00:00 Well everyone, he's not a rapper.
00:01 No, I'm not a rapper.
00:02 I wish I can rap though.
00:03 Can you rap?
00:04 You know, if you ever need a feature.
00:06 What's up, it's your boy YK Osiris and you're watching Billboard News.
00:10 Hey everyone, it's your girl Katrice J here with Billboard News and we got YK Osiris in
00:27 the building.
00:28 How are you?
00:29 I'm good, how you doing?
00:30 I'm good.
00:31 I'm blessed that you're here.
00:32 I'm blessed that I'm here.
00:33 You have some exciting news for us.
00:51 Something coming soon.
00:52 What do you have to share?
00:53 Um, EP coming out.
00:55 I'm very excited.
00:56 What is there to come?
00:57 What's the title of the EP?
00:59 So I got a couple features on there.
01:01 The name, still trying to...
01:03 Untitled.
01:04 Yeah, I'm trying to really piece it together but I know for sure it's coming soon.
01:08 That's so exciting.
01:09 So I want to talk about the evolution of your sound and your music.
01:14 What is this new you?
01:15 It's elevated.
01:16 I feel new.
01:17 I feel great.
01:18 I feel like I'm back in the music space, in the studio every day, making crazy music.
01:24 I just put out time go by.
01:26 I'm just loving this space that I'm in right now.
01:28 Loving myself, loving my art, surrounding myself around the right people.
01:32 I'm loving it.
01:33 That's very exciting.
01:40 And you know, Time Goes By has been getting great reception.
01:43 And you dropped it during Grammy week, which is the busiest week in music.
01:47 So how do you feel like the reception's been versus other past singles you've dropped for this one?
01:52 They love Time Goes By.
01:54 I just feel like it's a great record to vibe to at night, while you're driving, while you're in the car just chilling.
02:03 I just feel like it's a great sound.
02:04 This is coming from Rocky Osiris.
02:05 It's a great sound.
02:06 I have the interlude coming in and I'm singing my heart out.
02:09 It's just a great vibe just listening to it.
02:12 I'm proud of myself for that.
02:14 Yeah, you should be.
02:15 I'm very proud.
02:16 You also dropped a live performance.
02:18 If you come back in my life, would you come back in my life?
02:25 Why a live performance versus a typical music video?
02:29 I feel like I haven't really shown my acapella voice more.
02:34 I want to start doing that more, just showing how my voice is naturally.
02:39 That's why I really wanted to show that.
02:41 It was a great performance.
02:42 And people loved it.
02:43 They didn't really hear my voice in a long time in that space.
02:47 So I just feel like that was a great move, what I did.
02:50 I feel like the music video is coming soon.
02:54 But that particular video performance was great and it was live.
02:59 So I loved it.
03:00 So when is the music video coming?
03:02 Because you said soon.
03:03 How soon?
03:04 It's coming.
03:05 I'm still trying to...
03:06 I've got a little edit to do, but I'm still coming.
03:07 It's coming though.
03:08 I'm excited.
03:09 You also have some other singles coming.
03:11 Woozie is coming.
03:12 Woozie.
03:13 And "Soul Ties."
03:14 "Soul Ties."
03:15 Tell me about Woozie.
03:16 Woozie, great record.
03:17 I love that record a lot.
03:18 My team love that record.
03:20 It's just a vulnerable record by the one man deck.
03:23 Trying to get her back, knowing my faults, knowing my wrongs.
03:26 And telling her that I do better.
03:28 That please forgive me, please take me back.
03:31 So that's what that record is about.
03:32 It's just being Woozie.
03:33 Yeah.
03:34 And "Soul Ties" in that same category.
03:36 Bad soul ties, I know you know of that.
03:41 Having bad soul ties, having that bad chemistry, but you're still dealing with that person.
03:46 So all that is very cohesive with each other.
03:50 Can you give us a hint of who may or may not be on there?
03:54 I have Dej Loaf.
03:56 I have a song with her.
03:57 I have a song with Tyga.
