00:00 Getting out while you can? Don't give this sucker no statute. Give him guts.
00:04 I told you I wasn't going away. You got your shot. Now give me mine.
00:07 Here's a look at the brand new Star Ace Rocky III Clubber Lane 1/6 scale collectible figure.
00:12 [intro]
00:22 [pulling out the box]
00:44 In Rocky III, the Italian Stallion faced off against up-and-coming boxer that was meaner
00:48 and tougher than Rocky Balboa had ever been. Clubber was just as vicious outside the ring,
00:52 throwing insults as devastating as his punches. Only with the help of his friend Apollo Creed
00:57 could Rocky get back the eye of the tiger and find a way to match Clubber Lane punch for punch.
01:01 The 1/6 scale stands 30 centimeters tall and features a head sculpt with an authentic likeness
01:05 to Clubber Lane. He comes with interchangeable hands and boxing gloves, his blue robe and
01:09 championship belt. The deluxe version comes with all of the above, his street wear with furry vest
01:15 and additional head sculpt featuring earrings are also included. While Clubber's threatening Rocky
01:19 to beat him like a dog, like a dog, we're going to grab the tape measure and see how tall the
01:23 brand new 1/6 scale figure of Clubber Lane stands from Rocky III. This is also provided by the folks
01:28 over at Star Ace, so thank you for that. They were also nice enough to provide the deluxe version,
01:32 which is slated to release the first quarter of 2024 for $299.99. If you're not as interested to
01:38 get the deluxe version accessories, the standard release is going to be a little bit less than
01:42 that. Clubber Lane though, going back to the measurements, if you count the mohawk on the top
01:46 of his head, it gives us a figure that's about 11 and a half inches in height or he's about 29
01:51 centimeters tall. Now entering the ring, sliding over Clubber Lane and bringing in the earlier
01:56 looked at Rocky Apollo Creed. Now obviously since the time of doing the review, some sad news had
02:02 gone around Hollywood that the actor of course that portrayed Apollo Creed, Carl Weathers,
02:06 had passed away. Really sad news. Not only was I a big fan of him in Rocky, but also quite a big
02:11 fan of him in Predator. When it comes to certainly the bodies though, if you look at the two,
02:15 other than the fact that obviously they're wearing different trunks and Apollo's then
02:18 wearing the jacket, it seems to be the case that Star Ace is using the same bodies between the two
02:23 characters. Bodies aren't the only thing that are shared between the two figures, as they both come
02:28 included with the same type of display stand. Just reaching off to the side and bringing in the one
02:32 from Apollo Creed. Short of maybe just changing the font where Apollo creates the master of
02:36 disaster and Clubber Lane the street fighter, the stands are exactly the same, including as well the
02:40 adjustable neck on the top. You can of course take the display stand and take your Clubber Lane and
02:45 just attach them onto the top of it. Obviously you just want to bring the middle cradle there up a
02:49 little bit higher, but I do like the fact that all the stands are consistent with one another.
02:53 I would imagine that's the trend that's going to continue on as well as we get future figures from
02:57 Star Ace. Splitting up the accessories, on one side here we got all the things that come included
03:01 with the standard release Clubber Lane. On this side however though, all the casual clothing are
03:05 the things that are going to get packed along with the deluxe release. By the way, the differences
03:08 between the two prices, the standard release Clubber Lane is $259.99, the deluxe version is $299.99, so
03:14 it's again about a difference of $40. For the things that come included at least with a standard
03:19 release and you can then decide for yourself which version of Clubber Lane you'd like to get for
03:22 yourself, the figure comes included first of all with his blue robe. The boxing robe is nicely
03:27 tailored here, not only having real working pockets on the sides, but also as well that the inside of
03:31 the jacket looks just as good as it does on the outside. Star Ace is always really good when it
03:35 comes to like the costuming, whether it be the Rocky characters or be the previously looked at
03:39 Harry Potter characters, they always do really well when it comes to their costumes. On the back, it
03:43 does say Clubber Lane South Side Slugger and this simply is just a case of fitting this over top of
03:48 his body. Because he's using a seamless body though, the material that they're using is a little
03:52 bit more tacky, so you'll notice though when you're trying to put the jacket on here that it may stick
03:58 to the sides of his arms, you just sort of have to keep finagling its way up. I showed you guys
04:02 what that looked like at the beginning of this review, I might actually come back maybe to the
04:05 robe or might just end up dressing him up in the casual clothing as we wrap up this review.
