Dr. Dre Says He Had Three Strokes Following 2021 Brain Aneurysm

00:00 Dr. Dre is sharing new details on his health battle.
00:04 The rapper who experienced a brain aneurysm in January 2021 is now sharing that he had
00:09 three strokes following the scary incident.
00:13 Revealing on the March 14th episode of Sirius XM's This Life of Mine with James Corden,
00:18 "It's just something that you can't control.
00:21 That just happens and during those two weeks, I had three strokes."
00:25 Dre, whose real name is Andre Rommel Young, goes on to recall the day it all happened.
00:31 Saying that he first grew concerned about his health when he woke up that fateful day
00:34 in January three years ago with pain in one of his ears.
00:39 Saying "I got up and I went on about my day and I thought that I could just lay down and
00:43 take a nap.
00:44 My son had a female friend that was there and was like, 'No, we need to take you to
00:48 the hospital.'
00:49 After the record label CEO was taken to urgent care, he learned his condition was a lot more
00:54 serious than he originally thought.
00:57 Explaining, "Next thing you know, I'm blacking out.
00:59 I'm in and out of consciousness and I ended up in the ICU.
01:04 I was there for two weeks.
01:06 I'm hearing the doctors coming in and saying, 'You don't know how lucky you are.'"
01:11 A day later, the record producer took to his IG thanking his friends, family and fans for
01:16 their well wishes during his recovery process.
01:19 As well as giving a shout out to his doctors at Los Angeles's Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
01:25 Posting a throwback photo of himself at a mixing board January 5th, 2021, captioning
01:29 the post, "I'm doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team.
01:34 I will be out of the hospital and back home soon.
01:37 Shout out to all the great medical professionals at Cedars.
01:40 One love."
01:41 Since the brain aneurysm, which happens when an artery in the brain bulges and fills with
01:45 blood according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, the
01:50 59-year-old has been working on keeping himself healthy by lifting weights, running and monitoring
01:55 his blood pressure to avoid any future episodes.
01:58 Telling host James Corden that the incident made him quote, "appreciate being alive."
02:03 Reflecting on the medical emergency saying, "It's crazy.
02:06 So now knowing that I had no control over that, it's just something that could happen
02:10 out of the blue.
02:12 You wake up and go, 'F***, okay.
02:14 I'm here.'"
