A couple skirted NHS waiting lists by flying 5,900 miles to Thailand for a dental appointment.

Jamaica Kelly, 23, decided to tie in a dental appointment during her five-month backpacking stint with her boyfriend, Sam Austen, 23.

During the trip, the pair visited Malaysia, Japan and Indonesia before ending up in Thailand.

A few weeks before they were due to fly back to the UK, Jamaica and Sam decided to take advantage of cheap treatment and no waiting lists by going to the dentist in Ao Nang, Krabi, Thailand for a check-up.

After checking Google reviews, they booked Dental Box in Ao Nang, Krabi, Thailand, and secured a same-day appointment.

00:00 Before we decided that we would go to the dentist, we were just due for a dental check-in
00:04 in December and it's cheaper here and we're heading back to England soon so we figured
00:07 we'd just get it done.
00:08 My name is Jamaica Kelly, I'm 23 years old and basically I was due for a visit to the
00:14 dentist around that time when I was in Thailand.
00:16 I knew that it would be cheaper, I knew that I could find a place that had English-speaking
00:21 dentists and good standards and I knew that I could get it all done fairly quickly so
00:26 just kind of went for it.
00:27 It was like a thousand baht per person which is very cheap and it was like a full clean
00:30 and x-ray so can't complain about that.
00:33 We walked in at 5pm on like a Thursday evening just to see if we could find an appointment.
00:38 She offered us something that was in an hour's time so we kind of just left, killed some
00:43 time, brushed our teeth and came back an hour later at 6 o'clock.
00:46 They took me through pretty much straight away.
00:48 There was about one form to fill out with just basic details to put on file.
00:52 Didn't need any insurance or anything because we were paying out of pocket so that was really
00:55 easy.
00:56 Just sitting in the chair and having the cleaning done, it was all pretty much the same as how
01:00 I'd experienced going to the dentist back home my whole life so knew what to expect
01:04 and it came out the exact same.
01:05 When I was done I had x-rays which was the exact same.
01:08 My x-rays basically told me what was going on.
01:11 I asked to have those emailed to me and they said that wasn't a problem if I wanted to
01:15 take that up with a different dentist in the future.
01:17 It was about an hour in total for the cleaning and the x-rays and I walked back out very
01:21 happy.
01:22 So yeah, you have to do your own research, you have to find a dental practice in Thailand
01:26 that you feel comfortable going to.
01:29 But if you want to save some money, I think it's a great thing to look into.
01:32 I personally have had no downsides from going.
01:35 Make sure the place you're considering has an English website.
01:38 They say they have English speaking receptionists and dentists.
01:41 The prices are really clear and they're well reviewed would definitely be my top things
01:46 to look into before committing to an appointment.
01:49 But it's definitely possible to get something really good for a fraction of what you pay
01:52 backward.