04:09 The character also as well comes include this towel, usually it's something that's thrown in
04:13 if you want to stop the match or if you decide to hold back and not throw in the towel, it ends up
04:17 just killing the other fighter. Oh wait, that hasn't happened yet. The towel is pretty clean though,
04:21 it doesn't look like it's got sweat stains or anything on this, something of course you could
04:25 just have it carrying around on his shoulder or around his arm if you want to, just a nice little
04:29 included accessory. The figure also as well comes include this championship title. I really like the
04:34 look of this, although the thing that kind of has me confused here is if you look at the lineage here
04:38 of the of the medallions, you can see it has Rocky, then it has Apollo Creed, then of course you've got
04:44 the main medallion on the front. On the side though you've got Clever Lane and then right over here it
04:49 seems to be Ivan Drago. I don't know if that's the case, which just happens to be another boxer,
04:54 but funny enough though that this belt is supposed to predate Rocky IV and yet on the side though it
04:59 does very much look like it's Ivan Drago. Other than that though it's a nice looking belt. The
05:04 belt is mostly made of material but the inside of it is a little bit more rigid. It actually
05:08 attaches on the back, not by actually the fasteners, but rather instead velcro. So you just un-velcro
05:14 the back end of it and then you just take your character of Clever Lane, just fit this around
05:18 his body. Again, like if you've ever had like a slap bracelet, it's kind of that same similar
05:24 material, very rigid on the inside. This just again fits around his waist like that and then you'll
05:30 just take the back and then you'll just have the velcro piece basically velcro in on itself. It
05:35 stays closed pretty well and then again it gives you a nice little decorative way of displaying
05:40 the figure. I always really like the idea of Clever Lane carrying around the title like this,
05:43 although again it's a little strange the fact that the one badge here on the back does seem to have
05:48 an apparent image of Ivan Drago. Go ahead right now, very carefully remove this. When you are
05:53 removing it by the way, try to take it from the rigid end of the piece, like the harder plastic.
05:57 Don't try to pull it from this section just because again like these are little fastener pieces.
06:01 You don't want to actually rip these in the process. So just kind of take that off
06:05 and we'll just put this off to the side. Speaking though of the belt, I guess I should have waited
06:10 to take the belt off. The character also comes included with tiny little ruby stones. If you
06:15 look at the front of the belt, it seems to be more additional ruby stones than if any of these happen
06:19 to fall off the belt, which knock on wood hasn't happened yet. They seem to have thrown in a couple
06:23 of extras. It looks like maybe what three extra little stones that you can replace out here if
06:27 any one of these happen to fall off. Nice looking belt though, not sure about the accuracy of it,
06:32 but nice belt nonetheless. We're going to put that off to the side. The figure also comes
06:35 included with six pairs of interchangeable hands. As it is right now, the figure has a punching
06:40 bag, a punching gloves, but it does also come with just closed fists. You know again if you
06:44 want to just bare knuckle fight it. Nicely detailed, very nicely sculpted also as well.
06:49 The character also comes included with a pair of relaxed hands and he also comes included with a
06:55 pair of bandaged hands. Similar style of hands also came included with Apollo Creed, if you wanted to
07:03 go certainly back and look at that review. I do really like the way that they've actually used a
07:06 real wrapping as opposed to just mimicking it in plastic. I mean obviously plastic would have just
07:10 been the easier route for Star Ace to go with, but actually wrapping it really shows that there's an
07:15 amount of time and effort on the company's part to make this look screen accurate. That's probably
07:19 one of the reasons also as well that they chose to give these guys seamless bodies as opposed to
07:24 visible joints. The last thing that the character comes included with before we start to venture off
07:28 into the deluxe territory is he comes also included with a swappable head sculpt. I really like this
07:33 head sculpt for Clever Lane. It does certainly give us the image, gives a very strong likeness
07:38 to Mr. T. I always was a big fan of Clever Lane. I mean obviously there was the brute force of Ivan
07:43 Drago, but there was the sinister nature behind Clever Lane that really ran Rocky from pillar to
07:48 pillar, post to post. Really like, I always really liked Clever Lane and I think the head sculpt
07:52 is again a service to the work that again Star Ace is really putting into these pieces.