03:59 I have a song with a couple people in spite.
04:02 I'm very excited for Dej Loaf and me.
04:04 That's a great record.
04:05 It's called "Teezy."
04:06 It's a great record.
04:07 I ain't gonna lie.
04:08 It's a great record.
04:09 I'm pretty excited to drop that.
04:10 Yeah, I'm excited for that too.
04:11 I love Dej Loaf.
04:12 And it's sung with me and Tyga hard too.
04:14 That song is hard.
04:15 "Dirty Distractions" is crazy too.
04:16 What's the vibe?
04:17 Is it like party?
04:18 Is it summer vibe?
04:19 Party vibe.
04:20 Party.
04:21 It's not a record that is going to stick for me.
04:22 It's like a record like, "Wow, this is a great record," for sure.
04:25 Okay.
04:26 Another Billboard Hot 100.
04:28 Yeah, for sure.
04:29 Yeah, for sure.
04:30 What is music inspo?
04:32 What's been inspiring you lately?
04:33 I'm gonna keep it a buck with you.
04:35 Relationships.
04:36 Ooh.
04:37 Yeah, relationships been a big deal for me.
04:40 Just that relationship makes me want to get in the studio and say how I feel.
04:45 I've been very vulnerable lately in the studio.
04:48 And I really don't be like that.
04:50 But the past months, I've been very vulnerable in the studio.
04:54 Like, "Please take me back, Mo.
04:56 Please, this is bad.
04:58 This is toxic.
04:59 Let's get this together."
05:01 So everything I'm saying in the music that you're gonna hear is real life.
05:05 So this is real R&B.
05:07 This is real R&B, yeah.
05:08 So are you in a relationship?
05:10 No, no, I'm not in a relationship.
05:12 You're just going through the feels.
05:13 Yeah, I'm going through the feels.
05:14 Gotcha.
05:15 I will give you the world, baby girl.
05:18 You just gotta be worth it.
05:20 "Worth It" peaked within the top 50 on the Hot 100.
05:24 And you're only 25.
05:26 And not a lot of people get that feature.
05:28 So how does that feel to have even been that high on the charts?
05:32 To be honest, at that moment of my life, I didn't really like real shit.
05:37 Like, I ain't gonna lie.
05:38 I really didn't like it.
05:39 Like, okay, that's fire.
05:41 But time was going by so fast, it just came by like, "Dang, that's crazy."
05:45 But on Billboard, that's fire.
05:47 Like, on Billboard, everybody don't get on Billboard.
05:50 So if you get on Billboard, that's a big thing.
05:53 But being so young, being young, you don't really like, "I'm really on Billboard?"
05:58 So it's been hard, like, really shit.
06:02 But it was a great moment at that time.
06:05 100%.
06:06 I mean, I remember everyone-- wasn't it like a TikTok thing, too?
06:09 Like, everyone was singing it.
06:11 Yeah, everybody was singing that.
06:13 You're gonna have more, so I'm excited.
06:15 Yeah, can't wait, too.
06:16 I want to get into the origin of your name, YK Osiris, because it gives me rapper vibes.
06:21 But you're not a rapper by any means at all.
06:23 So what's the origin of your name?
06:25 YK Osiris, so it's Young King Osiris.
06:28 The Young King came from my teacher, and I just ran with it.
06:32 YK do sound like a rapper name, but it's crazy.
06:36 But it say Young King, so I'm like--
06:38 Some people say, "You know Osiris."
06:41 But it's like, it's YK Osiris, Young King.
06:44 But it's really just-- I just ran with that name from my teacher.
06:46 And shout out to him.
06:47 He's the one that called me YK Osiris.
06:49 Why did you shorten it to YK from Young King?
06:52 Because it's easier, like YK Osiris, Young King Osiris, like YK.
06:58 So when I go on stage, I'm like, "YK, YK."
07:00 So it was just easy for the fans.
07:03 You're from Jacksonville, Florida, but you also were raised in Canada,
07:07 but you also lived in L.A.
