00:00:05 Can you say hard hats, folks?
00:00:07 Hard hats, munch pails, steel-toed boots.
00:00:09 Anything short of a championship this year is a failure.
00:00:12 Look at this boomer right here.
00:00:13 You've just got so much talent here.
00:00:16 Somebody said we need to apologize for Jalen.
00:00:18 Can I pull the John?
00:00:19 What are we apologizing for?
00:00:20 What did we say?
00:00:21 What did we do?
00:00:22 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:00:25 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:00:31 [HUMMING]
00:00:33 There it is.
00:00:34 We're back.
00:00:35 Thank you, Armin.
00:00:36 Celtics are back.
00:00:38 Celtics are back in the win column.
00:00:40 The boys are back in town.
00:00:41 Everybody's talking about the boys are back in town,
00:00:43 me and Bobby, of course, coming to you guys live
00:00:47 after a Celtics 117-107 win over the Kevin Durant-led Phoenix
00:00:53 Suns, a little Saturday night show.
00:00:54 Bobby, how we doing, man?
00:00:56 Good.
00:00:57 I enjoyed this one.
00:00:58 Get ready, Jimmy, because this might be--
00:01:00 aside from the Suns game next Thursday,
00:01:03 the last big matchup for a while for this team.
00:01:07 I was looking at that closing schedule last night.
00:01:10 It's pretty scary how many bad teams they play,
00:01:12 like awful teams.
00:01:13 We're going to be in just the dog day of the regular season
00:01:17 until we can--
00:01:19 this is good.
00:01:19 I'm fine with that.
00:01:20 I'm fine with that.
00:01:21 Nine games in the standings.
00:01:22 Yeah, ease into some things.
00:01:24 Get creative with some rotations.
00:01:26 Get some guys some burn that maybe aren't getting a lot.
00:01:29 Talk about Tillman and guys like that.
00:01:31 And then be 100% healthy.
00:01:35 That's the important thing.
00:01:36 100% healthy for the start of the playoffs.
00:01:38 Porzingis didn't get the nod, didn't play tonight.
00:01:41 Probably more maintenance-related
00:01:43 than anything else.
00:01:43 I don't think anyone's too concerned there.
00:01:46 But the Celtics do pull it off.
00:01:48 They hold off the fourth quarter run by Mr. Kevin Durant,
00:01:53 who-- what did he end up with, 43?
00:01:56 He was awesome.
00:01:57 That was some vintage stuff from him.
00:01:58 That was vintage Durant.
00:01:59 I think it was Washburn who tweeted,
00:02:03 it's just something else watching Durant and Al Horford
00:02:06 tonight, too, who had a huge three-pointer for the Celtics
00:02:08 late in that fourth quarter to put him up eight
00:02:11 to really hold off.
00:02:12 That was the-- I guess you'd call that the dagger shot,
00:02:15 if you want.
00:02:16 Two guys drafted in 2007 and just still doing their thing,
00:02:20 man.
00:02:22 Obviously, we're not--
00:02:23 Can you name the four guys left?
00:02:24 Hopefully it's not Durant, but no.
00:02:26 Tell me.
00:02:26 Don't make me struggle through it.
00:02:28 Well, you got those two.
00:02:29 You can't do two more?
00:02:31 No, do it.
00:02:35 Tell me.
00:02:36 Jeff Green, who's in Houston.
00:02:38 Jeff Green.
00:02:39 Don't get me started on Jeff Green.
00:02:41 Does he count?
00:02:43 He counts.
00:02:43 He's still playing.
00:02:44 And Mike Conley up in Minnesota.
00:02:47 Ah.
00:02:47 [INAUDIBLE]
00:02:48 You know what?
00:02:50 I'm giving Jeff Green--
00:02:52 I'm giving him--
00:02:53 He just won the championship.
00:02:55 Jeff Green has done a lot to--
00:02:58 talk about a guy who had a heart issue
00:03:00 and had to go through all that and rehab and come back.
00:03:04 And to still be playing to the point where he can be in a
00:03:08 roster is a testament to him.
00:03:10 But I'll never forgive him for the way
00:03:12 things happened when Celtics traded for him
00:03:14 and they traded Perkins away.
00:03:15 And I don't want to get into it.
00:03:16 I'll get into a bad mood.
00:03:17 But let's talk about this game, Bobby.
00:03:21 Joe Sway.
00:03:22 Welcome.
00:03:23 Just in time for the Jeff Green talk.
00:03:25 Jeez.
00:03:26 Save it, man.
00:03:27 Let's get into it, too.
00:03:28 Don't get me started.
00:03:28 Yeah.
00:03:28 Don't get me started.
00:03:29 We can revisit that.
00:03:30 You know I'm here for that.
00:03:31 Yeah, we don't want to revisit that one, Joe Sway,
00:03:34 because it did not end the way we wanted it to.
00:03:36 Danny Ainge needs to take that one back.
00:03:38 I'm not going to do it.
00:03:39 But--
00:03:40 That's the one.
00:03:41 All right, we got the three amigos here tonight,
00:03:44 Saturday night.
00:03:45 Maybe Sherrod jumps in.
00:03:46 John is up.
00:03:47 John's probably in bed Saturday night at this time.
00:03:50 He's probably--
00:03:50 In bed.
00:03:51 We'll give him a break.
00:03:53 We'll give John a break tonight.
00:03:54 He's been on a lot of these ones.
00:03:56 But off the top, I mean, what stands out to you guys?
00:03:59 I mean, we had a--
00:04:01 [INAUDIBLE]
00:04:02 Yeah, we had a-- you know, if the Celtics blew this one,
00:04:04 I think John would have probably hopped on.
00:04:05 But they pulled it off.
00:04:06 Tatum, unlike the last couple of games,
00:04:09 Tatum showed up tonight in the fourth quarter,
00:04:11 had a couple of big plays, a couple of big shots,
00:04:13 nice, emphatic dunk.
00:04:16 And was pretty humble after the game,
00:04:19 as he usually is in the post-game interview,
00:04:21 basically saying that he's--
00:04:23 on games where he quote, unquote "stinks it up,"
00:04:25 which he said was one of those nights tonight,
00:04:27 he relies on his teammates to come through.
00:04:29 So we'll get into that a little bit as well.
00:04:32 Bobby, we'll start with you.
00:04:33 Just thoughts on tonight's win after--
00:04:37 and we can talk about this one later again.
00:04:39 But after a tough loss in Denver,
00:04:41 which I'm sure a lot of people didn't stay up for that show
00:04:44 because it was a late one.
00:04:45 So we can maybe--
00:04:46 Yeah.
00:04:46 --dash that up too.
00:04:47 Tatum characterized that loss, that performance
00:04:50 after that game as him getting out of the way,
00:04:53 him spacing for Brown.
00:04:54 Now the guy had it going.
00:04:56 And I thought it was total BS.
00:04:58 We said it on that show, late that game.
00:05:00 That was not just him being the man of the people
00:05:05 there, trying to get everybody else involved.
00:05:06 He was really bad in that game.
00:05:08 Missed shots, sloppy with the ball, all the way down
00:05:11 the line.
00:05:12 So tonight, I thought, was actually a better example
00:05:16 of that.
00:05:16 And yes, he missed shots.
00:05:17 Yes, he had some bad turnovers in this game.
00:05:19 On the whole, it was another, I'd say, mediocre Tatum game.
00:05:25 But to stay in the game, make the plays late,
00:05:28 that's more the Tatum we expect and the Tatum
00:05:32 that wins games for this team.
00:05:34 And I thought he said it well after the game, the fact
00:05:36 that he can lean on the teammates.
00:05:38 I thought there was more Derek White tonight, something
00:05:40 we asked for last game.
00:05:42 More Drew Holiday as well, who was pretty solid.
00:05:44 And Jalen Brown, great again.
00:05:47 Two missed free throws in the fourth quarter
00:05:49 that could have played a big role in this game going
00:05:52 the other way.
00:05:52 But overall, attacking mismatches,
00:05:54 making the right play against those mismatches
00:05:56 when Phoenix tried to do some funky things defensively,
00:05:59 I thought he was amazing.
00:06:01 So I like the way they shifted their focus and ball
00:06:04 time towards some other players, knowing the Tatum didn't really
00:06:07 have it in this game.
00:06:08 And at the same time, Tatum staying in the game
00:06:11 enough to be able to make those plays late,
00:06:12 because he wouldn't have been able to do that against Denver,
00:06:15 as you saw in that fourth quarter.
00:06:16 Joe, sorry.
00:06:20 No, no question.
00:06:21 I just think a lot of the times, the criticism
00:06:24 is going to be when obviously things don't go well
00:06:28 and they lose or whatever.
00:06:29 I think it's going to go back to, well,
00:06:32 what happened with Tatum.
00:06:33 And obviously, that would happen tonight
00:06:35 if it went the other way.
00:06:36 Yeah, people are licking their chops now with Tatum, right?
00:06:40 I mean, the critics are watching his every move.
00:06:43 It's amazing the microscope he's under.
00:06:45 And he's under huge.
00:06:46 That's fair.
00:06:47 If he makes that corner three, you really
00:06:49 think people would have been giving him crap,
00:06:50 even if they were to lose in that overtime?
00:06:52 Maybe a little bit, but they would have said,
00:06:53 hey, without Tatum, he hit that big shot.
00:06:55 And in this game, he did sort of pick that up.
00:06:57 I think, yeah, he would have said they won,
00:06:59 but man, did they play bad.
00:07:00 Right, right.
00:07:01 But we wouldn't have been giving him so much flag.
00:07:03 And in this one, he hit the dagger, so to speak.
00:07:06 But it was the other stuff as well.
00:07:08 I mean, those two turnovers were ugly.
00:07:11 I'm thinking to myself, oh, here we go again.
00:07:13 And let's face it, the Phoenix Suns
00:07:14 should have made at least one of those three-pointers
00:07:16 between Kevin Durant and, what was it, Royce O'Neal.
00:07:19 They had clean looks.
00:07:20 Clean looks, wide open looks.
00:07:22 So maybe the Suns just caught a break.
00:07:24 But yeah, I mean, the fact that he
00:07:26 seemed like he wanted to play the whole fourth quarter,
00:07:29 whether as playmaker or picking his spots.
00:07:31 And I think that it was one of those
00:07:32 where it was a combination of the two, where he was going
00:07:34 to pick his spots.
00:07:35 Whereas in Denver, it was more of the pouty, disinterested.
00:07:39 Tonight's just not my type.
00:07:40 He looked uninvolved.
00:07:41 Exactly.
00:07:42 Taking out of the game.
00:07:43 Exactly.
00:07:43 Tonight was different compared to when
00:07:46 you look at what happened in Denver, where it was just like,
00:07:48 he was just not into it at all.
00:07:50 And he was overly frustrated with his offense
00:07:53 that it overtook his focus, essentially.
00:07:56 In this game, completely different.
00:07:58 He didn't lose the focus, but his offense clearly
00:08:00 wasn't there.
00:08:01 His scoring wasn't there.
00:08:03 But he was trying to find other ways to be effective.
00:08:05 And I just think he was just way more engaged against the Suns
00:08:07 than what we saw a couple nights ago in Denver.
00:08:10 Why do you think that was, though?
00:08:11 I mean, is it the Durant factor?
00:08:13 We know that those two--
00:08:14 The Durant factor.
00:08:15 I mean, the criticism off of what happened--
00:08:17 Yeah, is it just the noise, maybe?
00:08:19 I think it's the noise.
00:08:22 It's weird coming off of a Player of the Month award,
00:08:26 right?
00:08:27 And with what Jalen's doing right now,
00:08:29 I feel like he's like, man, I got to--
00:08:31 this has to translate into wins.
00:08:33 So I think there's some of that as well.
00:08:35 But yeah, I mean, marquee matchups,
00:08:39 nationally televised game, Durant, I think,
00:08:41 is a factor, one of those guys that I feel like he's like,
00:08:45 man, he's one of those goats.
00:08:47 And rightfully so.
00:08:48 I mean, he nearly helped the Suns get back into this one,
00:08:51 but they fell short.
00:08:53 Tatum already at the podium, given his own explanation,
00:08:56 said he took a mental break with some coaches
00:09:00 on Friday in Phoenix.
00:09:02 They golfed, and Tatum won some money.
00:09:05 Oh.
00:09:05 He said that?
00:09:06 Golfing's back.
00:09:07 Golfing's back for Tatum.
00:09:09 I thought he said he--
00:09:09 What was the question?
00:09:10 Put that down for a bit.
00:09:13 I don't know what the question is, but we'll see if--
00:09:15 we'll see if we can get a clip of that one.
00:09:16 And--
00:09:17 What do you mean, Jimmy?
00:09:17 Did he stop golfing?
00:09:18 He loves golf.
00:09:19 I thought that he said that he--
00:09:21 I thought I saw somewhere that maybe he wasn't
00:09:23 doing it as much anymore.
00:09:24 But who knows?
00:09:25 Yeah.
00:09:26 I mean, you can't do it in Boston.
00:09:28 Right.
00:09:29 Yeah, I mean, that's probably by default, right?
00:09:32 You got to do the base.
00:09:33 But no, we'll get--
00:09:35 sure, we'll try to get some clips if we can.
00:09:37 What do you think was different, Jimmy?
00:09:40 I just think--
00:09:41 I mean, I kind of piggyback off what you guys said a little
00:09:44 bit.
00:09:44 I didn't get to watch as close--
00:09:47 oh.
00:09:48 Was I on mute that whole time?
00:09:49 Nope.
00:09:50 No, I heard everything, though.
00:09:51 That means I got the wrong mic going,
00:09:53 because I had my mic on mute.
00:09:54 So I'll have to fix that.
00:09:56 But no, I think that, honestly, he was more engaged tonight.
00:10:00 And I'm not going to say it was because of the noise
00:10:04 or because of Durant.
