The San Francisco 49ers reportedly must forfeit a draft pick due to multiple administrative accounting errors in 2022.

00:00 This is embarrassing.
00:02 The 49ers must forfeit a fifth round draft pick in 2025
00:07 due to multiple administrative accounting errors in 2022.
00:11 In addition, their fourth round pick this year
00:14 will be moved to the end of the round.
00:17 Here's what the 49ers had to say in a written statement.
00:20 We take responsibility and accept the imposed discipline
00:23 from the NFL due to a clerical payroll error.
00:27 At no time did we mislead or otherwise deceive the league
00:31 or gain a competitive advantage
00:33 in connection with the payroll mistake.
00:36 Apparently, the 49ers incorrectly disclosed to the league
00:40 how much money they paid their players in 2022.
00:43 According to the 49ers, this was an honest mistake
00:47 and in no way were they trying to create
00:49 a competitive advantage, which in some ways is even worse.
00:53 You could somewhat understand a team trying to bend a rule
00:57 or find a loophole if it would create an advantage,
01:00 although that would be cheating.
01:02 But to simply make an accounting error
01:04 that costs the team a fifth round pick
01:06 plus draft position in round four is incompetent.
01:09 We don't yet know precisely what the 49ers did wrong,
01:14 but it sounds like someone should get fired.
01:16 I've never heard of an accounting mistake
01:19 costing a team a draft pick.
01:21 And a round five pick is not a throwaway pick
01:25 considering that's the round in which the 49ers
01:27 drafted George Kittle, Talanoa Hafunga, Diamador Lenore,
01:32 and Dre Greenlaw the past few years.
01:34 Let's see if anyone in the organization
01:38 takes personal public accountability for this blunder.
