Ed Valentine of Big Blue View weighs in on the New York Giants' best free agency moves made in 2024.

00:00 First wave of free agency is over.
00:02 The Giants were very active as I think a lot of us expected they would be coming off the
00:07 six and 11 record last year.
00:10 Joe Shane at the combine telling reporters that, you know, the roster would probably
00:15 look a lot differently than it did at that time.
00:20 Looking at the moves that he's made, what stands out to you as being like the key moves
00:25 and moves that you like the best?
00:28 Well obviously, Saquon Barkley and Xavier McKinney were let go in free agency.
00:35 The Giants didn't really compete all that hard to keep either one of them in the end.
00:40 And obviously the trade for Brian Burns.
00:43 I think for me, Patty, what I've written and what I've said at Big Blue View and on my
00:50 own show is, for me now, this isn't necessarily a rebuild for Joe Shane.
00:57 It's a reset.
00:59 And what I look at for Joe Shane is it's taken three off seasons for him to get there, for
01:06 him to get where he wanted to get to, just in terms of this being the philosophy, the
01:15 roster building philosophy, the salary cap philosophy that he really wants to get to.
01:23 And I look at this right now as this is now Joe Shane's build.
01:27 We can't look at this anymore and say, "Well, he was handicapped by this Kenny Galladay
01:31 decision that Dave Gettleman made," or, "He was handicapped by Gettleman drafting Daniel
01:37 Jones," because guess what?
01:39 Joe Shane's the one that gave him the four-year $160 million deal.
01:43 So for me, the big thing is this is now Joe Shane's build.
01:49 It's Joe Shane's show.
01:51 It's not finished, obviously, but we're now seeing, I think, the philosophy and the direction
01:58 that Joe wants to go in.
01:59 And that's the big takeaway for me from the whole last week or so.
