00:00 And we just want to build a one-stop shop that's just a really cool place for people
00:06 to hang out where they want to leave and the studio is the last part of that for us.
00:10 Having had a soft launch in November 2023, Tapyard Studios is set to launch their music
00:15 scene in Newcastle. A huge industrial event space on the cusp of Ouseburn introduces a
00:20 live music venue, food and beer hall and coffee house, with rehearsal studios opening this
00:25 year. It's hoped to make the music scene a little bit more accessible to local people.
00:30 People in working class places don't get the opportunities that a lot of other people might
00:34 do when it comes to music and live music as well. I'm in a band myself called Venus Girls
00:42 and we're very DIY so we started right from the bottom and worked our way up.
00:49 Well, aside from always knowing that Newcastle's got a great music scene, we hear a lot about
00:53 it, we'd only been up a few times before we moved but we'd just heard a lot about the
00:57 music scene up here and then we were looking for somewhere to do this kind of business
01:00 in Leeds. We'd viewed loads of units, didn't find anything that we fell in love with and
01:06 then I remember there was one time where we were just laid in bed at the end of our tether
01:10 just looking after disappointment after disappointment and we said let's just broaden our scope out
01:16 of Leeds and this was the next building that came up.
01:18 I think anyone who likes music and who plays music is what we're going for really. The
01:24 live music side of it, anyone will be welcome.
01:28 So we're looking long term to build a community hub, a social hub for musicians and music
01:34 lovers and we feel like the rehearsal studios are the last part of that.
01:37 Hoping to just get an influx of new bands coming through. I've got another company called
01:41 Way Out Ahead which nurtures young musical talent so it's going into primary schools
01:48 and recording albums with the students so it's kind of part of that vision, it's kind
01:51 of adding to that but especially with the studios and then there's somewhere where bands
01:57 can rehearse and practice their craft.