00:10:05 But listen, he's still Jason Tatum.
00:10:07 I mean, it's not like--
00:10:08 That's who he is.
00:10:09 Yeah.
00:10:10 To me, it's more rare to see him struggle and to have a bad game
00:10:15 than it is to have a good game, right?
00:10:17 I mean, I think the expectation is minimum 25,
00:10:21 but 30-plus points here.
00:10:23 So how is he getting other guys involved?
00:10:26 To me, it's not so much the execution
00:10:29 in the first three quarters.
00:10:30 It is down the stretch.
00:10:31 It's knowing the situation.
00:10:33 It's being the killer.
00:10:34 And I think that's what a lot of people want with Tatum, is,
00:10:37 we know you can score.
00:10:38 We know you can pass now.
00:10:39 We know you can rebound and do all those things.
00:10:41 But can you be a killer?
00:10:43 Can you take it to that next level?
00:10:45 And actually, if you're talking about being the, quote, unquote,
00:10:48 "face of the NBA" and all this stuff,
00:10:50 well, you've got to do more than what you're doing.
00:10:54 And tonight, again, he didn't go into--
00:10:57 it wasn't like, oh my god, unbelievable MVP caliber
00:11:01 performance by any stretch.
00:11:03 But he was able to reign it in in that fourth quarter,
00:11:05 make some big plays, and trust his teammates.
00:11:09 And that's the other thing, is he doesn't need to be--
00:11:14 as much as he wants to be, and maybe we want him to be--
00:11:18 he doesn't need to always be the guy late in those games.
00:11:20 And that's what I think a lot of people are saying.
00:11:22 And when they pull up the stats, they say, wait a second.
00:11:25 He's 3 for 30 late in games from 3,
00:11:28 or whatever it is, in close games.
00:11:30 But you have Jalen Brown.
00:11:31 You have Jorge Zingas now.
00:11:32 And you have Derek White.
00:11:34 You have Hoar for who had a big 3 late in this game.
00:11:36 You don't need to go into hero mode.
00:11:38 As much as you maybe want to be the face of the NBA
00:11:40 and be the franchise guy and be the hero,
00:11:43 you actually do have enough health
00:11:45 where you don't need to be that person.
00:11:47 So just don't force it.
00:11:48 Don't automatically assume that that's where it's going.
00:11:50 And they've had to adjust his mindset in that sense,
00:11:52 going back to the E-mate year.
00:11:54 He would talk about, you don't have your shot.
00:11:56 You've got to do all this other stuff.
00:11:58 And that's, as you said, Jimmy, the most shocking thing
00:12:00 about the Denver game, that he didn't rebound.
00:12:03 He wasn't impacting the game from a playmaking position.
00:12:05 He was struggling in that regard.
00:12:07 And defensively, he had some lapses in that game,
00:12:10 or at least he didn't meet the moment in terms
00:12:12 of how he can in that position.
00:12:14 So to see him do those things in this game,
00:12:16 I do think he passed well.
00:12:18 I do think he got off the ball well in spots.
00:12:21 And he certainly made some defensive plays as well
00:12:24 down the stretch in this game.
00:12:25 He can do that.
00:12:26 And the 29 points in the end is a bonus and probably
00:12:29 a product to some degree of staying in the game the way
00:12:32 he did with those other things.
00:12:34 So that's what you expect from him, Joe Sway,
00:12:36 in a game like the Denver one.
00:12:38 It's not just that he didn't score.
00:12:39 That's what makes it frustrating to hear him say after a game
00:12:42 like that, like, yeah, I could have made it all about me
00:12:44 with the shooting and the scoring,
00:12:46 but I had to get out of the way for the other guys.
00:12:48 It's not about that.
00:12:49 It's about doing the other things.
00:12:52 Joe Sway, I can't hear you.
00:12:57 Sure.
00:12:58 I forgot to unmute myself.
00:13:01 Yeah, I just think a lot of the times,
00:13:02 it's what you just said, Jimmy.
00:13:05 I'm the face of the NBA.
00:13:07 It's like, you got to back that stuff up,
00:13:09 or at least that's what people are going to expect out of you.
00:13:12 You're going to set the bar that high.
00:13:12 But why put that pressure on yourself, though?
00:13:14 Why say those things when it's like, you don't--
00:13:18 pull it back a bit.
00:13:20 As much as it would be cool, but that's not the goal.
00:13:22 That's not the situation.
00:13:23 And maybe that's honestly not--
00:13:25 the makeup of this team makes it a lot harder
00:13:27 to be that guy because there is so much talent around you.
00:13:31 You know what I mean?
00:13:32 You have a Jalen Brown on your team
00:13:34 who's the highest paid player in the NBA currently.
00:13:36 You have a Porzingis who, I think we can all agree,
00:13:39 if he played a few more games, is an all-star this year.
00:13:41 You have a Derek White who's playing way above what anybody,
00:13:45 I think, expected.
00:13:46 So it's hard to just rise above all that
00:13:49 and be the MVP or the face of the league.
00:13:52 And that's fine if your goal is to win a championship.
00:13:55 So I think late in games, let's keep that same energy
00:13:58 and let's think that same way, where it's like,
00:14:00 it doesn't need to be me dribbling down the clock.
00:14:02 And I hope Mizzou will--
00:14:04 look around, dude.
00:14:06 There's so many options and there's so much talent
00:14:08 on this team where if you do find yourself
00:14:10 in a situation late in the game,
00:14:12 don't be afraid to call that time out.
00:14:14 Don't be afraid to drop that play for somebody else.
00:14:16 Don't be afraid to have Tatum as option B
00:14:19 or whatever it might be, because there is that help.
00:14:21 And it's good to have him there too,
00:14:22 but there's no need to put on that unnecessary,
00:14:27 just default pressure of--
00:14:30 - Pressure.
00:14:31 - I'm the guy, this is what's gonna happen,
00:14:33 and we're gonna go down with this ship.
00:14:35 You know what I mean?
00:14:36 - 'Cause then it's like, well, which one is it?
00:14:38 What's the narrative here?
00:14:40 Clearly none of us believe that Tatum is all out there
00:14:42 to be the face of the NBA, MVP talk.
00:14:47 I mean, even though he was technically in that conversation
00:14:49 after Dwell and B went down,
00:14:50 was he hearing some of that noise and saying,
00:14:51 maybe I need to sort of push the ball in that direction
00:14:54 or at least push the narrative in that direction
00:14:55 so people can get talking about it?
00:14:57 Maybe, maybe not.
00:14:58 Maybe he was just feeling himself off of the win streak.
00:15:00 But my thing is, I was surprised to hear him talk like that
00:15:04 because they've been so consistent with the narrative of,
00:15:07 it's all about championship.
00:15:08 It's about the team, team this, team that.
00:15:10 And I love that, especially when you think
00:15:12 about the last couple of runs
00:15:13 and the hurdles that this team has faced.
00:15:17 Like, okay, yeah, that's the right message to send.
00:15:19 Believe in that.
00:15:20 Everyone has to subscribe to that.
00:15:22 And then it was kind of, I was a little surprised.
00:15:25 All of a sudden he's talking about being the face
00:15:27 of the NBA and he's back into the MVP conversation.
00:15:30 But look, at the end of the day,
00:15:32 it's about winning a championship.
00:15:34 And that's what this team is on pace to do.
00:15:36 And if he was mentioned in the MVP conversation,
00:15:40 well, that's great.
00:15:42 Go ahead, do your thing.
00:15:43 But I was surprised for him to sort of engage
00:15:45 in that type of stuff and saying like,
00:15:46 oh, well, I'm the face of the NBA.
00:15:48 Or when, especially after Robert Bobby
00:15:51 at the All-Star Weekend, Adam Silver got the question,
00:15:53 who's the next face of the NBA?
00:15:55 I said, like, Commissioner Anoits,
00:15:57 who's the face of the NBA?
00:15:58 It doesn't quite work like that.
00:15:59 - We're already worried about life after LeBron, man.
00:16:01 Let's not rush him out the door yet, right?
00:16:03 - Right, and then Tatum is like,
00:16:05 it kind of felt like he was campaigning,
00:16:07 like, hey, I'm that guy.
00:16:08 And it was like, well, wait a minute.
00:16:09 I thought it was about winning a championship here.
00:16:11 And if anything, like, we have to say that.
00:16:14 You don't say that about yourself.
00:16:15 You know, I was a little surprised by it.
00:16:17 - The campaign for that and then the MVP stuff,
00:16:19 which backfired pretty quickly because it coincided
00:16:22 with some pretty bad stretch of play and a couple of losses.
00:16:25 And, you know, again, I think if the Celtics blew this one
00:16:29 in the fourth quarter, tonight's show goes a lot differently
00:16:31 and I'd be very interested to see how a lot of fans
00:16:34 and how a lot of critics think about this team
00:16:36 over the next month.
00:16:37 But they're able to right the ship, you know,
00:16:39 coming off in a tough loss,
00:16:41 still on the road against a good Suns team.
00:16:44 You know, granted they're not the Celtics,
00:16:46 they're not the Nuggets,
00:16:47 but this is a Suns team with a guy in Kevin Duran.
00:16:49 And, you know, they've got plenty of talent on this team,
00:16:53 a team that should be in the,
00:16:55 a team that's, I would say,
00:16:57 I don't know where you want to put them
00:16:59 in the Western Conference,
00:17:01 but top four, top five team easy with talent-wise, right?
00:17:04 - Bobby, no, yes.
00:17:05 - Five, six.
00:17:06 - Beale, Booker, Durant, you know.
00:17:08 - Yeah, Booker being out tonight was a big deal.
00:17:11 - Yeah, well, that was the thing.
00:17:12 No Booker for them, no Porzingis for the Celtics.
00:17:15 It's like, what do you, you know,
00:17:16 how much do you want to put stock into both those teams?
00:17:19 - It's just, they have nothing.
00:17:20 The game really started to turn early
00:17:22 when the Benches came in.
00:17:24 Even started the fourth when Phoenix brought in
00:17:26 some bench guys like Bo Bo.
00:17:28 It's not a good cast.
00:17:30 Saban, Lee.
00:17:31 - Right.
00:17:33 - You can say that about the Celtics too.
00:17:34 I mean, we can talk about the Celtics bench the same way.
00:17:38 - I thought they gave them a real good spark
00:17:39 early in this game.
00:17:40 You had Cornett scoring early.
00:17:42 You had Hauser hitting a shot.
00:17:43 You had Pritchard hitting a really difficult corner three.
00:17:46 So this is the Celtics bench getting back
00:17:48 to themselves a little bit too in this game,
00:17:50 just as it was for Tatum.
00:17:51 They were awful in Denver.
00:17:53 No impact whatsoever.
00:17:55 - You're talking about two guys though.
00:17:57 You're talking about two guys.
00:17:58 - Yeah, well, that's the game for the Celtics there.
00:18:03 Yeah.
00:18:04 So you only need minimal contributions from those guys.
00:18:09 Yeah.
00:18:10 And they got them.
00:18:11 And that ended up being, I thought, a difference
00:18:14 in the game.
00:18:14 We can get to the Cornett stuff later,
00:18:16 but I just like how they played as a team
00:18:18 when they went back to Tatum.
00:18:19 A lot of it's the aggression too.
00:18:24 And that's why I do generally like this game from him
00:18:27 on the whole, because he stayed aggressive.
00:18:29 He stayed involved.
00:18:31 He played big minutes.
00:18:33 And he did all those little things.
00:18:35 Yeah.
00:18:36 And he wanted to get back into the flow of the game.
00:18:38 Like I'm looking at the little notes I have here.
00:18:40 Put up a lot of shots in the fourth.
00:18:42 And I don't think he was forcing them.
00:18:43 I think he was getting them in the rhythm of the offense,
00:18:46 flow of the offense.
00:18:47 He got that nice driving dunk.
00:18:48 He missed some open threes.
00:18:50 He had that nice step through move
00:18:51 that he should have made in there.
00:18:52 And he got a second chance to make it.
00:18:54 I mean, that's just point blank shot there.
00:18:56 So I love him staying in the game.
00:18:58 I love him reducing the turnovers.
00:19:00 'Cause those are really the plays that are unacceptable.
00:19:03 You know, dribbling off the foot,
00:19:05 losing the ball in traffic.
00:19:06 Those are the killers.
00:19:08 He started to clean those up as the game went on.
00:19:09 So he didn't shoot well.
00:19:11 What did he finish in this one?
00:19:12 Like 11 to 28.
00:19:16 So 39%.
00:19:18 I don't feel like he was awful.
00:19:20 I thought he missed some open shots
00:19:22 and didn't play well early,
00:19:24 but he got some better quality shots as the game went on.
00:19:27 Stayed in the flow of things.
00:19:28 Because the one thing you can't do,
00:19:29 and this is what he did against Denver,
00:19:31 is just give up the ball, get out of the way,
00:19:34 and you know, maybe a seven, eight assist
00:19:36 by the end of the night.
00:19:37 But the turnovers dig into that.
00:19:40 He's not manipulating the defense 'cause he's not involved.
00:19:43 And he's so passive that he's easy to guard.
00:19:45 And that happened in the finals two years ago.
00:19:48 And that happened against Denver.
00:19:50 This wasn't that kind of game to me.
00:19:52 I don't think Phoenix was doing anything
00:19:54 that took him out of the game.
00:19:55 I don't think he was passive.
00:19:59 I thought he was aggressive,
00:20:01 made some mistakes early, cleaned them up late.
00:20:04 And that's what you gotta do if you're him.
00:20:05 I thought this was, as you said off the top, Jimmy,
00:20:07 just Tatum being Tatum.
00:20:10 And you know, maybe there's some things
00:20:12 he needs to get better at to be
00:20:13 at that next level of the game.
00:20:15 But what they need to do to win,
00:20:16 and as they always talk about,
00:20:18 winning will kind of solve all those things,
00:20:20 him staying dedicated to that kind of approach to the game.