07:57 It looks very much like Mr. T down to these shaved off sides, Mohawk obviously on the top.
08:01 It seems to be like he also has some very apparent sweat marks, kind of little sweat
08:05 drippings down the side of his forehead. Really nice head sculpt on this one. Of course there is
08:10 the default head if you want to just stick with the neutral face and even just having the neutral
08:14 face, he certainly is still an angry looking guy. Comparing though the two between, I mean you
08:19 obviously can see the difference between the two, head sculpts are somewhat similar. Obviously the
08:23 facial expression a little bit different and this one also has the mouth guard. I do think that both
08:27 head sculpts are fantastic though. Was a big fan of Apollo Creed and I thought Star Ace did a really
08:31 good job on that one, but I don't know, I'm kind of leaning a little bit more towards Clever Lane,
08:35 maybe a little bias, maybe a little bias more towards Clever Lane. Changing though the head
08:38 sculpts is just a case of holding on to the torso, kind of as best you can get it and just pop it off
08:44 the ball post. You'll notice that the ball post is quite large and it also has its own independent
08:48 hinge right here at the base of the neck. So when you are putting the new head in, you might find
08:53 though that the head kind of shifts around a little bit as you're trying to get the head back onto the
08:56 ball post, just as you can see right there. And then of course you've got this now head sculpt,
09:01 if you want to have him again ready in an actual boxing match. Don't have yet a Rocky, but certainly
09:07 looking forward to getting a Rocky, have then him displayed along with either Clever Lane or Apollo
09:11 Creed. Of course this whole time talking about this, the character also as well comes included
09:15 with his boxing gloves. It says Clever on both sides of them and they're nicely detailed also
09:19 as well. Any one of these by the way you can just easily detach, just to show you guys what that
09:23 looks like. Just hold on to the forearm, just pop it off and you got a metal post on the end of it
09:28 that you can then replace out, if you want to have for example him just you know sparring with bare
09:32 knuckles. Unfortunately though the one downside to this, well there's two downsides, is that it's
09:37 not always the easiest thing to try to get the new hands on top of the post, just because again like
09:41 the post you kind of have to bring the forearms back just a little bit to try to get them actually
09:45 inside. These also do shift around quite a lot and the other thing I will notice though, at least
09:50 point out to you guys, because they're also using a very seamless body here, because of the rubber
09:55 material it doesn't quite match completely with the coloring of the plastic. If that's not a big
09:59 problem to you, I mean it's obviously not a big problem for me, because I'm just ultimately going
10:02 to have the figure displayed anyways with his boxing gloves, but yeah the hands being the
10:07 different material, obviously you'll notice it between the two, you know obviously if you're
10:11 displaying the figure with the bare hands, you're going to notice it right away. The other thing
10:15 that the character comes included with as well, we'll kind of have to dress him down into this
10:19 outfit a little bit later on, he also comes with his casual outfit. Now this is into now the
10:24 territory of the deluxe figure, he comes with first of all some casual casual shoes. These are
10:28 nicely done by the way, these are just a case of popping off the existing boxing boots and just
10:33 replacing it with these shoes. Because he's also wearing pants, I don't think you necessarily have
10:37 to change his socks off. The socks actually, there are no other pairs of socks that come included
10:41 with Clubber, so it's just probably a case that you're just going to remove off for example the
10:45 boxing boots, just like that, and then replace them off with the casual shoes and then you're
10:50 just going to run the slacks over top of that and then you just don't have to worry as much with
10:54 these socks underneath. The only other thing obviously you're going to have to do too is take
10:57 off then the boxing shorts. The other thing that the character comes included with for the
11:02 deluxe release, I'm just going to move everything out of the way here, comes with a pair of slacks,
11:06 nice slacks on these, again you've got real functioning pockets on the sides, what seems to
11:11 be almost like a full leather belt and this is an actual belt that you would have to take the time to
11:16 you know to do back up or to do up completely. Nice overall pants, they seem to be pressed as
11:21 well, there's no creases at all on these slacks. Character as well comes included with his shirt.
