00:00 Venezuela's National Electoral Council holds the fifth and last day of candidates' registration
00:05 for the upcoming 2024 presidential elections.
00:08 We go live with our correspondent Gladys Quesada for the latest updates.
00:12 Yes, thanks for the contact, thanks for the time here in TELUS or English and also for
00:21 the opportunity to tell to our audience what has been going on today, March 25th in Venezuela.
00:27 Today, Monday, was the fifth and final day for the nomination and registry process for
00:34 all the candidates and those who were designed by each one of the political forces and called
00:39 by the political forces to be the representative and the runner for the presidential elections
00:44 of July 28th.
00:46 In this occasion was the date and the turn for the president of the nation and also
00:52 the aspirant to the re-election, Nicolás Maduro Moros.
00:56 And I have to tell you, the day was not just about his registry, but also how the people
01:02 supported this candidacy and this registry.
01:05 In this occasion, people from all over Venezuela and from all over Caracas came here to downtown
01:12 Caracas also, to the vicinities of the National Electoral Council to accompany, to support
01:19 this candidacy and registry of the president.
01:21 They were gathering here in the main squares of downtown Caracas, as I was saying, to Caracas
01:28 Square and they were also accompanying and giving their support since early morning.
01:34 Around midday, the president came here and arrived to the National Electoral Council
01:40 and not only submitted his documentation in person to the electoral authorities, he also
01:47 addressed the nation.
01:48 It was an interesting statement and speech because he was saying that so far there are
01:55 ten candidates, nine opposition candidates and him representing the great patriotic Paul
02:02 and representing the United Socialist Party of Venezuela.
02:06 He was saying that he knows that many people that have contrary positions and stances that
02:13 he has, they want violence in the country, but he's stressing that he wants a peaceful
02:19 election, a peaceful campaign.
02:21 He wants that the campaign will be a party and a joyful time for the people.
02:28 Let's recall that the president has been facing magnicide attempts against his life, but today
02:35 he was stressing that he is not in a vengeance, he's not resentful because of that, but he
02:42 wants to be the candidate of the people and once again showcase that he has the legacy
02:48 and the inheritance of Hugo Rafael Chavez FrĂas.
02:52 He was stressing that his party, his political force is one of continuity with Chavez ideals
02:59 and one of the continuity with Chavez projects.
03:02 In that end, or to that end, he was also announcing a new mission of his government that will
03:07 be enforced in 15 days, and that is MisiĂłn de los Abuelos, which is the mission for the
03:14 elderly and is a social program by the government to give special attention to the elderly and
03:21 those who have an advanced age.
03:23 Also, he was recalling that his government issued other missions, other social programs,
03:28 like Viva Venezuela, Mi Patria Querida, which is a mission to save and preserve all the
03:34 culture and the folklore of the Venezuelan people, and also the mission to solve the
03:41 issues of the female population, the women in Venezuela, and the youth, because he was
03:47 stressing that those are two sectors that have been badly hit because of the sanctions
03:52 and the blockade and the attacks against the nation, against Venezuela.
03:57 Also, he was saying that he had the support of about 5 million voters, because the grassroots
04:06 organizations of the United Socialist Party amass over 4.2 million voters, 4.2 million
04:14 people that not only nominated him, but also will give him the support in these elections.
04:20 He was also saying that his government faced two really, really difficult times in Venezuelan
04:28 history.
04:29 He was recalling that after the death, the physical disappearance of Rafael Chavez FrĂas,
04:36 he had to take the top post, and that was a difficult time.
04:41 And he was saying that after 2018 elections, he was also assuming power in a context marked
04:48 by the sanctions, marked by the cutting of the oil industry in the nation, and the downfall,
04:56 the pitiful of the economy in Venezuela, which was a really, really hard time for the people
05:02 in the nation.
05:03 But he was saying that his government, his administration was able to navigate those
05:08 times, and now he will sort the new challenges that his administration is facing.
05:16 So that was the day he afterwards, his nomination, he went to address the people back in the
05:22 square.
05:23 He went to meet his people, his supporters, and that was today, that was what was happening
05:30 today in Venezuela here in Caracas, and that was the Parliament events, the highlights
05:35 of today.
05:37 So that is the information.
05:39 Now the National Electoral Council has five days to accept or decline the nominations,
05:45 and afterwards, each one of the nominees has the right to go and appeal the decision of
05:52 the National Electoral Council.
05:54 Afterwards also then comes the time for the substitution period, and that means that each
05:59 one of the parties has the right to find a substitute for their candidate in the case
06:05 that the candidate cannot move on with the campaign and other events in the electoral
06:12 schedule.
06:13 That's the information.
06:15 Those are the events.
06:17 Those are maybe the data and the facts of what has been going on in Venezuela.
06:22 We will have more details in upcoming emissions.
06:24 And now I'm back.