00:20:25 - Because it's not gonna be 30 points and great shooting
00:20:30 that's gonna get him to that kind of status.
00:20:31 It's gonna be stacking up championships
00:20:33 because he has the opportunity-
00:20:34 - Minimizing turnovers.
00:20:35 - To turn over his team.
00:20:36 Yeah. - Oh, you mean
00:20:37 on the grand scheme. - On the big level, yeah.
00:20:40 - Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
00:20:41 We got a quote from, this is from Adam.
00:20:43 Adam Himmelsbach tweeted this out.
00:20:44 Mizzoula said, "Tatum asked him if he could go the distance
00:20:48 "in the second half, and he said yes.
00:20:50 "He said he liked his general mindset."
00:20:53 So again, goes into, we don't really know why or how
00:20:57 or the reason behind it, but this was a game
00:20:59 where it felt like Tatum played
00:21:02 with a little bit more purpose,
00:21:04 especially in that fourth quarter.
00:21:05 Now, he struggled in that first half.
00:21:08 What was it, like seven points or something like that?
00:21:12 The difference was- - But I do feel
00:21:14 like he was defying Brown a little bit there.
00:21:17 - Yeah, I just think, yeah, sure.
00:21:19 You could make that case for sure.
00:21:21 I mean, and we haven't even mentioned Brown tonight,
00:21:22 but 27 points for Brown, Tatum 21 from the field,
00:21:26 three of seven from three.
00:21:27 So Brown, again, with another strong night,
00:21:30 and he's probably been, I think we can all agree,
00:21:32 their most consistent player here as of late,
00:21:36 just doing, and he's also, and maybe we can get into this.
00:21:40 Brown has not been shy after games
00:21:45 calling the Celtics out on their BS, and he did so-
00:21:47 - At halftime tonight too, did you see his little
00:21:50 block by point interview?
00:21:52 Why don't you tell us that?
00:21:53 - They were in the lead, and they were asking him
00:21:55 about the half he had, I think 18 and a half,
00:21:57 he was playing well, and he's like,
00:21:58 "Yeah, but the defense is bad right now.
00:22:01 We gotta tighten up on Durant.
00:22:03 We gotta be tougher on that end."
00:22:05 They didn't exactly respond to that,
00:22:08 'cause Durant just kept sprinting into the second half.
00:22:11 But I like the mindset.
00:22:12 I mean, he called that Cavs game on Tuesday a mindset loss.
00:22:15 It wasn't just a slip up or an aberration or something.
00:22:18 And then last game, he even had some commentary
00:22:21 about the way Tatum played.
00:22:22 He can't just be taken out of the game-
00:22:24 - Interesting, right?
00:22:25 - Something to that effect.
00:22:26 So I love it.
00:22:28 They need some tough talk.
00:22:29 I think I overstated that going into the year
00:22:32 because they haven't had it for the most part,
00:22:34 and they've still been amazing.
00:22:36 But I do think it's necessary in moments,
00:22:38 especially in intense moments,
00:22:39 to be able to have that, the accountability internally.
00:22:43 It's not gonna be Joe.
00:22:45 We know that.
00:22:46 So it's gotta be a guy on the team,
00:22:47 and it's gotta be a guy on the team with stature,
00:22:49 'cause the smarts and grants of the world
00:22:50 are at the door.
00:22:52 So it's gotta be Brown and Tatum
00:22:54 being able to communicate with each other.
00:22:55 It doesn't have to be petty and snippy and through the media
00:23:00 but those guys do have to be on the same page.
00:23:02 And I thought they played well in that sense tonight.
00:23:04 They had a couple of passes to each other for some baskets.
00:23:07 They didn't quite take turns.
00:23:10 I thought the offense played within a good flow
00:23:12 in this game.
00:23:13 Like it just looked better offensively
00:23:15 for most of the game, even when they're missing shots.
00:23:17 It was a bad third quarter, drought.
00:23:20 But overall, I thought it was a functional
00:23:21 offensive performance for them.
00:23:23 They looked more like themselves
00:23:24 with the ball whipping around, different guys being involved.
00:23:27 And I love White being a big part of that too.
00:23:30 - Josue, I just want your opinion on just-
00:23:33 - I feel like that was the part
00:23:34 that we missed a lot in Denver, man.
00:23:36 Like I thought that was a great opportunity.
00:23:38 - He was non-existent.
00:23:39 - Yeah, he was non-existent,
00:23:41 but it's one of those spots where it's like,
00:23:43 how does he say, "Hey, it's my turn to cook."
00:23:45 You know what I mean?
00:23:46 Like it was hard for him to sort of get in,
00:23:48 jump into it, so to speak, right?
00:23:49 And I feel like not the case tonight.
00:23:52 Like he took the initiative and I love that
00:23:55 because I think this team is,
00:23:56 especially against a team like the Suns that like,
00:23:58 let's face it, defense is not their thing, right?
00:24:00 They don't want to go out there.
00:24:02 It's so hard for them to string together stops.
00:24:05 And White is the kind of guy
00:24:06 that makes defenses like that pay.
00:24:08 Like that's what he's about,
00:24:09 especially when you look at stretches
00:24:12 where you can tell they're really dialed in
00:24:14 on trying to slow down Brown and Tatum.
00:24:15 Like that's when he's able to jump in there
00:24:17 and guys make that extra pass and they find them.
00:24:19 So we saw that tonight, but man,
00:24:22 I was so happy for Al to finally make a three-pointer.
00:24:24 Like I just thought that was a big shot, such a big shot.
00:24:28 And you can just tell the look on his face was just like,
00:24:30 yes, like, okay, I still got it.
00:24:32 And of course-
00:24:33 - You wanna see 0 for six before that?
00:24:35 - 0 for six, dead in the corner, no one's near you.
00:24:39 He's like, I have to take this.
00:24:41 Didn't even think twice and lights out
00:24:43 like Jimmy's light right now, man.
00:24:44 - Hold on, hold on.
00:24:45 - That was it.
00:24:46 (laughs)
00:24:47 That was it.
00:24:48 That was technically the dagger after the fact,
00:24:50 but that was one of those like,
00:24:51 oh, okay, Phoenix is kind of in trouble now.
00:24:52 Whereas right before that, it's like, man,
00:24:55 this is almost anyone's game now.
00:24:56 Even though Slitz had a lead, it's a one possession game.
00:24:58 And you know, someone like Durant out there,
00:25:02 well over 40 points could have reached 50
00:25:05 if he had enough time.
00:25:07 It felt like it could have been one of those nights
00:25:08 where these two go into overtime.
00:25:10 But yeah, I mean, look,
00:25:12 that's the luxury of having guys
00:25:17 that can just step in there and hit some shots.
00:25:19 Drew Holiday, you can make that case for him.
00:25:21 You know, those back-to-back threes in Denver,
00:25:23 but obviously, you know, they had to,
00:25:25 it put them in place to complete a comeback,
00:25:27 but it fell short.
00:25:28 But tonight, it was the extra shot,
00:25:30 the extra passes that sealed off any hopes
00:25:33 of a Phoenix Suns comeback in the fourth.
00:25:35 - Definitely.
00:25:36 - Yeah.
00:25:37 - White's a big part of that.
00:25:38 I love the way he plays.
00:25:41 As dysfunctional as this offense can be at times,
00:25:43 he always makes the right play.
00:25:45 - Guys, I think Jimmy's messing with his Christmas tree
00:25:48 over there.
00:25:49 - I don't know what's going on with my ring light right now.
00:25:51 I'm going to just put it back.
00:25:53 - Yo, is your place haunted, bro?
00:25:55 - Hope that it works.
00:25:56 - Halloween, Halloween.
00:25:57 - My light just went out.
00:25:58 - Yeah.
00:25:59 - It just went out.
00:26:00 I couldn't get it back on.
00:26:01 It was flickering.
00:26:02 Nobody move.
00:26:03 - There's a ghost messing with you, man.
00:26:06 - Yo, I got the same setup here too.
00:26:07 Anything moves, it's just gonna all melt down.
00:26:10 - If you saw my setup, you would think I was.
00:26:13 (laughing)
00:26:15 - You already know I'm a joke,
00:26:16 but you would be able to confirm that I am a joke.
00:26:20 - Jimmy, what I feel-
00:26:22 - The setup is hanging by a thread.
00:26:24 This place is going to collapse at any moment.
00:26:26 - Jimmy, I feel like if they just gave White the ball
00:26:29 for the whole game, and I know that's not feasible.
00:26:31 I know that's not even the best option for them,
00:26:34 but I just feel like fewer things would go wrong.
00:26:37 And there are too many games where it feels like
00:26:40 if they gave it to him for three, four possessions,
00:26:42 at least things would go better.
00:26:44 Yeah, he never turns the ball over.
00:26:46 Could have had like 11 assists in this game
00:26:48 if a couple other shots went down.
00:26:50 - He knew when like three possessions go by
00:26:52 and he didn't touch the ball.
00:26:53 - It looked like there was a concerted effort
00:26:55 to at least get him more involved
00:26:56 coming off the Denver game here, and it worked amazingly.
00:26:59 - Right, it's 'cause of what happened in Denver.
00:27:00 I really believe that, especially in that fourth quarter.
00:27:03 It was just non-existent.
00:27:05 - It's White and it's holiday too.
00:27:08 I mean, and we've said this over and over and over, guys.
00:27:11 It's a blessing to have these two guards.
00:27:14 You probably have like the smartest,
00:27:16 most reliable backcourt in the NBA, right?
00:27:19 Just like guys who just, I mean, yeah,
00:27:21 you're gonna get the turnover
00:27:23 and Holiday's been guilty of it a couple times.
00:27:24 - Right, but for the most part,
00:27:25 they're very responsible, that's true.
00:27:26 - You just feel confident when those guys are in the game
00:27:29 just playing their style of basketball.
00:27:31 So like, let them do, this is why I always say,
00:27:33 and I don't wanna get into it,
00:27:34 but like let's stop trying to force point Tatum
00:27:37 and point Brown and point this guy and point that guy.
00:27:40 You already have two really, really, really elite guards
00:27:43 on your team that can do that.
00:27:45 So why don't you just let them do that,
00:27:47 talking about Holiday and White,
00:27:48 and let Tatum and Brown do all the other things
00:27:51 that they do well and stop trying to force a square peg
00:27:54 into a round hole.
00:27:55 If we can stop doing that and let these guys,
00:27:59 you know, play to their strengths, we'll be good.
00:28:02 We really will be good.
00:28:03 So to your point, guys,
00:28:04 it's good to see Derek White being more involved.
00:28:06 You know, give him the ball, let him use his big brain,
00:28:10 his big basketball brain,
00:28:11 and put his guys in position to do what they do best.
00:28:14 It's like, that's exactly really what it needs to be.
00:28:16 And Holiday's gonna do the same thing,
00:28:17 and he's gonna be the guy on the defensive end
00:28:19 as best as he can.
00:28:20 And again, tonight, Durant's gonna cook anybody,
00:28:23 and that just happens on some nights.
00:28:24 I mean, these are the best of the best.
00:28:26 Great offense beats great defense.
00:28:28 I've been saying that since day one,
00:28:29 and that's never gonna change,
00:28:31 especially when you're seven feet.
00:28:33 There's, he's the 1% of the 1% Durant.
00:28:37 You know, he's got the height and he's got the skill
00:28:39 and the athleticism, which is rare
00:28:41 for somebody at that height.
00:28:42 It just doesn't happen.
00:28:43 So you're gonna get those nights
00:28:45 where he goes into Kevin Durant mode,
00:28:46 and it's gonna happen all the way up
00:28:48 until the day he retires.
00:28:49 It's just what's gonna happen.
00:28:50 - Well, this is the debate we had after the last game too,
00:28:53 and our guy Ben there just said it.
00:28:55 Like, the extra pressure those guys get,
00:28:58 that's why you go through them.
00:28:59 And I think that's a mindset that went even back
00:29:01 to the May days.
00:29:02 Like, he really wanted to get that going for that reason.
00:29:05 But I think what we're talking about more
00:29:07 is those big moments, like late in a game,
00:29:09 like, you know, when you're down a couple possessions
00:29:12 or things are going wrong, or late in a game.
00:29:15 And we've talked about those issues, Jimmy,
00:29:17 coming out of that Cleveland game.
00:29:19 That's where you need to involve your best playmakers.
00:29:22 And Missoula as a coach needs to have a bigger,
00:29:26 you know, thumb on the scale with the offense,
00:29:28 just in terms of manipulating it and getting guys involved
00:29:31 and making some more unique, creative plays.
00:29:34 I thought he had some good plays at a time out in this one.
00:29:37 And a lot of that sometimes comes down to involving
00:29:40 some of those playmakers better.
00:29:41 Even Al in this one,
00:29:42 I think we both said just way after that last game,
00:29:45 just having him out there a little bit more
00:29:47 and having him in the pocket
00:29:49 and having him just touch the ball,
00:29:52 good things are gonna happen when that happens.
00:29:54 And too often in that game, he even, you know,
00:29:56 I'd consider him among their most reliable playmakers,
00:29:58 Jimmy, even though he doesn't get his shot off
00:30:01 quite the way he used to and draw defense,
00:30:04 but he's gonna make good decisions
00:30:05 within the flow of the offense.
00:30:06 I don't think it's any mistake that they had
00:30:08 that small lineup out there tonight.
00:30:10 Brown and White and Holiday playing a ton
00:30:13 and then Horford at that five spot.
00:30:15 And even Coronet, who I think moves the ball really well,
00:30:18 the ball was just zipping around.
00:30:19 Like that great alley you played a Coronet,
00:30:22 you had guys falling in different directions.
00:30:25 Al kind of got in the pocket sometimes
00:30:27 and kicked the ball out.
00:30:27 Holiday did too.
00:30:29 Even Tatum, like Tatum doesn't have to be on the ball
00:30:32 to get touches and make plays.
