Liberal Democrat mayoral candidate Rob Blackie launched his campaign in Brixton this morning with the slogan "Fix the Met."
Mr Blackie said he would do this by investing more resources into catching sexual offenders.

He added that the Liberal Democrats can drive up support by having an “energetic, optimistic and fun” campaign.

00:00 The key thing is to focus more on the Met. Sadiq Khan has not been very interested in this issue
00:05 while he's been mayor, even though it's obviously his core job. And I go around London every week,
00:11 I talk to people who are scared about crime, they might see a burglary or break into a car on their
00:18 street or they might see a stabbing nearby. And people really worry about that. The failure of
00:24 Sadiq Khan has me not to focus on the Met. The first thing I would focus on would be fixing his
00:32 terrible record on sexual offences. Right now, we are catching half as many offenders like that as
00:39 we were when Khan became mayor. And that requires a focus, it requires more resources, but it also
00:45 requires a mayor who's going to be on it every day. People are ready to support us around London.
00:50 They're not impressed by Sadiq Khan's record, particularly on crime, but also on things like
00:55 the tube breaking down the whole time. But equally, when they hear about the Conservatives,
00:59 they know the candidate is really out of tune with modern London. You know, he's not really
01:04 the sort of person modern London would support. And of course, Conservatives nationally are very
01:08 unpopular. But you know, I think their controversy around racism last week has been a very good
01:13 example of that, but really doesn't work for modern London. So that's a great opportunity
01:19 for us. What we're going to do on is an energetic, optimistic, fun campaign to try and attract
01:24 people to our cause. What we're seeing week in and week out around London is that's happening.
