00:00 A massive cyber attack targeting French government infrastructure.
00:04 The hacker group Anonymous Sudan claimed the direct denial of service attack or DDOS on
00:09 Sunday, which it said affected 17,000 IP addresses and over 300 web domains.
00:15 A DDOS attack floods a system with traffic, forcing it offline, though it does not involve
00:21 any leakage of data.
00:23 The French Prime Minister's office released a statement saying France's cyber security
00:27 unit ANSI was working on fending off the attack.
00:31 Many ministerial services were targeted using familiar technical means, but of unprecedented
00:37 intensity.
00:38 A crisis cell has been activated to deploy countermeasures, meaning the impact of these
00:43 attacks has been reduced for most services and access to state websites restored.
00:49 Anonymous Sudan is a group that emerged in early 2023 and which has been linked to attacks
00:54 on what it views as anti-Islamic actors.
00:57 It is also believed to be linked to Russia.
01:00 The group was involved in a similar attack on the social network platform X last August,
01:05 putting it offline in several countries.
01:08 France's Defence Minister Sébastien Lecornu said last month that the country needed to
01:12 step up its defences against hostile cyber attacks in the months ahead of the Paris Olympics.