00:30:34 Like he can roll to the rim and score
00:30:36 and pass out of that spot.
00:30:37 So it's just about being less predictable.
00:30:40 And I know like their mindset this year at times,
00:30:43 Jimmy has been, you know, we got this set,
00:30:45 we're killing this mismatch,
00:30:47 we're just gonna do it over and over again
00:30:48 till the defense changes.
00:30:49 And that's great when it's working,
00:30:52 but sometimes it leads to droughts
00:30:54 and you have to be able to, you know, call a play
00:30:56 or switch up your alignment
00:30:59 or just involve different playmakers,
00:31:00 even if it's not necessarily going out of mismatch.
00:31:03 Facts, my dog.
00:31:06 Okay, it's past the 30 minute mark of the show.
00:31:10 I dragged this out as long as I possibly could,
00:31:13 but the chat's clamoring for it, Bobby.
00:31:18 And it's time to talk, Luke.
00:31:21 I mean, there's not much-
00:31:23 So, great game, hold on, let me just,
00:31:25 okay, perfect.
00:31:28 We are in Cornet cam of everybody.
00:31:30 Yo, you got an intro or something?
00:31:33 We are in Cornet cam.
00:31:35 You should have Luke just flash across
00:31:36 like one of these, I guess.
00:31:38 I gotta find the third person.
00:31:41 I don't even know where the-
00:31:42 Every celebratory move-
00:31:45 I'm gonna fix this for us, but anyways, yeah.
00:31:48 There's not much more to say.
00:31:49 There was a really good game.
00:31:51 It was a good game.
00:31:52 Yo, why are you staring at him like that?
00:31:53 Wait, no, go back to that, put that back.
00:31:54 Cornet cam is back.
00:31:56 Okay, cool, we're good.
00:31:57 This way you go.
00:31:58 Look at Bobby's face.
00:32:00 Bobby's locked on, he's looking right at him.
00:32:02 He's like, "Don't make me look bad."
00:32:03 That's me watching the game.
00:32:05 I'm just all eyes on Cornet.
00:32:07 The broadcast-
00:32:08 Luke's got the whole,
00:32:09 he's got the Zanis baking class under him.
00:32:13 Yeah, but that's Bobby's face
00:32:15 during Cornet minutes, yo.
00:32:17 He's like-
00:32:19 Bobby is analyzing.
00:32:20 Yeah, Bobby's really locked on.
00:32:22 All right, what do we got?
00:32:23 He's like, "Do you want me to steal your minutes?"
00:32:26 Actually, real quick, Bobby,
00:32:27 before we get into Luke,
00:32:28 we do have a Missoula quote on Luke I'll read.
00:32:30 Luke from Joe,
00:32:32 "Luke Cornet is one of the best
00:32:33 "at our defensive system.
00:32:35 "He's got an innate ability
00:32:37 "to communicate our defensive system,
00:32:38 "but also make the right read defensively.
00:32:41 "It's an underappreciated skill that Luke has
00:32:44 "to be able to do that,
00:32:45 "and that's why we trust him."
00:32:48 Look at that.
00:32:49 That's from Coach tonight.
00:32:51 That's the perfect word, underappreciated,
00:32:53 because this chat and these fans in general,
00:32:57 obsess over what he can't do.
00:32:59 Like he might miss a rebound,
00:33:01 or maybe he drops a pass or something,
00:33:03 or maybe a guy beats him
00:33:05 on the defensive end in a switch,
00:33:08 but they're not talking about him having
00:33:10 masterful control over the way they play offense.
00:33:14 I like just all the different sets,
00:33:15 all the different reads they want to make.
00:33:17 He has them down.
00:33:18 It's a great dribble handoff player, great passer.
00:33:21 His offensive rebounding has come a long way,
00:33:23 so he, as I've said it from the start,
00:33:25 since they acquired Tillman,
00:33:26 is just a much better offensive option than Tillman,
00:33:29 and we saw that here tonight,
00:33:31 after Tillman really struggled on that end last game.
00:33:34 And then on defense, he's a good positional defender,
00:33:37 and in a game like this,
00:33:38 you could put him on David Roddy,
00:33:40 could put him on a guy like Boal Boal,
00:33:42 and I know Boal got a couple flip shots in over him,
00:33:45 but he's able to position himself below the rim,
00:33:48 and if a guy's not able to hit shots from three over him,
00:33:52 he can really disrupt things in the paint,
00:33:53 and I thought they built up a nice lead,
00:33:56 nice flow with him out there,
00:33:58 and I know he dropped a couple of rebounds
00:34:00 that went the other way,
00:34:01 but then he made it right back up with the alley-oop.
00:34:03 He blocked Beal.
00:34:04 Like, he's always gonna have a nice block every game.
00:34:07 And this is your third center, Jimmy.
00:34:09 Like, what are people expecting out of your third center
00:34:12 who makes $1 million?
00:34:14 You're not gonna find anyone close to this
00:34:16 for that price, for that role,
00:34:18 and he, over three years, has mastered that role.
00:34:21 So is he gonna post up and score a ton?
00:34:23 No.
00:34:24 Is he gonna score 14 points every night?
00:34:27 No, so I'm not even worried about that in this game,
00:34:30 but every night, he's just gonna give you a nice rotation,
00:34:33 and I think even in the playoffs,
00:34:34 if they wanna play three bigs,
00:34:37 he could give you one good rotation in a playoff series,
00:34:40 and luckily, you have two bigs in front of him.
00:34:42 We're ultra-reliable,
00:34:43 but we're getting to the point, Jimmy,
00:34:44 with his improvements,
00:34:46 that if Horford was down for a game in the playoffs,
00:34:48 or even, God forbid, Porzingis goes down for a game,
00:34:53 you might not be screwed. - Knock on wood.
00:34:55 - You might not be screwed,
00:34:57 'cause he's just that good playing the way they play.
00:35:00 - Put it on his tombstone.
00:35:02 We might not be screwed.
00:35:03 (both laughing)
00:35:06 - That's all I'm saying.
00:35:09 Why do we obsess over the things that we do?
00:35:11 - Is it extremely matchup-based, though, Bobby?
00:35:14 - He's matchup-based.
00:35:15 I've always said that.
00:35:16 - He couldn't sniff the court in Denver?
00:35:19 - I think they were just trying things in that game,
00:35:22 and honestly, Joe Sway,
00:35:23 it might've gone better if they played him.
00:35:25 - Joe Sway, playing Cornette or not.
00:35:31 - I just feel like it was one of those great opportunities
00:35:34 for Tillman, but maybe--
00:35:36 - Right, I had no problem with them playing him.
00:35:38 - Why not try both guys?
00:35:41 I mean, this is your last chance.
00:35:42 - Oh, you want some double big, Tillman, Cornette?
00:35:45 - No, not at the same time.
00:35:46 Let me be very clear.
00:35:47 But like, let's see how one guy looks,
00:35:51 and then let's see how the other guy looks
00:35:52 if it's not as effective that time,
00:35:54 because this is your opportunity to do that.
00:35:56 I just find it strange that Luke goes from having
00:35:59 a great game tonight,
00:36:00 but previously couldn't sniff the court.
00:36:01 I don't know.
00:36:02 And you're saying, "Oh, we might not be screwed."
00:36:04 Well, it's like, if Missoula is that confident in him,
00:36:08 and it sounds like he is
00:36:09 based on what he said about him tonight,
00:36:12 why is he getting DNP CDs?
00:36:13 Is he really that much of a matchup-based guy?
00:36:17 - I think that was just experiment for that night,
00:36:20 letting Tillman get extended run.
00:36:22 Mavericks game, similar.
00:36:24 Like, you have four centers right now,
00:36:26 so you're gonna have to find spots to put them in.
00:36:28 And the tough part, Jimmy,
00:36:29 is in that Cleveland game on Tuesday,
00:36:34 I thought that double big look with him and Al
00:36:36 really struggled.
00:36:37 Like, the offense was just flat with those guys out there.
00:36:39 They were able to ignore those guys too much.
00:36:41 And that's really a big reason why that Cavs run
00:36:44 to win the game got jump-started.
00:36:45 The Celtics just went stale for too many minutes there.
00:36:49 - I think it's the same deal.
00:36:50 - Somebody woke up from his Saturday night,
00:36:55 little late night nap.
00:36:57 John Zanis is in the chat, everybody.
00:36:59 You know he's watching us in bed.
00:37:01 - That's not the real John Zanis.
00:37:03 - No, it is.
00:37:03 It's got the, I think it is.
00:37:05 It's gotta be.
00:37:06 - That's the blue check mark of YouTube.
00:37:09 - Nobody wants to be John Zanis,
00:37:13 so there's nobody pretending to be John Zanis,
00:37:16 except John Zanis.
00:37:18 - Someone's pretending to be his pies,
00:37:20 but that's, yeah, that's not fun.
00:37:22 - That's a different story.
00:37:23 We'll take that.
00:37:24 - How do you feel about Cornette Jimmy?
00:37:28 - How I've always felt, Bobby, it's just...
00:37:31 - Thanks for being consistent.
00:37:33 - To your point, he's their third center.
00:37:37 And the where I disagree with you, Bobby,
00:37:39 is that like, I don't really want to see a whole lot of him
00:37:43 in the playoffs because theoretically,
00:37:44 the rotation's going to go down to like,
00:37:47 seven or eight guys at most.
00:37:49 - Yeah, and I'm fine with that.
00:37:52 - And that tells me, like you said, somebody might be hurt.
00:37:54 So I don't really care one way or the other.
00:37:56 I mean, I think he is who he is.
00:37:58 He's your third center.
00:37:59 He played well tonight.
00:38:00 He actually looked athletic out there.
00:38:01 I mean, I forget who threw it to him,
00:38:03 but he caught like a legit alley-oop tonight
00:38:05 and like actually like brought the ball over and saved it.
00:38:08 - He looked strong too.
00:38:09 Remember, Joe Sway, that offensive rebound
00:38:11 he grabbed in traffic against the Warriors?
00:38:13 And you're seeing him in more and more match-ups
00:38:15 where you think he'd really be screwed,
00:38:17 able to survive out there.
00:38:18 So again, you're thin, Jimmy.
00:38:20 - I feel like he heard that talk, man.
00:38:22 People being like, "Tillman's going to get more muscle."
00:38:25 That physicality.
00:38:26 - You heard my question?
00:38:29 - I was just going to say, Bobby,
00:38:30 don't you dare ask Luke if the DNPCD
00:38:34 lit a little bit of a fire under him
00:38:36 because you're going to get Celtics Twitter all up in arms.
00:38:38 - Isn't that amazing too?
00:38:40 - That was the political response, though.
00:38:43 - They can't stand Cornette.
00:38:45 - Yeah, but they're on the dive board.
00:38:46 - But when I asked Cornette a tough question,
00:38:48 it's hell for me.
00:38:50 So I didn't get that, but I've been,
00:38:53 and this is why I felt.
00:38:55 - The Banton stat line is crazy.
00:38:58 - Yeah.
00:39:00 - That's fair.
00:39:01 - Yeah, Tatum gave us his Banton impression tonight.
00:39:06 Best Banton impression he could give.
00:39:08 - Yeah, he did.
00:39:09 - We're going to have a lot of Banton talk on Monday,
00:39:11 so I think we'll save that.
00:39:12 - Are we? Oh God, I'm going to have to miss that show.
00:39:15 - You're going to want to miss that show, Jimmy.
00:39:18 - That's a late one, right?
00:39:19 That's a, that's going to be a late one.
00:39:21 - That's a 10 30.
00:39:22 - I don't think I'll be on that one.
00:39:23 - This is the, I saw Brogdon's been out
00:39:26 since like early February.
00:39:28 - That's shocking.
00:39:30 - Shaden Sharp's been out since early January
00:39:33 and they started a group of players
00:39:36 you probably don't know four out of five last game.
00:39:39 Well, you know Banton because he played here,
00:39:40 but yeah, that's the kind of lineup
00:39:44 their blazers are running.
00:39:44 But the rest is going to start here.
00:39:47 And luckily you'll be able to have your little
00:39:49 cornet Tillman battle over those next two games.
00:39:52 And you'll be able to see some of the guys
00:39:54 deeper on the bench, get bigger roles,
00:39:55 because I think it's officially time, Jimmy,
00:39:59 for rest, experimenting,
00:40:04 and seeing what you have in some of these depth guys.
00:40:07 And that could include Jaden Springer.
00:40:10 I know JD Davidson's on this trip too.
00:40:13 Do you want to try him out a little bit?
00:40:15 If you're really sitting a lot of guys
00:40:16 in one of these games down the stretch of the season?
00:40:18 - No.
00:40:18 - Probably not.
00:40:21 - But we'll see.
00:40:21 - Not really.
00:40:22 - Yeah, probably not.
00:40:23 - But it's that time of year.
00:40:25 I think this race is over in the East.
00:40:28 I think the games are starting to dry up
00:40:30 where you're trying to prove yourself here
00:40:32 and you've gotten through them decently.
00:40:34 And that schedule and end the year
00:40:36 is going to be a real slog here.
00:40:37 So I'm glad to have these games while we have them,
00:40:40 but it begins Monday.
00:40:41 Blazers, Jazz, even next weekend, the Wizards.
00:40:46 Yeah, get ready.
00:40:50 We got all our big games right in a row here.
00:40:53 - Bobby said some chumps are coming in.
00:40:55 - We got some big games.
00:40:56 And before those big games happen, guys,
00:41:01 you're going to want to download prize picks
00:41:04 because it's going to make those big games
00:41:06 even more fun to watch.
00:41:08 And you can join in on the fun
00:41:11 that prize picks allows you to have
00:41:13 while watching these games.
00:41:14 So if you get online, download the app.
00:41:17 You want to download the app today
00:41:19 and use the code CLNS for a first deposit match
00:41:23 of up to $100.
