00:00 Prayer and sacrifice,
00:02 that's what our Muslim countrymen started
00:05 on the first day of their month of fasting.
00:07 And from Manila, we have the first live news,
00:10 Mico.
00:11 Mico?
00:13 Good morning, Ivan.
00:18 Today is the start of Ramadan for our Muslim brethren.
00:22 Before 5 am,
00:26 the people started entering the Golden Mosque
00:28 here in Quepo, Manila.
00:29 That's for the start of Ramadan,
00:32 or the month of fasting.
00:34 At 5 am, they started praying.
00:37 This is also a sign of the start of their fasting,
00:40 or avoiding eating or drinking,
00:42 or anything that is bad for fasting.
00:44 Fasting for Muslims
00:46 is the closest thing to God.
00:48 They can only eat when the sun sets.
00:51 Ramadan is the month of Kashf
00:53 in the Islamic calendar, or Hijri.
00:55 Muslims believe that in this month,
00:57 God showed the Qur'an to the Prophet Muhammad.
01:00 For many of our Muslim brethren,
01:02 fasting has never been hard for them,
01:05 except for one blessing.
01:07 Fasting is an obligation.
01:13 It is a promise from God,
01:15 which is, we are obliged to do fasting
01:20 in the month of Ramadan.
01:22 And as a Muslim,
01:25 no one is forcing us,
01:26 because it is in our faith
01:27 that we are doing it for ourselves,
01:31 and also for God.
01:35 We are fasting for ourselves,
01:39 so that God will be satisfied
01:43 with our fasting during Ramadan.
01:46 Ivan, during this time of Ramadan,
01:53 Muslims pray five times a day.
01:56 After the prayer at 5 a.m. or Fajr,
01:59 they will follow it at 12 p.m. or Zuhr.
02:03 Asar is the prayer between 3 and 4 p.m.
02:08 Maghrib is the prayer at 6 p.m.
02:11 This is also where the breaking of the fast,
02:13 or Iftar, will take place.
02:15 The last prayer is called Isha,
02:18 which is every 8 p.m.