11:26 Now the shirt does have what looks to be real buttons on the front until you realize that you
11:31 open it up by peeling away the velcro. I mean it's the easiest way, I would hate to have gone in here
11:36 with such small buttons like this and have to worry about very meticulously undoing each button.
11:41 I mean nobody really wants to do that, instead it's just so much easier just to do it with the velcro,
11:46 just unpeel it, open it up and then fit it over top of his existing frame. We'll go back to it,
11:50 don't worry, we'll go back. And then the character finally comes included with this furry vest,
11:53 something like we see obviously in the movie, very nicely done. It doesn't look obviously like
11:58 they're using real animal fur, I mean it's obviously, I don't think any company would be
12:01 using real animal fur, but the inside of it does kind of give us kind of more of like a
12:05 polar fleece material and kind of gives us a simulated fur. In the movie I'm sure he probably
12:10 just wore real fur and then that would just go over top of his existing shirt. The only other
12:15 thing that the character comes in clue with for the deluxe release is one that I had a real hard
12:18 time with. He comes included with his tiny little, I think they're, are they rabbit feet, rabbit paws,
12:24 or they're actually just feathers. Either way he comes included with his pair of earrings.
12:28 You'll notice on the end that there is a clasp and you'll notice that the clasp is opened.
12:32 The idea is, if I just take the regular head sculpt for Clever Lane, is that you're supposed to
12:37 take yourself a pair of pliers, actually not pliers are included with this set, but if you do get
12:41 yourself a little pair of pliers, you're supposed to force the clasp a little bit more open than
12:45 what it is. Now I've tried that. I have been able to at least fix it, but what ended up happening
12:51 though was, if you've ever done this with a small tiny clasp, what always ends up seeing be the case
12:55 is that one gets pried up, one gets pried down, and after a while it gets so warped it becomes
13:00 almost impossible to really do the thing that you wanted to do with it. Once you're supposed to
13:05 pry these open, it's just a take, it's just a case of taking the clasp and it's supposed to fit on
13:09 the ends of his ears. Now again, I didn't have the easiest time to do this, I'll admit that.
13:14 The idea though is there's supposed to be, I don't know if you guys can actually see or not,
13:18 there's a hole right there or like a little indentation on the bottom of his lobe that
13:22 the ear, for all intents and purposes, the ear ring is supposed to fit right on top of that.
13:26 Now again, I had a hard time with this. I do really wish that there was another easier way
13:30 to do this as opposed to just taking yourself a pair of pliers and warping open the already
13:35 opened clasp to just try to fit that over his ear, because even then if you were to open this even
13:39 further than what it is, it's just going to sit loose until you try to close it again. So again,
13:44 like I wish there was an easier way. I mean obviously they went for more of the realism of it,
13:48 but if anything, maybe if they could have added like a little, I don't know, like a little pin
13:52 on the end of it and put a little very obvious hole there, I mean obviously it wouldn't have
13:56 looked as screen accurate, but at least it would ensure that Clubber would have himself his earrings,
14:01 because just opening these up the way that they are, not an easy thing, not an easy thing at all.
14:06 So let's have a look at the actual figure and then we'll kind of dress him into his deluxe
14:11 outfit or his casual outfit. Character, we've already looked at the fact that he does come
14:15 in clue with the alternate head sculpt. Whether you choose to go with the angry expression or
14:18 again you want to go back to the neutral expression, both head sculpts are painted
14:22 extremely well. I even like the fact that in this movie actually, Mr. T actually has these tiny
14:28 little tufts on the bottom of his beard. I don't think he actually had that for the A-team, but
14:32 good looking head sculpts in both the cases. Now for the rest of his body, he is using the seamless
14:37 body. Now that could be a deal breaker for some collectors out there that prefer to have, I kind
14:41 of generally like characters that have just visible joints, it doesn't really bother me. I don't really
14:46 want the realism to that extreme where the character is kind of encased in a rubber body.
