00:00 So, Bartholomew, what did we learn from the Gillingham chairman?
00:11 Yeah, so he sat down with the press earlier this week alongside the newly appointed director
00:17 of operations, Joe Comper, and they had a bit of a discussion about the future of the
00:21 club and people's roles going forward. The most important thing and really the thing
00:25 that's catching the headlines is what he had to say about the team management and the team
00:29 head coach, Stephen Clements, and his future at the club. Now, we know that Brad Gallinson's
00:35 idea for the club is that it continues to climb the football league and potentially
00:41 even become a championship side one day. At the moment, the most immediate goal is, of
00:45 course, to finish League Two this season in the top seven and be in the playoff fight.
00:51 Now, he said he's very happy with Stephen Clements' attitude towards the team, the kind
00:57 of culture that he's brought in, and he had a lot of praise for some of the stats that
01:02 Gillingham's current performance have brought, including the kind of opportunities, the crosses,
01:07 getting the ball into the box, and he was really happy with the way that's all been
01:11 achieved. Now, regardless of achieving that goal of getting into the top seven or not,
01:16 Brad Gallinson said that Stephen Clements and his assistant coach, Robbie Stockdale,
01:21 will stay around beyond the summer so that he can go through that transfer window and
01:26 finalise the squad that he gets. Now, later in the day, we heard from Stephen Clements
01:30 and he gave his reaction to the chairman's comments.
01:33 I think there's no one that puts more pressure on myself than me, and I want to be successful.
01:40 Obviously, it's nice that Brad's come out and said that. When I came to the club, I
01:45 knew it was an 18-month deal, and obviously I know that the club wants to try and get
01:51 me into the next level. I want to do that too. But I think there's a lot of good stuff
01:57 going on here at the football club, on the training ground, behind the scenes, and I
02:03 think it's nice to see that Brad sees me as part of that.
02:08 And Gillingham will take on Cru Alexander tomorrow, kick-offs at three. While sticking
02:12 with football, some famous names, including Rio Ferdinand and Roberto Carlos, are set
02:17 to go head-to-head at the launch of Bluewater's new multi-million pound entertainment centre.
02:23 The former England and Brazil internationals will join Bobby Zamora and Mark Noble for
02:28 a Battle of the Ballers tournament in May, just a few days before the official opening
02:33 of the new complex. The new 30,000 square foot arena claims to be one of the most immersive,
02:39 competitive and socialising experiences in the country, with a six-a-side 5G pitch and
02:45 Premier League changing rooms.
02:48 Moving on, Victor Dynamo's head coach Carl Lennon says he's optimistic ahead of this
02:52 side's play-off quarter-final. The Gillingham-based ice hockey club will host Solent Devils at
02:58 Planet Ice this Saturday night, before facing them again the next day in the return leg.
03:03 The Moes finished two points and one position below their rivals in the regular National
03:09 Ice Hockey League Division 1 South standings. Talking to Kent Online, Lennon says despite
03:15 being the underdogs, his team can take confidence from when they beat Solent in a cup knockout
03:21 last season.
03:23 And finally from me, Maidstone's Bill Wilson has won gold at the British Open Airgun Championships.
03:28 The 61-year-old suffered a life-changing fall six years ago and took up shooting whilst
03:33 undergoing rehab. After training with a makeshift firing range he built in his hallway kitchen
03:39 and conservatory, he's now working with the national coach Bob Thornby. He's gone on to
03:44 win a gold and bronze medal, only being beaten by two Team GB athletes. Looking towards the
03:50 future, Bill says he'll carry on competing for as long as his eyesight allows him.
03:56 And that's it from me. No Invictus sport this Friday and Monday due to the bank holiday,
