It costs on average £50,000 for each inmate. We discuss whether prison sentences should be more lenient or if we are too soft as a nation on offenders.

00:00 Far too soft. I mean the guy who was steering a boat where I think somebody drowned,
00:05 one of the migrant boats coming across, he got 12 months in prison, you know, and he was putting all
00:11 those lives at risk. I think they're too lenient. Same for the people traffickers, they're too
00:18 lenient for the people traffickers as well. Comparing to the rest of the world's prisons,
00:23 I mean I spend a lot of time in Thailand, the prisons there, it's 22 or so. Absolutely one
00:31 million percent too soft. Offenders know that all the tricks they can get out of being prosecuted,
00:37 I think should be much harder on certain aspects of crime for sure. The more severe ones,
00:44 absolutely they need a more severe punishment. Too soft, yeah, too soft. People know that if
00:54 they get a jail sentence of six years you can have it, can't you?