00:41:25 So, I mean, it's 100% match up to a hundred.
00:41:29 So it only makes sense to do a hundred.
00:41:31 Get that up there.
00:41:32 We keep the banner up there, guys.
00:41:34 But what is prize picks?
00:41:35 Prize picks is the largest daily fantasy sports platform
00:41:38 in North America.
00:41:40 The earliest and most exciting way to play
00:41:42 daily fantasy sports.
00:41:43 It's just you against the numbers.
00:41:45 Instead of battling thousands of other players,
00:41:48 including pros and sharks,
00:41:49 because we all know that those guys
00:41:51 have all the analytics and everything.
00:41:52 You pick more than or less than
00:41:55 on two to six player stat projections
00:41:59 and watch the winnings roll in.
00:42:00 So if you think, you know, you get a number,
00:42:02 let's say it's Tatum and the number is 30.
00:42:06 You think it's going to go higher than that?
00:42:06 You think it's going to go lower than that?
00:42:08 You use your best judgment and you go from there.
00:42:10 So even though football season's over,
00:42:12 it's all about basketball.
00:42:14 It's whether it's NBA, it could be NCAA.
00:42:16 We've got tournament basketball coming up here, guys.
00:42:19 And you just get on the excitement with it.
00:42:22 It's America's number one fantasy sports app.
00:42:24 You can turn your hoops knowledge into serious cash.
00:42:28 And you can also play against people like Meek Mill
00:42:31 and Sugar Sean O'Malley.
00:42:33 Go to the community plays under the promos tab
00:42:37 of the app to view entries from some of the biggest names
00:42:40 in the prize pick community each week.
00:42:43 So I'm having a lot of fun with it.
00:42:46 I can't say that I'm good enough yet
00:42:50 to give my tips and tricks out and my strategies, guys,
00:42:54 but I'm starting to learn, you know,
00:42:57 what to look for with these numbers.
00:42:59 And I'm starting to, okay, why is it this number today?
00:43:03 Like what's going into this?
00:43:04 - That's the key.
00:43:06 - Yeah, and then I, you know,
00:43:07 my brain starts to go into overdrive,
00:43:10 which is typically a bad thing,
00:43:12 and I screw the whole thing up.
00:43:13 But if you're not like me, that's good news
00:43:15 because you'll be able to figure out, you know, and it's fun.
00:43:19 And again, the best part is you're not going up against
00:43:21 some, you know, guy who's, you know,
00:43:25 got the analytics and the numbers
00:43:26 and he's crunching them in front of your face
00:43:28 and you're going to automatically lose.
00:43:29 So anyways, that's prize picks, guys.
00:43:31 Go download the app.
00:43:32 - Don't think too hard, just pick, you know,
00:43:34 that's the way to do it.
00:43:35 - 100% deposit match with the promo code CLNS
00:43:38 and join in on the fun with us.
00:43:41 Okay, who haven't we hit on?
00:43:44 We've hit on Luke, we've hit on Tatum,
00:43:45 we've hit on Brown, we've hit on Derek White.
00:43:48 Is there anything left in this one specifically, guys,
00:43:52 or do you want to look towards something different?
00:43:54 - That would leave holiday.
00:43:58 - And here he is, we've got the holiday stat line
00:44:01 right here, 15 points, five seven from the field,
00:44:04 a few three pointers tonight.
00:44:06 - Solid game. - The three is solid game.
00:44:08 - Yeah, just, this is a Derek White,
00:44:10 I mean, it's a true holiday game.
00:44:12 I mean, 15, 20 points, kind of like where he's at.
00:44:17 - With the threes, yeah.
00:44:18 - I feel like the offense is-
00:44:19 - Started to rant quite a bit.
00:44:20 He had a tough time there.
00:44:22 - Yeah, did the best he could,
00:44:23 but again, it was one of those games, right?
00:44:25 - Right. - I mean, Durant.
00:44:26 - I just want to say this about Durant.
00:44:30 I don't know how it's gonna happen.
00:44:33 I don't know how it's gonna happen.
00:44:35 I don't know at what point in his career it'll happen.
00:44:37 - Oh, he's gonna be in Boston?
00:44:38 - I just need him in Boston, even for one year.
00:44:41 - Wow. - This guy, man.
00:44:44 - Is that your prediction? - To be honest, no,
00:44:46 it's not a prediction, it's just something I wanna see happen
00:44:48 at some point. - Just call it a prediction.
00:44:50 We'll clip it and we'll post it on social.
00:44:52 - We can do that. - We can do that.
00:44:53 - We'll clip it and we'll post it on social tomorrow.
00:44:55 - We can. - Is that a prediction?
00:44:57 Bobby, what's your prediction?
00:44:58 - I feel like he will at some point, maybe not.
00:45:03 - Durant? - Who?
00:45:04 - Maybe not in the near future. - We need to clip this
00:45:06 for social. - Yeah, who's gonna win?
00:45:07 - Bobby, what's your prediction?
00:45:09 - I feel like the way he's moved teams in his career,
00:45:12 you could see Durant in Boston. - Who?
00:45:13 Bobby, we're trying to clip this.
00:45:15 - Ooh. - Okay, let's try another one.
00:45:16 Wait, what's your prediction?
00:45:18 - He said it already. - Do that again?
00:45:21 Try it one more time. - I don't-
00:45:22 - Bobby, what's your prediction?
00:45:23 - I don't feel great about it 'cause he's getting older.
00:45:25 He's even talked about not wanting to play for super long.
00:45:28 I think he's even shot past that.
00:45:30 - We're trying to clip this. - Durant.
00:45:32 - Oh, Durant, what's your prediction though?
00:45:34 - Wow, what about him?
00:45:36 - I feel like he's gonna play in Boston one day
00:45:39 and it might not be next year.
00:45:41 - Wow. - Might not be in his prime,
00:45:44 but I'd love to see it.
00:45:45 Especially, I mean, he's still playing on,
00:45:48 he's still playing on like the old,
00:45:50 the old Durant. - Maybe based on something
00:45:51 you've heard, maybe you think like some,
00:45:53 you just have- - What do you think
00:45:54 about it, Jimmy? - Knowledge of the situation,
00:45:56 you think Durant's coming to Boston.
00:45:58 - But Jimmy's acting is cracking me up.
00:46:00 You guys did like three takes on it.
00:46:02 - Clip it, clip that social.
00:46:04 No, I think it's per source.
00:46:06 I'm gonna say that's per source.
00:46:08 - It's a dream.
00:46:09 You talked about the '07 draft, Jimmy.
00:46:11 He could have been here then.
00:46:13 Then you go back to the free agency of 2016.
00:46:16 It looked like they were up the next few months.
00:46:16 - Yeah, I was gonna say, let's go back there
00:46:18 because if you're Durant, you know,
00:46:20 I mean, let's face it,
00:46:21 he probably doesn't need to be here.
00:46:22 - We know Tatum wants it.
00:46:24 We know Tatum wants it.
00:46:25 - Well, no, I was gonna say,
00:46:26 if you go back to that meeting that happened on the vineyard
00:46:29 and with Kelly O'Lantern and-
00:46:30 - I know, like, shit.
00:46:32 - Then you have the summer 2022.
00:46:34 - Well, no, my thing is, if you go back to that,
00:46:37 I don't think Durant would look back and say,
00:46:40 man, I regret it.
00:46:41 I should have went to Boston then.
00:46:42 But he did get that nice talk with Tom Brady
00:46:46 in the city of Boston and all.
00:46:49 You wonder that's still in the back of his head
00:46:51 when he's thinking about his next move,
00:46:53 if that ever happens, but it wouldn't surprise me.
00:46:56 I know-
00:46:57 - I wonder if Phoenix is the last stop.
00:46:59 - Tatum could convince him.
00:47:00 - You just never know where he's at.
00:47:03 - It wouldn't surprise me.
00:47:04 - It's amazing.
00:47:05 - It wouldn't surprise me if it's not his last stop.
00:47:06 It really wouldn't bother me.
00:47:07 - My only concern is-
00:47:08 - I know, it's amazing how the Warriors-
00:47:09 - It's CBA.
00:47:10 I feel like the CBA just makes everything so complicated.
00:47:12 I'm sure it's gonna prevent it from happening in some way.
00:47:16 - Right.
00:47:16 - I don't know.
00:47:17 It's like the money's not gonna work.
00:47:18 Like he's-
00:47:19 - Or he has to take a crazy pay cut or something.
00:47:20 - Yeah, well, obviously he's gonna have to take a pay cut.
00:47:22 You know what I mean?
00:47:23 Like it's-
00:47:24 - Yeah.
00:47:25 - It would be cool though.
00:47:26 I kind of like, I've always felt like it was,
00:47:29 there's been so many pump fakes that like,
00:47:31 oh, this might be a reality.
00:47:33 This might be a reality.
00:47:33 - 2022, Jimmy.
00:47:35 And we had a great debate that summer.
00:47:37 And looking back on it, I know John was a no back then
00:47:40 and he might've actually been right.
00:47:41 'Cause it would have been like brown, white,
00:47:44 three picks at least.
00:47:46 I would have just spent so much going out the door
00:47:48 and he's had injury concerns.
00:47:50 He's had some gains.
00:47:51 - I don't know.
00:47:52 I think John actually was wrong.
00:47:53 I think a lot of people would now,
00:47:55 knowing what they know, do it because-
00:47:57 - Trade white and brown for him?
00:47:59 - Was white part of that conversation?
00:48:02 I think it was a brown.
00:48:03 - He was in the offer, right?
00:48:05 - He was in the offer.
00:48:06 - Offer that was reported.
00:48:07 - The godfather offer.
00:48:07 - That makes it tough.
00:48:09 That definitely makes it tough, but-
00:48:11 - And what he's become has been-
00:48:13 - The hesitation.
00:48:15 The hesitation was more so like,
00:48:16 we don't know if Durant's ever gonna be Durant again.
00:48:20 And I think it's safe to say that he was
00:48:22 and he still can be.
00:48:23 - Remember how bad he was in that playoff series?
00:48:26 - Yeah.
00:48:27 - Well, yeah, that's right, Jimmy.
00:48:28 Everyone was afraid about the epic drop-off,
00:48:31 which happens to guys like Durant.
00:48:33 - And credit to Brown too,
00:48:35 who just leveled up in an incredible way
00:48:38 to where he's gonna be a back-to-back all NBA guy.
00:48:40 And we didn't know he had that in him then either.
00:48:43 You worried about-
00:48:44 - Is that true?
00:48:44 Wait a second, wait a second, wait a second.
00:48:46 - I think so.
00:48:47 - I think Brown's gonna be an all NBA guy.
00:48:50 - He's averaging what, 29 a game over his last-
00:48:53 - Automatic?
00:48:54 - I think he's pretty friendly in there.
00:48:56 - I don't think Brown isn't...
00:48:58 No, I disagree.
00:48:59 Dude, there's a lot of talent in the NBA.
00:49:01 It's not really even a knock on Brown.
00:49:03 I mean, there's just a lot of talent in the NBA these days.
00:49:06 - Yeah, but this first year was on-
00:49:07 - I would hit the pause button on just Otto Brown's
00:49:10 an all NBA guy this year, for sure.
00:49:13 - He's shooting better than last year.
00:49:15 He's scoring a little less, obviously.
00:49:17 - He's having a really good season.
00:49:19 And as of late, he's definitely turned things around.
00:49:20 - Turnovers are down, assists are up.
00:49:22 - I think the record is a big part of it too, Jimmy.
00:49:24 I mean, Celtics has been, they're just chilling at number one.
00:49:27 - So what is he, third?
00:49:28 - Yes.
00:49:32 - All third team, you say?
00:49:34 - I'd say so.
00:49:34 - So if you're third, it's hard to be like,
00:49:38 oh, he's Otto third.
00:49:39 'Cause you're already saying that he's the last,
00:49:42 he's in the last group.
00:49:43 - But he could be second.
00:49:44 - I'm not saying he's gonna have a bad,
00:49:46 I'm not saying he's having a bad season at all.
00:49:48 He's having a great season.
00:49:49 And to be honest,
00:49:49 and I said this at the beginning of the show,
00:49:51 he's been their most consistent guy recently.
00:49:53 So I think as of late, Bobby,
00:49:55 he's probably done a lot to get back into that
00:49:59 realm of all NBA.
00:50:01 But there's been points this season
00:50:03 where I would say he wasn't.
00:50:05 - This year is gonna be weird with that too,
00:50:07 'cause there's no positions,
00:50:10 which is gonna be strange compared to-
00:50:12 - Yeah, I guess the injuries,
00:50:13 I can't figure it out.
00:50:14 - Games played, all that.
00:50:15 - I think if I had a bet, I'd be there.
00:50:19 The games played, it's gonna eliminate some guys,
00:50:22 but there'll be more guys involved
00:50:24 because there's no positions.
00:50:27 Like usually you're squeezing in guards
00:50:29 and now every guard's gonna be involved
00:50:31 that you think is great.
00:50:32 So like, is De'Aaron Fox in the mix with Brown?
00:50:35 Is, you know, I'm trying to think of another name.
00:50:38 - What about Curry?
00:50:39 I'm gonna just toss Curry out there.
00:50:41 - I don't know if he's gonna make the games played.
00:50:45 - Yeah, he might be on the-
00:50:48 - Let's see what he's at in terms of games played.
00:50:50 He's 59, so he'll get there.
00:50:53 Yeah, and you gotta consider him, certainly.
00:50:57 So he's another guy.
00:50:58 - Yeah, I don't-
00:50:59 - So you can just throw unlimited guards
00:51:01 into the mix, Booker, Brunson.
00:51:03 - Wow, look at this.
00:51:05 This guy's just like, boom.
00:51:07 Jimmy Discano has always been a Brown Bear.
00:51:09 I would say that's not true at all.
00:51:10 - Edwards.
00:51:11 - Go check the tapes.