14:50 That being said though, Star Ace has certainly done a good job when it comes to the rocky figures. I
14:55 mean the Apollo Creed I've had on display and I've had really no issues at all with the body. I can't
14:59 imagine that be the case at all either with Clever Lane. The seamless body definitely does give you
15:04 more movie realism to it because you're not looking at anything that's apparently swiveling
15:08 on the character or hinged, say for example, in his forearm. The body itself seems to be the exact
15:13 same one that we did get with Apollo Creed, a very muscular body build. Not one that I'm sure they
15:18 can replicate again over for Rocky. I mean Rocky would have a slightly smaller frame than both
15:22 Clever and Apollo Creed and I think Ivan Drago would have a different body obviously, so they'll
15:26 probably not be able to use the body for that as well. I mean in some of the areas obviously like
15:31 his pectorals, his abdomen, you definitely see there's a lot more of a softer, squishier type
15:37 of rubber material that they used and again like it's encasing over top of a metal frame. Basically
15:42 all the retained articulation is still there on the character. It just means that again like all
15:46 of it is being hidden by one like molded body over top of it. Down below of course he does have his
15:51 Clever Lane shorts, his Clever Lane boxing shorts and then matching socks down below, alternating
15:57 colors. You got the stripes there of the blue. They also find their way to the tassels there
16:02 that he has on his slightly dingy looking boxing boots but again nice boots either way.
16:07 For the figure's articulation, now his head sculpt is going to be, we already looked at the fact he's
16:11 on a ball post so because of that the head does rotate all the way around. The only thing about
16:16 it though is that while it rotates, I kept thinking this also when we were looking at Apollo Creed,
16:21 that I think that rotating it is back and forth. I wonder if we'll start to shred the rubber material
16:26 that they've used to the top of the neck. I mean nothing else is really going to be affected by
16:29 this but if you're just rotating the head back and forth like this, I would imagine that that's
16:33 going to start to have friction, rubbing against the rubber at the top of the neck. Head does look
16:38 down quite a lot actually. It looks up and you can also move it back and forth as well. In addition
16:42 to the ball joint here, you probably have already noticed that he has an additional ball joint here
16:47 so the head does also look down, back and also rock it back and forth as well. So he's got one here,
16:51 one here. As for the arms, the arms easily come out at 90 degrees. You may be able to bring them
16:56 out even further than 90 degrees but I really don't want to push the limits of where that
17:00 rubber would actually stretch. I mean as it is right now, this area is pretty tight. Well not
17:05 super tight but comparing it say to the biceps or the shoulders, this does feel like there's a little
17:10 less material right here so again I'm not going to bring it out too far up like this. 90 degrees is
17:14 good enough for me. Bring the arms forward, you can bring the arms back. The figure does have,
17:19 I wouldn't say necessarily a swivel in the bicep because basically as you're swiveling the bicep,
17:23 you're basically just moving the rubber in the material there. Figure has what seems to be a
17:27 double hinge on the elbow. Of course the hands do rotate all the way around. They're working on the
17:30 same post system as the head. Figure has an upper torso ball joint. He also has as well a lower
17:35 torso ball joint. Legs do split out. You can take the legs and move them forward, move them back.
17:40 A swivel at the top of the thigh, double hinge on the knee which again nice to see that and again
17:45 to some extent he also has articulation here for the boots. If I was just to take the boot off here
17:49 for a second, basically you still have the post system similar to what they would have done with
17:54 the wrist. It does move back and forth but only just by a little bit. I think the whole idea more
17:58 in mind is the fact that it just attaches the boots onto the ends of his legs. Nice looking figure
18:03 though. Nice looking figure. A bit biased again because I really was a big fan of Clever Lane.
18:08 I mean again like I know everybody kind of says right away it's either Apollo Creed or it's
18:12 usually Ivan Drago but meeting somewhere in the middle obviously meeting right in the middle with
18:16 Rocky 3. Something to be said about Clever Lane. He was relentless. He was merciless and unlike Ivan
18:21 Drago who just had power behind his punches, Clever Lane went in there with a purpose to just
18:26 destroy Rocky and I think that story has done once again a great job on the release of the figure.
18:30 Now just kind of moving everything out of the way here sliding over again the Clever Lane that we
18:35 looked at and again because of course we just recently lost Carl Weathers. Really sad sad news
18:41 is what the figure again looks like along with the Apollo Creed. Nice looking figures we've gotten so
18:45 far from Starrys. Now again I didn't dress him down into his casual clothing. We'll kind of maybe jump
18:50 over to the turntable and I'll show you guys what that actually looks like. I'm glad to see that you
18:53 know if you were for example kind of on the fence as to which version of Clever you wanted to get.
