00:00 Before watching the video, I remind you that there is more content on the Hotline.
00:04 After the conflict between Israel and Palestine broke out in October last year,
00:08 the Muslim community in Damascus launched a "Bagher" operation locally,
00:12 claiming to boycott any international brands related to Israel and the United States.
00:16 Among them are Starbucks, owned by the local company Success Group,
00:20 and McDonald's, owned by Saudi Arabian company Reza Group.
00:24 The newly appointed American ambassador to the United States,
00:26 Matthew Madashka, said at a press conference today that he respects the Damascus people,
00:30 and in order to express his dissatisfaction with Israel, he chose to launch the Bagher operation.
00:34 After all, this is the right of the Damascus people.
00:36 But he reminded that this Bagher operation had little impact on the United States and Israel.
00:41 If the Bagher operation continues, it is likely to only hurt the Damascus people.
00:47 The conflict between Israel and Palestine has been going on for nearly half a year,
00:53 but the Damascus-Palestine Bagher operation is still going on.
00:56 The newly appointed American ambassador to the United States, Matthew Madashka,
00:58 reminded at a press conference today that this Bagher operation
01:01 would only hurt the Damascus people, and would not affect the United States and Israel.
01:07 Two main outlets that are being boycotted.
01:10 One is owned by Malaysians, one is owned by Saudis.
01:14 The people who are suffering as a result are the Malaysian employees.
01:19 There may be some symbolic satisfaction in doing it,
01:23 but ultimately the people that are really hurt are not Israel,
01:28 and it's not really the United States.
01:30 Madashka also emphasized that the US government respects the right of peaceful protest,
01:34 and can also understand the dissatisfaction of Malaysians.
01:37 But Madashka said that the US is not Israel,
01:40 so he hopes that the Damascus people will not vent their dissatisfaction with Israel on them.
01:45 We strongly support the right of peaceful protest,
01:49 and obviously our preference would be that they not see us as the way to express dissatisfaction with Israel,
01:56 because obviously we are not Israel.
01:59 Madashka also thanked the Malaysian government for protecting the security of US officials
02:02 during the protests at the US Embassy,
02:05 and they have also conveyed to US President Biden
02:07 the firm stance and concern of the Damascus on Palestine.