00:51:13 - There's a lot of guards you can throw in there.
00:51:15 Hal Baron's not gonna make it.
00:51:16 - Run some clips of me just giving Brown all his flowers
00:51:21 'cause there are tons of them out there.
00:51:22 - Jimmy said, "Yo, Ahmed, go through every episode
00:51:25 we ever done and find some clips."
00:51:26 - Personally send them to whoever that commenter was.
00:51:30 - Right, no, no, no, let's get this on the show
00:51:31 before we wrap up.
00:51:32 - Yeah, do that right now.
00:51:34 - No pressure.
00:51:35 - We can't say enough good things about Brown this year.
00:51:38 And that's why we're gonna have that debate going forward,
00:51:41 like who stays on this roster and the money and all that.
00:51:45 And I think he needs to stay.
00:51:47 It's not a seamless fit between him and Brown.
00:51:50 You have to really have other guys there
00:51:53 who can make it work between them.
00:51:54 And Borzingas has been a key for sure this year as his white.
00:51:57 But I feel like these nights, Jimmy,
00:52:00 where Tatum doesn't quite have it
00:52:02 or there's extra pressure on Tatum,
00:52:03 like on Thursday against Denver,
00:52:06 his ability to just take advantage of all the other guys
00:52:09 who are left behind that defensive coverage
00:52:13 has made him so consistent.
00:52:14 And he's starting to thrive in that role.
00:52:16 He's accepting that role.
00:52:17 Like, I don't think he's a guy anymore
00:52:19 who feels like he needs to run the team
00:52:21 and get all the shots.
00:52:22 He takes the shots he gets and he makes them.
00:52:24 And you can gripe about the free throws
00:52:27 and the turnovers and all the rest.
00:52:29 But man, just the forcefulness of his game.
00:52:31 He was so good in that Denver game, Jimmy.
00:52:34 It would have been a blowout without him.
00:52:37 - Oh, I know.
00:52:37 - And you can say that about so many games.
00:52:40 - Oh no, I mean, listen, Bobby, I agree.
00:52:42 - Not to mention the leadership
00:52:43 we talked about earlier in the show.
00:52:45 - But is that something, again, if we're talking about,
00:52:48 if you're a Celtics fan
00:52:49 or if you're a consumer of Celtics basketball,
00:52:51 you know how Brown's been able to affect this team.
00:52:56 But from a national landscape, I'm just saying,
00:52:58 is he gonna be a top 15 player on a national scale?
00:53:02 I think that's a fair question to ask.
00:53:04 I'm not saying that it's a yes or a no,
00:53:06 but there's a lot of people who are gonna not know,
00:53:10 like, oh yeah, remember Jalen Brown's effect
00:53:13 against the, you know, in that Nuggets game
00:53:16 that the Celtics lost?
00:53:17 No, I don't think that's gonna really go
00:53:18 into anybody's like voting.
00:53:20 - No, it's gonna come down to numbers.
00:53:21 It's gonna come down to-
00:53:22 - You got it, it's gonna come down to numbers.
00:53:23 Yeah, absolutely.
00:53:24 And again, it's not really, it's not meant,
00:53:27 I'm sure it sounds like it's not meant
00:53:29 to be a slight at Brown,
00:53:30 but there's just a lot of talent in the NBA.
00:53:31 And if it's positionless now,
00:53:33 you now have to be a top 15 player in the NBA.
00:53:35 And that's just-
00:53:37 - Yeah, and I'm less concerned about that
00:53:39 than him being part of the dynamic in the future.
00:53:42 - Conversation topic for sure.
00:53:43 And they're gonna have a lot of,
00:53:44 they're gonna have big decisions to make moving forward.
00:53:47 I think a lot of that's gonna depend on,
00:53:49 or at least a good chunk of that's gonna depend
00:53:51 on what happens this season.
00:53:52 Are they gonna win the title or are they not?
00:53:54 If they don't, if they don't-
00:53:55 - And how does it look?
00:53:56 - Yeah, how does it look?
00:53:58 Who's getting the blame?
00:53:59 You know, like what happened for them to not win
00:54:02 if that is the case?
00:54:03 Or vice versa, what happened for them to win?
00:54:06 If Jalen Brown carries them to the freaking championship,
00:54:09 which he very well might.
00:54:10 And actually all the people who wanna hate on me,
00:54:13 if you go back and look at my bold predictions,
00:54:15 I predicted the Celtics to win the whole thing.
00:54:17 And I said, "Jalen Brown is your finals MVP."
00:54:20 (all laughing)
00:54:21 Everyone can suck it.
00:54:23 Everybody can just suck it, okay?
00:54:25 (all laughing)
00:54:27 As far as I'm concerned, Joe Sway.
00:54:29 - Jimmy, how do you feel?
00:54:31 - Let's be honest.
00:54:32 - How do you feel about Joe Sway?
00:54:33 - Compared to last year,
00:54:35 we haven't been as critical with Jalen.
00:54:36 And that's a good thing.
00:54:37 I mean, that obviously means he's trending
00:54:40 in the right direction, especially after-
00:54:42 - He's making you feel good about the contract, Joe Sway.
00:54:44 And everyone was freaking out about the contract.
00:54:45 - I was gonna say, especially after the contract
00:54:47 and all the talk, and, "Oh, is this guy really
00:54:49 the richest guy in the NBA?"
00:54:51 Even though that conversation's gonna change in a year,
00:54:53 he's playing like the role that we expected,
00:54:57 or at least that we want out of him.
00:54:58 I wouldn't say he's underwhelmed at all or underperformed.
00:55:02 - No, and he easily cut up-
00:55:03 - Listen.
00:55:04 What is this?
00:55:06 (all laughing)
00:55:09 You see?
00:55:10 Did Amit just went-
00:55:11 - That was three years ago.
00:55:12 - Amit just went and tried to search me.
00:55:14 - That's from three years ago.
00:55:16 - Amit just went on Twitter and tried to search me
00:55:19 talking shit about Jalen.
00:55:20 - Oh yeah, they were super critical back then.
00:55:22 - That was probably after a really, really good game
00:55:25 that he had too, 'cause that's the running joke
00:55:26 is that we don't talk about Jalen, right?
00:55:29 When he plays well.
00:55:30 So if you go back into that-
00:55:32 - When John's not on, we do a better job, yeah.
00:55:34 - He probably went off in that game
00:55:36 and we were probably joking about it off the top
00:55:38 that we weren't gonna talk about him, but.
00:55:40 - I think we're fair. - My last question for you,
00:55:42 Jimmy.
00:55:43 - Yeah.
00:55:44 - After the week they had,
00:55:45 a lot of freak out after the two losses,
00:55:47 a really disappointing loss to the team
00:55:51 that's probably the standard in Denver.
00:55:53 And then, you know, without poor Zingas,
00:55:56 they get back on track and you pretty much see
00:55:57 that they can probably get by anybody else
00:55:59 except the elite of the elite
00:56:00 just 'cause of how much talent they have.
00:56:02 You know, Phoenix here, good example of that.
00:56:04 Where are you at on them?
00:56:07 - I am at right now, this very moment.
00:56:11 And my answer can change 'cause I need to see
00:56:14 how things shake out in the playoffs.
00:56:15 But right now, after what I saw in Denver,
00:56:17 I think Denver is slightly better than the Celtics.
00:56:19 So in a seven game series,
00:56:21 I have to take Denver over Boston right now.
00:56:23 I think Boston's the best team in the East.
00:56:25 I think that they should,
00:56:27 I think if you're a betting man,
00:56:29 you should put some money on them
00:56:30 getting to the NBA finals.
00:56:32 I'm at this point, if the final started tomorrow,
00:56:36 I'm taking Denver, but who knows how they look
00:56:39 leading into that if they get there.
00:56:41 So my answer can change prior to that.
00:56:44 I'm sure we'll have our predictions
00:56:46 if we get to that point again.
00:56:47 But right now, after what I saw, it's Denver.
00:56:50 I just think they're connected right now.
00:56:51 - It's gonna change to me.
00:56:53 It's gonna change.
00:56:54 - It might change.
00:56:54 I guarantee you it'll change.
00:56:56 I guarantee you it'll change.
00:56:57 But right now, this is where I'm at.
00:56:59 - Well, this is what happens.
00:57:00 Think about it, guys.
00:57:01 This is like with the 30 in a row
00:57:02 where it's like you ride the wave of a deep playoff run.
00:57:07 And when you get to the finals, you're just like,
00:57:09 oh, there's no way these guys could lose.
00:57:10 I mean, look, in 2022, looking back on it,
00:57:14 I feel like one of us should have called this thing right.
00:57:18 But none of us did, right?
00:57:19 If I'm not mistaken, we all picked the Celtics,
00:57:20 but we were so like, maybe we had blinders on,
00:57:22 but I just feel like when you ride the wave
00:57:25 of that momentum, you're like,
00:57:26 oh, this is gonna carry over.
00:57:27 And sometimes we overlook the other side of things.
00:57:31 So we'll see.
00:57:31 - That's why you gotta really question everything with them
00:57:35 'cause they've had great teams and they've let down.
00:57:38 - That's true.
00:57:40 But also if you look at the two games,
00:57:42 the two sample sizes that we have,
00:57:43 there's a lot that both teams
00:57:45 sort of didn't bring to the table.
00:57:46 Both teams weren't the best version of themselves.
00:57:49 I think that's what we'll look back on
00:57:52 when we think about the season series,
00:57:54 even though the Denver Nuggets did beat the Celtics.
00:57:55 But you look at the Nuggets team as a whole
00:57:58 compared to who they were last year,
00:57:59 and I see them missing some of those pieces.
00:58:03 Caldwell Pope, Bruce Brown,
00:58:08 I thought was huge for them in that run.
00:58:10 Shit, even Jeff Green, right?
00:58:13 - Yeah. - What's up?
00:58:14 - Casey P's still there, but yeah,
00:58:16 it was Brown, it was Green.
00:58:17 - Right, but he wasn't, he didn't play.
00:58:19 That's the thing.
00:58:20 I feel like we didn't see, in both of those games,
00:58:23 there were instances where they weren't all there.
00:58:26 And I think that throughout the postseason,
00:58:30 we'll find out more about this Nuggets team.
00:58:32 I'm not saying they're gonna have a hard time
00:58:34 getting to the finals.
00:58:35 - They might. - Honestly, I think,
00:58:37 but Bobby, I think the Clippers are the only one
00:58:39 that really stand out a lot.
00:58:40 - Oh yeah. - Okay, there's teams
00:58:42 that could make it a six game series,
00:58:44 but I don't see a team where it's like,
00:58:45 whoa, that team might--
00:58:46 - But that matters, Josue.
00:58:47 - Outside of the Clippers,
00:58:49 that's the only team in the West, I think.
00:58:51 The Clippers are the only team where I say,
00:58:52 that's the one that could beat the Nuggets, always.
00:58:54 - This is gonna set the tone immediately, Jimmy,
00:58:56 because if they go six in round one,
00:58:58 the Celtics, that is-- - What is?
00:59:00 What's gonna set the tone immediately?
00:59:02 - How long their series get drawn out in the East.
00:59:06 Like if they're playing a Bulls, Hawks,
00:59:08 even like a Pacers at this point,
00:59:10 I know they lost to the Nathrean--
00:59:11 - Oh my God, it should be a sweep.
00:59:12 - And they've given the Celtics some issues,
00:59:13 but they should be able to sweep those teams
00:59:15 five at the most.
00:59:17 (laughing)
00:59:20 And last year you go six with Atlanta,
00:59:23 it almost went seven.
00:59:25 - He's not wrong.
00:59:28 - It almost went seven.
00:59:31 And then round two, you go down three to two
00:59:33 to a Philly team that you should have handled
00:59:37 and barely squeaked out that game six.
00:59:40 And then in Miami round three,
00:59:42 you blow two games early and you look tired
00:59:46 and you lose some guys to injuries later in that series.
00:59:48 So that's what screwed everything up last year.
00:59:51 That's what you can't do this year,
00:59:52 especially when you're this one seed
00:59:53 by eight games at this point, and that's in the bag.
00:59:56 Beat Chicago or whoever it is in four round one,
01:00:00 move on to round two,
01:00:01 it's probably gonna be a tough-ish team,
01:00:03 but six games, something like that, you're done with them.
01:00:08 And then the East finals,
01:00:09 it's gonna be a battle from that point on.
01:00:11 Like someone's gonna emerge in the East, Jimmy,
01:00:13 that we're not expecting.
01:00:14 I know John likes the Bucs.
01:00:15 - Knicks. - I still like the Knicks.
01:00:18 - Philly is lurking. - What about the Cavs?
01:00:20 Bobby, don't you have a little birdie telling you
01:00:23 that the Cavs are a tough team?
01:00:24 - Yeah, I think that's a team that analytically right now
01:00:31 is emerging as that number two option
01:00:33 in the East behind Boston.
01:00:35 And the numbers were saying a similar thing
01:00:38 about Miami last year, even though they were the eight seed.
01:00:41 So take it with a grain of salt,
01:00:43 Mitchell's hurt, Mobley's hurt,
01:00:45 that team hasn't been able to get healthy all year.
01:00:47 Struess just went down for like three, four games too.
01:00:50 So I don't know if they're gonna be able to play together
01:00:52 and get right.
01:00:53 And they certainly had a huge playoff disappointment
01:00:55 last year, but they played you tough last year.
01:00:58 You always have to respect the heat,
01:01:00 but let's just admit it, Jimmy,
01:01:03 they got a major break round one last year.
01:01:05 Like if Giannis is healthy, do they get out of round one?
01:01:08 I don't know.
01:01:09 And then round two, they beat up a Knicks team
01:01:12 that was a little battered too.
01:01:13 So that was a little bit of an aberration last year,
01:01:16 but if you lined up against the heat
01:01:18 and it literally looks like that shouldn't happen
01:01:19 in round one, you know, they've been a steady five seed,
01:01:22 four seed kind of team of late.
