Africa's birds of prey face extinction

If vultures, eagles and other raptors die out, their extinction would majorly impact the environment and human health. Yet poisoned carcasses and climate change are just some of the dangers to Africa's great birds of prey.

00:23 If you have fewer vultures, you're likely to have more carcasses that stay longer in the landscape
00:31 before they get consumed by other scavengers, such as hyenas or even dogs, domestic dogs eat a lot of carcasses as well.
00:39 And so when you have carcasses that stay around on the landscape, you can imagine there's a lot more potential for disease.

01:02 We have a release rate of 70%, so 70% of those birds eventually get released back into the wild.
01:08 And over the last 15 to 20 years, I think it's in the 2,000 to 3,000 bird range.