18:58 Honestly for all the stuff that we actually get with the standard release and keeping in mind
19:03 again like it's a $40 difference, I don't know if I'm going to really end up displaying the character
19:07 in his casual clothing. I might just end up displaying him with the stuff that comes with
19:11 the standard release. If you feel that same similar way, you might even just save yourself the $40 and
19:16 not get the deluxe version and get the standard release instead. We may have started the review
19:20 of Clever Lane where he was wearing his boxing attire. Wanted to take things to the streets
19:23 though and have the figure depicted as he looks in his casual clothing. A good way as well to
19:27 showcase all the things that come in with the deluxe release of Clever Lane if you're interested
19:31 to go down that route. Either way though putting on the outfit whether it be the boxing robe or it
19:35 be the casual clothing can be difficult. Just because the character is all encased in a rubber
19:40 body, it means if you've ever tried to put fabric on top of rubber, everything sticks. There's
19:45 friction all the time and putting on pants and putting on shirts would normally have been an
19:49 easier feat on a plastic body but trying to put it on rubber, like I said, you're going to fit it
19:54 over top of his frame and then you're going to have to go back and take little parts of the fabric
19:58 and just tug it slightly until eventually you get it around his big massive frame. It certainly
20:03 doesn't help either that Clever Lane has such a large body similar of course exactly in fact to
20:08 the the Apollo Creed that we've already had a look at. Both of them have very large torsos and I
20:12 would imagine Rocky would probably be using a seamless body too and putting on fabric on him
20:16 would just be as difficult. It just takes a little bit of time, a little bit of patience and also
20:20 speaking of patience, I was finally able to get actually the earrings attached onto the ends of
20:24 his lobes. It wasn't though easy, I had to pry it just a little bit more with a pair of pliers
20:29 but eventually it did fit onto the end of his lobe and actually the fur collar that he has now for
20:33 his vest kind of helps to keep the earrings in place so they don't actually fall off. If given
20:38 the choice though, I think I would rather still have Clever Lane I think displayed his normal
20:42 version with his just his regular boxing outfit. After all that's how I've got displayed the Apollo
20:47 Creed. I think I might just follow suit with that and have the figure displayed with that. Although
20:51 a strong contender as always is the case when stars throws in as good of a costumes as they do
20:55 with these characters, it's always sort of a nudge that you need in the direction of getting more
21:00 than one. So you can have in this case Clever Lane displayed as he is in the ring or as we see right
21:04 now the way the character can look outside the ring when he's just talks smack talking Rocky.
21:10 What do you guys think of the character? Let me know down below in the comment section and where
21:13 would you put Clever Lane in your tiers when it comes to bad guys in the Rocky films? Do you put
21:18 him pretty high? Do you put him pretty low? Do you put him somewhere in the middle? Let me know what
21:22 you guys think of the character down below. In the meantime though, big thank you once again to the
21:26 folks over at Star Ace that were kind enough to provide the sample of deluxe version Rocky 3
21:30 Clever Lane. We can have a look at this review. The guy is again slated to release the first quarter
21:34 of 2024. The deluxe version is going for $299.99. The normal version or standard release is going to
21:39 go for $259.99. So as you saw in this review everything from what you're seeing right now
21:44 is a difference of $40. You guys can let me know down below in the comment section what you guys
21:48 think of it and also as well if you guys did enjoy this video, why not throw it a like. If you guys
21:52 are loving the content you guys are seeing and you certainly do want to stick around for more,
21:55 we may not be looking at anything Star Ace related right now but if you need a fix for Star Ace,
22:00 popping up at the very end of this video will be also as well a playlist that covers the territory
22:04 of Star Ace's Harry Potter line which they were very successful at doing. That also as well covers
22:08 the new Rocky figures that we've been looking at both Clever Lane and Apollo Creed and it may also
22:14 include a Stade Puff Marshmallow Man. Imagine if Rocky was fighting Stade Puff Marshmallow Man.
22:20 Lots of videos coming your way guys so as always thanks for watching. See you guys next time!