01:01:24 You shouldn't run into them in round one.
01:01:27 And that would be the real scary thing.
01:01:29 If you had to play a team like that round one,
01:01:30 if you're against Miami round two,
01:01:32 you've destroyed them this year
01:01:34 and they've lost some important guys.
01:01:36 They've added some important guys too.
01:01:38 But with the team you have now,
01:01:40 you should be able to put that heat thing in the past.
01:01:43 Now, they would still have my respect.
01:01:45 They could certainly draw out that series
01:01:47 as we talk about here, but the East should be yours.
01:01:52 You're up eight games in the standings.
01:01:54 That should speak for itself.
01:01:55 - All right, you asked me,
01:01:56 where are you at with this team?
01:01:57 Stop talking about the East
01:01:59 because we all know that Celtics
01:02:00 are gonna get out of the East.
01:02:01 Are they- - The Nuggets, the Clippers.
01:02:03 - Where are you with them?
01:02:04 - I still have them falling just short of the championship
01:02:09 because I think there's better teams out West,
01:02:10 namely the Nuggets.
01:02:12 And I felt that way from the start.
01:02:13 The Nuggets should have the benefit of the doubt.
01:02:14 I still can't believe people were like,
01:02:16 "Whoa, the Nuggets beat the Celtics."
01:02:19 They have the best player.
01:02:19 They have the best team.
01:02:20 They have the most together team.
01:02:23 So it shouldn't be a surprise if they go back to back here.
01:02:26 And a lot of it's on Tatum.
01:02:28 - I don't think it's a surprise.
01:02:29 - I don't think he has to rise to that occasion.
01:02:31 - Gotta be, it's also,
01:02:33 I don't think it would be a surprise
01:02:34 if the Celtics won either.
01:02:35 I don't think it's a surprise either way.
01:02:37 Those I think most people would agree
01:02:38 are the two best teams in the league.
01:02:40 Now, right now it seems,
01:02:41 and again, we're basing it off recent,
01:02:43 you know, recency bias, right?
01:02:45 The Nuggets feel a little bit more connected.
01:02:48 They, again, you saw Jokic be the best player on the court.
01:02:53 You saw him, again,
01:02:54 show why he's the best player in the league.
01:02:56 It's not just his scoring, it's his passing.
01:02:58 It's his ability to just affect the game
01:03:00 in so many different ways.
01:03:01 He gave Aaron Gordon like the seven easiest field goals
01:03:08 of his life against the Celtics.
01:03:09 They just forgot to, you know, rotate and box out.
01:03:13 It is what it is,
01:03:14 but he just has eyes in the back of his head
01:03:16 as a seven foot or whatever he is.
01:03:18 And he's gonna end up as being an all time great.
01:03:22 He already is.
01:03:23 So these are the guys that are against the Giannis's,
01:03:27 the Jokic's, the Durant's that we saw tonight.
01:03:29 These guys are always gonna be there.
01:03:30 They're always gonna be trouble.
01:03:32 The Celtics, they've got the team.
01:03:36 They've got the starting lineup to compete
01:03:37 with any other starting lineup.
01:03:40 But are their star players, the Tatums and the Browns,
01:03:45 are they going to-
01:03:47 - Consistent enough.
01:03:48 - Are they gonna raise the ceiling just that much higher?
01:03:52 Yeah, are they gonna raise the ceiling that much higher?
01:03:54 That's really what it comes down to.
01:03:55 And to this point, they haven't.
01:03:56 And that's why they get criticized.
01:03:59 And I think they know that.
01:04:00 I think they've even said that.
01:04:01 We haven't done it yet.
01:04:02 We get criticism because we've come short
01:04:06 and they know what they have to do to get that respect
01:04:08 that it feels like they want so badly.
01:04:10 And so that's why I still have,
01:04:13 that's why after what I saw this week, I have Denver.
01:04:15 Now, to start the year, I had the Celtics.
01:04:18 That doesn't mean that I don't believe
01:04:19 in the Celtics anymore.
01:04:20 I just think right now, Denver's playing better.
01:04:21 And if the two teams played today,
01:04:23 I think Denver takes the championship.
01:04:28 That could change depending on how both teams
01:04:30 look in the playoffs.
01:04:31 Or it might stay the same.
01:04:32 I might say, I still got Denver.
01:04:34 I still haven't seen enough.
01:04:36 Even though I still expect the Celtics to get there,
01:04:38 it really matters how they get there.
01:04:40 So that's just where I'm at with it.
01:04:41 Joe Sway, I don't think I got yours yet.
01:04:43 - What was it, prediction?
01:04:46 - Yeah.
01:04:47 - Where you're at.
01:04:47 - Just like where you're at with the team.
01:04:49 - Yeah, after the week they had, yeah.
01:04:51 - Yeah, I mean, even, look, my whole thing
01:04:54 about what went down those last two losses
01:04:56 against the Cleveland Cavaliers and Denver Nuggets
01:04:58 is what my only concern all year long
01:05:02 about this team has been.
01:05:03 Late game execution, when the game's close.
01:05:05 I mean, that's where you wonder, put on the spot,
01:05:08 are they gonna make the right decisions?
01:05:11 Is Joe Mazzullo gonna do his absolute best
01:05:14 to put these guys in a position to win?
01:05:16 Because a lot of times, I feel like
01:05:18 if we let these guys go out there
01:05:20 and figure it out on their own,
01:05:22 it's a big spot for them.
01:05:23 And even though these guys are getting more used to it,
01:05:26 you wonder how much of that experience
01:05:29 is gonna translate into doing the absolute right thing
01:05:32 in the postseason.
01:05:33 I mean, I like that these guys got those two Ls.
01:05:36 It's good in the sense that it gives them that experience
01:05:39 just to, hey, we gotta be, the margin of error
01:05:42 is super thin down the stretch.
01:05:43 We gotta be much more efficient.
01:05:45 I love that Christophe Porzingis had that great matchup
01:05:49 against Jokic, the best of the best.
01:05:51 You could tell he was just really enjoying that moment
01:05:53 and also maybe a little too much,
01:05:55 kind of like, man, that's Jokic.
01:05:57 I felt like he needed that experience
01:06:00 and I'm glad that he got that,
01:06:01 but it doesn't change my level of concern
01:06:05 because we haven't seen it consistent enough.
01:06:07 And that's a testament to how dominant
01:06:10 the Southerners have been.
01:06:11 It's like, wait, why are you being up
01:06:13 with these teams so much?
01:06:14 I wanna see how you guys are doing
01:06:15 at the end of the fourth quarter.
01:06:16 So obviously you can't fault them for that,
01:06:19 but it doesn't make me feel any better
01:06:21 coming out of what we saw in those two losses.
01:06:23 Even if they lost it in different ways,
01:06:26 I don't think it would have, I mean, maybe it helps,
01:06:29 but the fact that it came down to,
01:06:32 maybe the corner three from Tatum,
01:06:35 if he makes that, that's just kind of how the game
01:06:40 presented itself, but getting to that point
01:06:42 is what worries me.
01:06:43 0 for 8 from behind the three-point arc
01:06:46 and giving out a huge lead like that.
01:06:47 Sure, is someone on the other team
01:06:49 gonna score 20 points in the fourth quarter all the time?
01:06:51 No, but the way you handled that just didn't feel great.
01:06:54 How much is Christophe Brzezinka gonna be involved?
01:06:57 Does he disappear in the last two minutes no matter what?
01:07:00 Does the ball always have to go to Tatum
01:07:02 at the end of the game if the game is tied?
01:07:04 How do we feel about that?
01:07:05 Especially if maybe he's not having a great shooting night.
01:07:08 I just feel like this pattern that we've seen,
01:07:10 that we saw a lot last year,
01:07:12 kinda comes back to repeat itself
01:07:14 when they're in those situations.
01:07:16 So we'll see.
01:07:18 - We gotta show the two, Jimmy, 'cause-
01:07:20 - But in terms of them winning the E's,
01:07:22 none of that has changed.
01:07:24 - No, me neither.
01:07:25 - It would be an epic failure, collapse,
01:07:28 whatever you wanna label it as,
01:07:30 if they don't make it to the NBA finals.
01:07:32 - I mean, we all picked them.
01:07:34 In the beginning of the year,
01:07:35 we all picked them to win the E's,
01:07:37 and I would imagine we're all more confident
01:07:39 in that prediction now than we were.
01:07:40 - You feel better about that, right.
01:07:41 - Yeah, than we were to start the year.
01:07:43 Now, Bobby had them losing to the Nuggets in six.
01:07:47 Me and Joe Sway had them winning.
01:07:50 Sherrod had them winning.
01:07:52 John had them winning.
01:07:53 - But we all had to sell these Nuggets, right?
01:07:55 - We all had, no, I actually-
01:07:57 - John had the Warriors.
01:07:58 - John had the Warriors.
01:07:59 - John had the Warriors,
01:08:00 but he always goes for the Bulls, though.
01:08:01 - I had the Suns,
01:08:02 which sounds like that's gonna be wrong, too.
01:08:04 Bobby did have the Nuggets.
01:08:06 Bobby predicted Nuggets in six,
01:08:09 so that seems, I bet you he would keep-
01:08:12 - I guess what they did last year,
01:08:13 they stormed through the playoffs,
01:08:15 and Yoko's just so much better than any other star.
01:08:19 - What's interesting is that right now,
01:08:20 the Celtics are still favorites to win the whole thing.
01:08:22 - As they were last year.
01:08:23 Remember they were down three nothing,
01:08:26 and the odds were still 300 or something for them,
01:08:28 and Vegas just kept believing in them the whole way
01:08:31 until they finally lost.
01:08:33 So, I mean, the odds have always loved the Celtics
01:08:35 for some reason or another.
01:08:36 - They're actually, yeah, I mean,
01:08:37 they're plus 210 right now,
01:08:40 and the Nuggets are plus 420,
01:08:41 so, I mean, that's double.
01:08:43 That's quick math.
01:08:44 - I get it.
01:08:45 Odds on, like, threes fall, all that.
01:08:48 They're gonna be a load,
01:08:50 and we can have a longer conversation
01:08:51 about that Nuggets game another day,
01:08:53 but if shots fall against Denver,
01:08:56 the way Denver relies on the two,
01:08:57 and just to go to some Missoula stuff here,
01:09:00 like, there'll be two games in that series
01:09:02 where the Celtics just run the Nuggets off the court
01:09:05 'cause the shots are falling,
01:09:06 and the Nuggets can't keep up
01:09:08 'cause they just don't have as much shooting.
01:09:10 It just comes down to those one or two games
01:09:12 that really go down in the wire.
01:09:14 Those will swing the series,
01:09:15 and the Celtics could wrap it up in six
01:09:17 if they take care of business in those spots,
01:09:19 but I talked about it with one of their writers,
01:09:23 Matt Brooks, last night.
01:09:25 Like, if it's going down to the wire against Denver,
01:09:28 you just know Jokic is gonna make all the right plays,
01:09:31 and it's a lot of pressure on you to do the same,
01:09:33 and I pulled up these numbers here.
01:09:35 Chris Forsberg shared these after the Cavs lost Jimmy.
01:09:39 I don't think you guys got in them that night.
01:09:41 I found this so interesting.
01:09:43 I actually wrote about it on the site after.
01:09:46 So they're 18, well, now 19,
01:09:50 'cause tonight was technically a crunch time game,
01:09:52 five under five,
01:09:54 but they're 19 and 10 in crunch time this year,
01:09:56 and you say, "Oh, that's really good,"
01:09:59 but then you start narrowing it down.
01:10:01 Three points under three minutes.
01:10:03 They're now 12 and 10.
01:10:05 Two points under two minutes,
01:10:09 nine and nine after these last two games here.
01:10:13 Go down to one point in the final one minute.
01:10:16 They are four and seven now, I believe,
01:10:20 or yeah, four and seven, 'cause tonight didn't get there,
01:10:23 and then you bring it down to the last 10 seconds,
01:10:26 and they are two and six after that Nuggets game.
01:10:29 Well, no, technically no.
01:10:33 Two and five still after the Cavs game,
01:10:35 'cause they didn't go down to the last shot in Denver,
01:10:37 but still some crunch time struggles here,
01:10:40 as you start to narrow down later and later into the game,
01:10:44 closer and closer.
01:10:46 So that was some good stuff by Forsberg there,
01:10:48 digging that up after the Cavs game,
01:10:50 'cause we came down to the last shot again,
01:10:53 and Celtics slipped up in that spot.
01:10:55 - Yeah, man, I just, yeah, I mean-
01:11:04 - They gotta clean up in this.
01:11:05 That's one of the concerns you can have.
01:11:07 - When you talk about the upcoming schedule,
01:11:08 it's like, man, they should be able to take care
01:11:10 of business with these teams, but you wish-
01:11:13 - They're not gonna have a lot of opportunities
01:11:15 to work on it, Josue.
01:11:16 That's the thing.
01:11:17 - But that's the thing.
01:11:17 I was just gonna say, you wish you had another
01:11:19 Denver matchup coming up, honestly.
01:11:20 Well, you got the Suns coming into town next weekend.
01:11:22 I hope they're completely healthy.
01:11:23 We'll see what Booker's like, but yeah,
01:11:26 I mean, that's probably their next big test,
01:11:28 and I'm ready to see the Phoenix Suns
01:11:31 put up their best fight.
01:11:32 So let's see how the Celtics counter that, for sure.
01:11:35 But outside of that, I mean, that's probably
01:11:37 one of the bigger matchups left in the regular season
01:11:39 before the Suns are gonna be April
01:11:41 and going into the playoffs, so, but yeah.
01:11:43 - Suns aside, it's Blazers, Jazz, Wizards, Pistons.
01:11:48 You do get the Bucks, but then it's Pistons,
01:11:51 Bulls, Hawks, Hawks.
