00:00 Hello, this is Levi with Rainbow Media Co.
00:03 Hi Levi!
00:04 How are you all doing?
00:05 Excellent!
00:06 We're great!
00:07 Thanks.
00:08 Good!
00:09 It's so good to see you, although I just saw you on, I just watched season three, episode
00:11 one this morning to like reinvigorate some questions for you all.
00:16 So I feel like I've just seen you.
00:18 So obviously the show has a lot of 90s influence and I'm wondering, and this is a question
00:24 for all of you, we'll start with Dizzy, how do you think the legacy of iconic 90s girl
00:29 groups like the Spice Girls, with their very strong emphasis on female empowerment and
00:35 individuality, has influenced the themes and dynamics within Girls 5Eva?
00:39 Well, I mean, especially like when you bring up the Spice Girls, it's amazing because I
00:43 do think that there was this sort of like, you know, the juxtapositioning of like girl
00:48 power and then also like paparazzi and tabloid culture and the way that pop stars and young
00:55 women were treated at that very same time.
01:00 There were a lot of mixed messages in popular culture back then and I think that Meredith
01:07 Scardino does just such a really beautiful job and all of the writers and Tina Fey, obviously,
01:13 of really weaving together what that was and how it impacted the women that these four
01:22 women became and how it has affected all of their journeys.
01:31 Sarah?
01:33 I mean, is there anything more to say to that?
01:36 I mean, I think that there, yeah, you know, what I think this show is doing is it's sort
01:41 of teasing out these themes that with the gift of reflection of all these years, we
01:49 can look back and sort of, you know, put the way these girls were treated really under
01:54 a microscope and make light of it, but also shine a light on it.
02:00 So I think they do that so well in our show that we can tease out some of these kind of
02:06 deeper issues, but also do it with humor and lightheartedness and a little bit of just
02:12 ridiculousness.
02:13 I love that this show just hovers in surreality quite often.
02:20 Things don't really happen like this and yet they do.
02:23 It feels grounded and surreal at the same time.
02:26 Yeah, I think that's right.
02:28 And Renee, they killed it with the answers, but I'm sure you've got something to add.
02:32 I love the fact that we're not saying, I mean, we make fun of like all of the things that
02:38 maybe they did wrong perhaps, or the ways that the opportunity might seem squandered.
02:46 And reality, what we're saying is in spite of all of the things that were wrong in that
02:51 time, women like this still thrive.
02:56 They still try.
02:57 I feel like we're saying about SWV and the Spice Girls and Destiny's Child and TLC, about
03:03 all of these groups, I think we're saying bravo.
03:06 Yeah, well, yeah, for sure.
03:08 You know, bravo because, oh my God, look at what you had to do in spite of all that.
03:16 That's I think the message of the show.
03:18 If you still rose above through all that bullshit.
03:20 If you still rose above that and we thought you were great then, we know even better how
03:24 great you were.
03:26 Well, you know, to stick with this kind of girl power, Spice Girls theme, if the girls
03:33 of a cast were to transform themselves into their own Spice Girls light group, I'm curious
03:39 what unique personas each of you would choose based on your characters in the show or even
03:44 your own personalities.
03:46 And we'll start with Paula.
03:49 I would be quantity Spice because I've got size, power, I'm low to the ground, and I'll
03:59 offer a lot of things.
04:00 I'll offer a lot of things at the table.
04:02 A lot of things and you might not want all those things, but they're there on the table.
04:09 Quantity.
04:10 So many flavors.
04:11 Ladies and gentlemen, quantity.
04:12 Oh my God, my knees hurt.
04:13 Quality, quality Spice.
04:14 Stick with it.
04:15 Alliteration.
04:16 I'm not going to be quickie Spice.
04:17 I'm going to be quality Spice.
04:18 I think quality Spice.
04:19 I think quality is something that's even more important than quantity.
04:20 I think quality Spice is something that's even more important than quantity.
04:21 I think quality Spice is something that's even more important than quantity.
04:22 I think quality Spice is something that's even more important than quantity.
04:23 I think quality Spice is something that's even more important than quantity.
04:24 I think quality Spice is something that's even more important than quantity.
04:25 I think quality Spice is something that's even more important than quantity.
04:32 I think quality Spice is something that's even more important than quantity.
04:35 I think quality Spice is something that's even more important than quantity.
04:36 I think quality Spice is something that's even more important than quantity.
04:37 I think quality Spice is something that's even more important than quantity.
04:38 I think quality Spice is something that's even more important than quantity.
04:39 I think quality Spice is something that's even more important than quantity.
04:40 I think quality Spice is something that's even more important than quantity.
04:41 I think quality Spice is something that's even more important than quantity.
04:42 I think quality Spice is something that's even more important than quantity.
04:43 I think quality Spice is something that's even more important than quantity.
04:44 I think quality Spice is something that's even more important than quantity.
04:45 I think quality Spice is something that's even more important than quantity.
