of it around me,
10:58 the debris, everything is around me.
11:00 I had an amazing first idea that had a voice of God
11:03 that would just be like,
11:04 "And Ghidorah's coming.
11:06 "And he's gonna kill you.
11:08 "And you."
11:09 And I would just,
11:09 I would just basically just,
11:11 he would just narrate what I did,
11:12 which was amazing.
11:13 [dramatic music]
11:17 [screaming]
11:19 She cannot help herself but scream.
11:26 Like, "Are we okay?"
11:27 This was also instinctual, not scripted.
11:29 Director kept it.
11:30 It's really nice to see that
11:32 when that comes to fruition.
11:34 [upbeat music]
11:37 [dramatic music]
11:43 [dramatic music]
11:46 My 17th birthday, the day I filmed this.
11:56 So it was very positive, lovely,
11:59 really light day emotionally.
12:01 He's killed everyone and he's prepared to kill me,
12:04 but I actually throw him into the rift.
12:07 So actually 11 created the upside.
12:10 I still need to get this all clarified.
12:12 - How do you cry for them, 11?
12:14 After everything they did to you.
12:19 - This was a young girl who played me.
12:24 She looked actually very much like me.
12:26 She also shaved her hair off.
12:28 I directed her, which was very exciting,
12:30 my directorial debut.
12:32 And it was really exciting
12:35 because I just wanted to have more of a say
12:37 in how she would move because I remember that.
12:40 And I remember exactly how that was.
12:42 And then basically sat in an egg for three days
12:46 and we went through every single scene
12:48 and I moved my face the way that I'd want her face to look.
12:52 When she would scream, I would scream
12:54 just so she could feel the intensity of the scene
12:57 and that she could feel like somebody
12:59 she was acting against, right?
13:01 'Cause she's also having to look at a green tennis ball.
13:05 I always used to clench my fists when I was using my powers.
13:08 So showing her things like that,
13:11 showing her how to use her face,
13:13 her body stance, her strength.
13:16 I needed to feel like she was straining
13:18 because her power is so, it's bigger than her.
13:21 And she's like this little dinky, beautiful little girl.
13:24 And so I was just like,
13:25 we need to channel our inner dragon.
13:27 [upbeat music]
13:30 - Plancy!
13:34 Phone home!
13:35 [car door opening]
13:39 Hurry up!
13:40 - Hey, that's my bike!
13:42 - So I went to an audition for "Older Family"
13:46 with like 40 other girls in the room and their moms
13:50 and nobody brought their dad, but my dad took me everywhere.
13:53 So my dad was the only one sat in the room
13:55 like trying to keep his head down.
13:57 And I was like, I'm not gonna get it.
13:58 And I got it.
13:59 And I walked out, my dad was like, really?
14:00 I was like, yeah, I think so.
14:02 - Whoa!
14:03 Okay, I need to borrow this, okay?
14:04 Here, just, all right, okay?
14:07 I promise to bring it back, all right?
14:08 - No, that's what you said about my mom's humidifier!
14:11 - Aw, we love that.
14:13 We stand that, Millie.
14:14 That's very cute.
14:16 I was also like, humidifier!
14:18 That's such a hard word to say in an American accent.
14:20 But I was very good at my American accent back then.
14:21 I was just like fluid 'cause I lived here for so long,
14:24 but that was very fun.
14:26 And we were filming in Beverly Hills,
14:27 so I felt very bougie.
14:28 My whole childhood is captured
14:30 and I'm able to look back on it.
14:31 And like one day maybe my kids
14:33 are gonna be able to look at that.
14:34 And also being able to have young girls
14:36 be able to look at that and be like,
14:37 okay, this is where she started, this is where she is,
14:39 and this is the journey in between.
14:40 And I think that is really nice.
14:41 Obviously there's a downfall because people still see you,
14:44 especially as a child actor.
14:45 So people are like, wait, you're not eight years old anymore
14:48 and you don't have a shaved head?
14:49 And it's like, well, no, I'm 20.
14:51 Like, I have a life and I wanna grow as a person,
14:55 but also as an actor.
14:56 And so I'm proud of myself for being confident
14:58 and for putting myself out there.
15:01 And despite what anybody thinks of my performance,
15:03 I had fun and that's all that matters.
15:06 Thank you for watching.
15:12 [MUSIC PLAYING]
