00:00 It is possible to leave Bohol's status as a UNESCO Global Geopark
00:05 if it is not passed in the evaluation in 2027.
00:09 Meanwhile, aside from the resorts and chocolate hills built,
00:12 there is also a protected landscape in the Upper Marikina River Basin.
00:18 Maki Polido is on the spot!
00:21 There is a big arch in Marcos Highway in the province of Rizal
00:28 where the Upper Marikina River Basin Protected Landscape is said to be entering.
00:32 It is wide, more than 20,000 hectares.
00:35 Because it is a protected area, the signage of DENR is almost adjacent to this road in Antipolo.
00:41 But the tarpaulin of the resorts that spread in the area is almost adjacent.
00:46 In one place in Antipolo, there are five small resorts with a swimming pool.
00:51 It is not a private property.
00:53 The rights are still under the DENR.
00:57 If everything is closed, it is allowed.
01:00 In the nearby barangay, one of the resorts has an Environmental Compliance Certificate or ECC from the DENR.
01:07 The ECC allowed the construction of a swimming pool.
01:11 The Masungi Reserve Foundation has been long trying to build resorts
01:15 inside the Upper Marikina River Basin.
01:17 In Baras, Rizal, there are 10 resorts with swimming pools in 2021.
01:22 Now, there are 15.
01:24 They complained about the newly built resorts when the construction was just starting.
01:29 The concrete fence was only one foot tall.
01:35 It was only one foot tall.
01:39 We reported that.
01:41 Now, the fence is 10 meters high.
01:44 We asked why we reported it, why it was not stopped.
01:48 Under the law, it is actually the DENR, that is the Administrator of Protected Areas.
01:54 They are reminding that the status of Bohol Island is not permanent as a UNESCO Global Geopark.
02:00 It will be under the evaluation in 2027.
02:04 If the Chocolate Hills and other geosites in Bohol are not in accordance with the criteria,
02:10 Bohol Island can be removed as a Global Geopark.
02:13 We are in danger of losing that status.
02:17 If we do not fix it.
02:19 Yes, we could.
02:21 Because what will happen is, if there is a revalidation, there is a team that will come to the Philippines
02:25 and check all those geosites again.
02:27 We have to ensure that all the geosites have been well protected.
02:34 And we continue to satisfy the criteria of being a UNESCO Global Geopark.
02:40 The Office of the Ombudsman and the DILG are now investigating the construction of the resort in Chocolate Hills.
02:46 We have an idea of who should be responsible for this, but we need to gather evidence against them.
02:53 If there's no evidence, we don't know who should be blamed for this.
02:58 The cement transportation to the mountains is not in line with the rules of the barangay.
03:09 If you have done something to the end of the town, it will be immediately transferred to the other end of the town.
03:15 Why would our team look into this?
03:17 The DILG is continuously investigating this.
03:20 For GMA Integrated News, Macky Pulido, in Tutok, 24 Hours.
