00:00 Lindsay Lohan is sharing what exactly led her to leave Hollywood for over a decade.
00:07 More than a decade after the actress left Hollywood, moving first to London before settling
00:12 in Dubai, she is now sharing insight into life in the public eye, and why her departure
00:18 was a much-needed change.
00:21 Lindsay tells Bustle in an interview published on March 14th, quote, "I feel like some of
00:27 my work got overshadowed by paparazzi and all that kind of stuff when I was younger.
00:34 And that's kind of annoying.
00:35 I wish that part didn't happen."
00:37 The Freaky Friday star continues, quote, "I feel like that kind of took on a life of its
00:43 own, so that's why I want it to disappear.
00:47 I was like, 'Unless there's no story here, they're not going to focus on just my work.'"
00:53 Lindsay goes on to say that what she experienced with incessant paparazzi coverage and speculation
01:00 is different than what younger stars go through today, adding, quote, "Social media is so
01:06 different now than when I was younger, that everyone has control of their own story."
01:12 However, she isn't paying attention to much of the noise, even on social media, adding,
01:18 quote, "I don't really pay attention to that.
01:22 I don't really read stuff that comes out either, 'cause I know how it works, so there's no
01:27 point.
01:28 And if you immerse yourself in that stuff, you're just going to get lost.
01:33 And it can just do so much to you."
01:36 And the 37-year-old has made her return over the last few years in a big way, making a
01:42 cameo appearance in the 2023 musical remake of her classic film Mean Girls, as well as
01:48 signing a deal with Netflix, which began with her 2022 movie Falling for Christmas and the
01:55 upcoming film Irish Wish.
01:58 Lindsay, who is a new mom to her 8-month-old son with husband Bader Shammas, explains to
02:05 E! News earlier this month how she's picking her projects moving forward, saying, quote,
02:11 "I want to do things that my son can see, but I also want to do things that inspire
02:17 me."
02:18 She adds, quote, "It's a learning process.
02:21 I'm having a different go at it, figuring out what I want to do and how I want to do
02:27 it."
