00:00 In the heart of Baltimore, tragedy struck in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
00:08 Two construction workers, Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes and Dorlean Ronel Castillo Cabrera,
00:14 lost their lives in a devastating collision that shook the city to its core.
00:19 As the city woke to the news, Maryland police faced a grim reality.
00:24 Six out of eight members of the construction crew were feared lost beneath the cold waters
00:29 of the harbor.
00:31 Despite the risks, rescue teams worked tirelessly to recover the bodies trapped within the twisted
00:37 steel and concrete debris.
00:39 But their efforts were met with challenges as sonar scans revealed more vehicles entombed
00:46 within the wreckage.
00:48 Based on sonar scans, we firmly believe that the vehicles are encased in the superstructure
00:54 and concrete that we tragically saw come down.
00:57 Colonel Ronel Butler, the superintendent of Maryland State Police, told a press conference.
01:03 Here's the full video.
01:05 This morning, as the governor said, we moved from search and rescue to search and recovery.
01:11 The Maryland State Police, along with the underwater recovery teams, supported by state,
01:18 local and federal partners, made a tragic finding.
01:23 Shortly before 10 a.m., divers located a red pickup truck submerged in approximately 25
01:30 feet of water in the area of the middle span of the bridge.
01:37 Divers recovered two victims of this tragedy trapped within the vehicle.
01:43 The victims were identified as Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, 35 years old, of Baltimore, and Dorlyn
01:54 Raniel Castillo Cabrera, 26 years old, of Dundalk.
02:01 Their family members were notified just over an hour ago in person by Maryland State Police
02:06 personnel with crisis intervention personnel present.
02:12 What was the cause of this catastrophe?
02:15 A massive cargo ship, the Tally, bound for Asia, suffered a power failure, carrying into
02:22 the Francis Scott Key Bridge with devastating force.
02:25 In the chaos that ensued, heroic efforts to stop traffic on the bridge saved countless
02:31 lives.
02:32 But for the workers on the bridge, there was no escape.
02:36 As the city mourns the loss of hard-working individuals, questions loom about the safety
02:42 measures in place and the future of Baltimore's Bursling Port.
02:47 The investigation is underway, with authorities working tirelessly to understand what went
02:53 exactly wrong.
02:54 But amidst the grief, there are also stories of resilience and community support.
03:01 In the face of tragedy, Baltimore stands united, offering support to those affected and vowing
03:09 to rebuild stronger than ever before.
03:12 For now, the city mourns, but its spirit remains unbroken.