01:11:53 There's like three good games left in the season.
01:11:57 - You got one more Bucks matchup, right?
01:11:58 - Or maybe.
01:11:59 Yeah, and maybe those Bucks next games
01:12:02 give you something in April, but it kind of feels
01:12:03 like it's gonna be, you know, get ready
01:12:05 for the playoffs time by then.
01:12:07 - You think Doc would do that thing that he does sometimes
01:12:09 where he like arrests his guys,
01:12:10 but he don't wanna like show them anything?
01:12:12 I don't know.
01:12:12 He'll either go one or two ways,
01:12:14 either full force- - Damn it.
01:12:16 - To motivate his guys or he might arrest them.
01:12:19 We'll see, hopefully he doesn't arrest them.
01:12:20 - There's two Bucks games left.
01:12:22 - Yeah, that second one though, I don't know.
01:12:25 The first one's definitely gonna matter.
01:12:27 - That one, well, that one I think is gonna be,
01:12:29 yeah, all of his guys will be in there.
01:12:31 - Yeah, you got Thunder, you got Pelicans,
01:12:33 you got two Hawks, you got two Bucks.
01:12:35 - Thunder would be a good one.
01:12:36 - You got a couple games that are worth watching still.
01:12:39 - Grant's return. - But again,
01:12:42 but again, what's it matter?
01:12:45 Grant's return.
01:12:46 - Does he get a tribute?
01:12:47 - He'll get one.
01:12:50 - We had this conversation.
01:12:52 - Oh, we did?
01:12:53 - He did so much community stuff.
01:12:56 He did so much community stuff,
01:12:57 they're gonna give a nod to that at the very least.
01:13:00 - Bobby thinks he's gonna get the-
01:13:03 - Jimmy to charity.
01:13:05 - Get the community award in the middle of the game?
01:13:08 Like, dude.
01:13:08 - The Kelly Olenek, yeah.
01:13:09 - They did that for Smart.
01:13:11 - Well, that's- - Smart did way, way more.
01:13:16 - On and off the court.
01:13:17 - 'Cause he was here longer.
01:13:18 Grant did a lot of community stuff.
01:13:20 - Listen, I'm not gonna, okay, I believe you.
01:13:22 I'm sure he did, but now he gets a video tribute
01:13:25 'cause he planted some trees.
01:13:28 - He hit seven threes in a game seven.
01:13:32 Helped you get to the finals.
01:13:33 - Oh yeah, yeah, that was your number one thing.
01:13:36 The game seven, I'm like, oh my, Jimmy,
01:13:39 are you with me on this?
01:13:39 Like, Kelly's game seven versus-
01:13:42 - Kelly got a video, right?
01:13:45 Did Kelly get a video?
01:13:46 - No, no, no, my point is Kelly got a video
01:13:48 because the community stuff
01:13:49 and that game seven was different.
01:13:51 - Kelly and Grant- - He dropped, he went off.
01:13:52 He dropped 28 in that against the Wizards
01:13:54 to put him away.
01:13:56 Like, not to say that Grant had to drop 28,
01:13:58 but it just didn't have the same feel to it.
01:14:00 'Cause it was just like, man, like, he can't,
01:14:02 they can't stop him out there.
01:14:04 And it came out of nowhere.
01:14:05 Like, Kelly, Kelly was solid, but-
01:14:08 - Kelly and Grant had very similar Celtics careers.
01:14:11 Four years, one legendary game,
01:14:14 and like one really solid season.
01:14:16 - But Kelly didn't, Kelly didn't like embarrass himself
01:14:20 to end his career with the Celtics like Grant did.
01:14:23 - No, no, he actually went out on the high note.
01:14:25 - Yeah, Grant got, Grant got bullied.
01:14:29 - I still love him yelling in the face with Butler.
01:14:33 But they didn't- - I like, again,
01:14:34 I love, I love the right idea, wrong execution.
01:14:41 Right idea, wrong execution.
01:14:42 - No, my thing is right idea,
01:14:44 but like Draymond said, that's not you.
01:14:46 - Wrong message.
01:14:48 Right message, wrong message.
01:14:50 I gave him credit because nobody else in the team
01:14:52 wanted to do it apparently.
01:14:54 And that says more about the team
01:14:55 than I think it says Grant, unfortunately.
01:14:58 You didn't have Jalen Brown stepping up
01:15:01 or Tatum stepping up and saying something
01:15:04 or just wanting that smoke, if you will.
01:15:07 - Or at the free throw line in Cleveland.
01:15:09 I'm gonna make both.
01:15:10 I'm gonna make both.
01:15:12 Nope.
01:15:13 - They didn't want it.
01:15:13 - No, we want it. - Didn't even speak.
01:15:14 - That play where Embiid stepped on his head
01:15:16 was absolutely insane.
01:15:18 I can't believe he got up from that.
01:15:20 - Speaking of Draymond.
01:15:23 - He literally talked himself out of Dallas, man.
01:15:25 Let's be real here.
01:15:27 - His return should have already happened.
01:15:29 Yeah, with Dallas. - They got tired of him.
01:15:31 They got tired of him down there.
01:15:32 It's too bad.
01:15:33 - Speaking of Draymond, he had Paul Pierce on his podcast.
01:15:36 I haven't listened to it yet. - Great episode.
01:15:37 Great episode. - Is it good?
01:15:38 Yeah, I saw some clips.
01:15:40 - Yeah, it's really good. - It looked like
01:15:41 some good stuff.
01:15:42 I didn't know that they were even tight like that,
01:15:46 but hey, good on Pierce and good on Draymond
01:15:49 for being able to just do that.
01:15:52 - I don't think they're tight like that,
01:15:53 but I don't think there's that like...
01:15:56 - Yeah, there's no hatred, obviously.
01:15:58 - Yeah, 'cause everyone always talked about that video,
01:16:00 which of course, right off the top,
01:16:01 Paul was just like, "All right, we gotta talk about this."
01:16:03 When he was talking about the,
01:16:05 they thought they, you think that they love you like Kobe.
01:16:08 And Paul's saying how he didn't even know
01:16:09 that the microphone had picked that up
01:16:10 until he looked at his phone
01:16:12 and had like a hundred notifications.
01:16:13 But yeah, no, it's a good conversation, man.
01:16:15 I thought it was pretty cool how
01:16:17 Paul just pretty much talked about his career
01:16:22 and the chapters, the things that he had to go through
01:16:26 to become a champion.
01:16:28 You can just tell-
01:16:29 - He talked about getting stabbed and everything again too,
01:16:32 which is always- - Yeah, he talked about
01:16:33 that as well.
01:16:33 Draymond just really engaged and really,
01:16:36 you can just tell he was really impressed
01:16:37 with what Paul had to say.
01:16:39 - Yeah, I felt like he was trying to get Paul
01:16:41 to open up a little more about that night,
01:16:43 but it was a really good episode, man.
01:16:44 It was good.
01:16:45 - Speaking of episodes, we're gonna wrap it here,
01:16:48 but do you guys have anything you wanna pump or plug
01:16:51 before we go?
01:16:51 You guys have any of your own episodes coming up?
01:16:54 - Not an episode, but an appearance for sure.
01:16:57 Tomorrow afternoon, I'll be on EI at 1130.
01:17:01 You guys wanna fire up the app or chime in and listen?
01:17:06 - Toss on the radio dial.
01:17:08 That's-
01:17:09 - Yeah, the old radio.
01:17:10 What's the number?
01:17:10 - What do we got, 93.7 on the radio?
01:17:12 - 93.7, 1130.
01:17:14 - In the Austin area, okay.
01:17:16 - Maybe on your way to mass.
01:17:17 - Who's on the show?
01:17:21 - I'll be on with Arcane, Christian Arcane,
01:17:23 who does the two to six of "Money Thru Pride."
01:17:26 - Give us a shout out, Joseph.
01:17:27 Give us a shout out.
01:17:28 Come on. - All right, I got you.
01:17:29 - Tell me if I need to. - I'll shout you out.
01:17:31 And then bring episodes of "Cedric Maxwell Podcast"
01:17:34 coming as well.
01:17:34 So that was pretty cool, man.
01:17:36 I gotta check in with Max with the West Coast Road Trip.
01:17:38 My man had the shades on,
01:17:39 looking like LeBron indoors in street clothes.
01:17:43 - Oh. - Yeah, yeah.
01:17:45 But except- - Did you see LeBron last night?
01:17:47 - Max did the right thing.
01:17:48 He did it outside in the desert.
01:17:50 So it was pretty cool.
01:17:51 But check us out, man.
01:17:52 He got a balcony off his hotel balcony deck.
01:17:55 So he recorded off of that.
01:17:56 And we just got into the whole,
01:17:58 a lot of what we just said in this episode,
01:18:00 but from Max's perspective, you know,
01:18:02 Southeast Lake game execution, losing the way they did,
01:18:06 Jason Tatum's struggles,
01:18:07 and what Galen Brown's been doing lately.
01:18:09 So yeah, that's coming out as well.
01:18:11 - Nice. We love Max.
01:18:13 We love you, Jesse.
01:18:13 So we look forward to that.
01:18:14 Bobby, you got anything you're working on?
01:18:16 Or you just chilling?
01:18:17 - Boston Sports Journal columns out there.
01:18:19 Nothing crazy this week.
01:18:21 I talked to Ricky Council,
01:18:23 who played with both Jordan Walsh in Arkansas,
01:18:27 and Jaden Springer in Philly.
01:18:29 So he gave some insight on those guys.
01:18:31 And then CLNSmedia.com for a write-up of this game.
01:18:36 And are you two joining us Monday
01:18:39 for the big one, Trailblazers?
01:18:41 - I will not be on Monday, Shaw.
01:18:43 I will be in bed for that one.
01:18:45 You know I don't do those things.
01:18:46 - It's a game time decision, bro.
01:18:47 - Who knows who's gonna play that game for them?
01:18:50 - Yeah. You might not see me till Thursday.
01:18:54 Suns again.
01:18:55 I guess I'm just the Suns guy.
01:18:56 You got, oh, Southlake's got a back-to-back.
01:19:00 Oh, Monday, Tuesday.
01:19:02 - Monday, Tuesday.
01:19:04 - This is the Blazers lineup right now.
01:19:06 Delano Banton, Anthony Simons, Chris Murray,
01:19:11 Duwop Reeth, and Tumani Kamra.
01:19:14 - Tumani who?
01:19:17 I'm gonna have to do some serious YouTube
01:19:20 highlight reel research.
01:19:21 - You need to watch some clips of him.
01:19:23 - Yeah, there's a reason I'm not on Monday Night Show.
01:19:26 It's not just the late night.
01:19:28 It's because I don't know who the hell any of those guys are.
01:19:31 All right, so we got Trailblazers Monday.
01:19:34 Jazz Tuesday.
01:19:35 Listen, we got everybody covered.
01:19:37 Everyone's covered for these games.
01:19:39 Then the Southlakes come back to Boston
01:19:42 just for one game against Phoenix.
01:19:44 Little weird, weird, weird little trip here.
01:19:47 Then they hit the road for Washington.
01:19:50 That's your next week right there.
01:19:51 So Blazers, Jazz, Suns, Wizards.
01:19:54 We'll have you guys covered the whole way through.
01:19:56 Once again, we wanna thank Rise Picks.
01:19:59 - I'm gonna hit-
01:20:00 - Rise Picks.
01:20:02 - I'm gonna hit DC for the anniversary
01:20:03 of the traffic game, Jimmy.
01:20:05 - Are you going?
01:20:06 Yeah, make sure you don't get caught.
01:20:09 - Hopefully the Southlakes leave early this time.
01:20:11 - Yeah, we don't want another fiasco like that.
01:20:13 (laughing)
01:20:15 - Wait, which one you talking about?
01:20:16 - That was my-
01:20:17 - Yeah.
01:20:17 - Remember they lost to Washington
01:20:19 and Jalen blamed it on the traffic?
01:20:21 - Oh, that's from last season.
01:20:22 - They came out like so last year.
01:20:24 - Yeah.
01:20:25 - That's actually, you know what?
01:20:26 - Apparently ESPN said that's the game
01:20:28 that made them interested in Porzingis.
01:20:31 I don't know if they were just playing that up,
01:20:32 but if that happened, I guess it was a good thing
01:20:35 that they lost that.
01:20:35 - Porzingis return game.
01:20:37 I might have to bet the-
01:20:39 - Actually, no, he went back in October.
01:20:42 - Yeah, well, he's back again.
01:20:45 I'm gonna probably hit the under on every Celtic
01:20:47 in that game just for the traffic situation,
01:20:49 for the Prize Pick under.
01:20:51 And then I'm gonna hit the Porzingis over though,
01:20:53 'cause he's gonna come up.
01:20:55 He knows his way around the city,
01:20:56 so he might get there on time.
01:20:58 But again, guys, that's Prize Picks.
01:20:59 You wanna download the app and put in the promo code CLNS
01:21:04 for 100% deposit match up to $100.
01:21:07 So put in 100, get an extra 100.
01:21:09 I mean, there's really no better deal than that,
01:21:12 to be completely honest.
01:21:13 That is it for us.
01:21:15 I am going to try to find the outro.
01:21:19 Amit, hit me with the outro if you're listening.
01:21:21 If not-
01:21:22 Wait, Amit's got an outro for us, I think.
01:21:25 - No, he doesn't.
01:21:25 - He said he was gonna work on an outro.
01:21:27 - I am.
01:21:28 - He had a phenomenal game.
01:21:30 - Phenomenal game.
01:21:32 (laughing)
01:21:33 - Porfrit's out, I think it's an outro.
01:21:35 (laughing)
01:21:38 - That did not sound like a chair.
01:21:40 - It was a freaking chair.
01:21:42 It does sound like a chair.
01:21:43 (upbeat music)
01:21:46 (upbeat music)
01:21:48 (gentle music)