07:09 So you've kind of been an old--
07:12 Yeah, I'm from Jacksonville, Florida.
07:14 I was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida.
07:17 Canada, my people live out there, too, so I go in and out.
07:19 And L.A., like, work.
07:21 I came out here for work.
07:23 I do want to ask you, you've had your run-ins with people in the music industry.
07:27 How has that kind of affected your mental health moving forward
07:30 and kind of even in this new space with relationships and music?
07:33 How has that in the past affected you?
07:36 Man, learning experience.
07:38 I just feel like it's growing as a man.
07:41 It's growing and elevating.
07:43 Every year is different.
07:45 And I just feel like I have grown so much in this understanding life,
07:48 understanding people, understanding yourself,
07:51 and understanding that life--just understanding life.
07:54 I feel like going through trials and tribulations in life
07:58 always helps your mind to elevate
08:01 and knowing who you are as a person
08:03 the more you go through trials and tribulations.
08:05 So, you know, I love it for me, and I love it.
08:07 I just love it.
08:09 I love being in that era of learning new things,
08:12 going through things, trying new things,
08:14 and just elevating as a man.
08:16 If you had to give advice to another man
08:19 or someone that's in music trying to figure it out,
08:21 what's some advice you would give them?
08:23 The advice I'd give them is, first of all, believe in yourself.
08:28 Second of all, don't overthink.
08:31 That was my biggest problem, overthinking things
08:34 and not thinking everything have to be perfect, you know,
08:38 'cause what's not perfect to you might be perfect to somebody else.
08:42 So that's a great thing I say to my folks out there.
08:46 And just like I say, just believe in yourself
08:48 and have great people around you that genuinely love you
08:51 and love your art.
08:53 Speaking of believing in yourself, you are independent now.
08:57 - Yes. - You're your own boss now.
08:59 So what is that--how does that feel?
09:01 It feels great. It's kind of like--you know, like, you get in--
09:04 it's kind of like a little, like, hesitant,
09:07 but it's just like, you get the feel of it,
09:09 and you understand, like, this is how you can do it now.
09:11 This is how you do it now? Okay, cool.
09:13 It's more like--you can feel it now,
09:16 but I just feel like I'm just now getting in it,
09:19 so it's like now I understand the work you have to put in.
09:22 You got to put in a lot of work because this is groundwork now,
09:25 and it's more like, man, like, you got to know how much--
09:29 the work you put in, you really have to cherish your work now.
09:32 Like, I feel like if you really don't have a lot of ownership in something,
09:36 you love to do it, but you don't really cherish it
09:39 the way you should cherish it, so now I'm like, bro, like,
09:42 every little thing you got to go 110% about
09:45 because you know anything that mess up, it goes back on you.
09:48 Yep. Yep. Yeah.
09:50 Is there anything that you're looking forward to besides the new album dropping--
09:54 or EP dropping, I should say--is there a tour?
09:57 Is there movies, a clothing line?
10:01 I'm manifesting this, too. Yeah, I love that. I love that.
10:04 'Cause I do want to go on tour, and I'm going on tour this year,
10:06 so we'll keep it in--put it in the air.
10:08 I have merch dropping.
10:10 My first time dropping my own merch independently,
10:13 so I got that dropping, my merch dropping, and that's about to go crazy.
10:16 I do want to do movies. That's great that you said that.
10:19 So I am going to do movies. We'll put it in the air.
10:22 So when I do get in the mood, I'm going--I'm going to look back and be like,
10:25 "She helped me manifest that."
10:27 So yeah, movies are great, so I'm looking forward to that this year.
10:30 All of that's happening this year. All of it's happening.
10:32 Yeah, I had a few opportunities in the movies, too. I ain't going to lie.
10:35 It was just like probably didn't make sense at that time.
10:38 You know how life goes.
10:40 Totally. Wrong place, wrong time, but when it's for you, it'll be the way.
10:43 Yeah, it'll be for me, yeah, for sure.
10:45 Well, thank you so much. I appreciate you so much, too.
10:47 YKLSARS, everyone.
