00:00 - Good evening, gentlemen.
00:01 You received your rules earlier tonight.
00:03 I expect a good, clean fight.
00:05 Touch gloves, good luck to the both of you.
00:07 Buona fattuna.
00:09 - Arthur Mercanti Jr. keeping it short and sweet,
00:12 and we are on our way to the main event of tonight.
00:15 Simone Federici out of Coricoli, Italy,
00:19 and Blake Caporello out of West Meadows, Victoria, Australia.
00:24 Danny Chavon, you had an opportunity
00:27 to officiate a fight with Simone Federici.
00:30 What were your initial impressions?
00:32 What can we expect to see in the ring here tonight?
00:35 - A lot of straightforwardness.
00:37 Doesn't have much lateral movement,
00:40 goes mostly to the head.
00:42 Needs to go to the body a little bit more,
00:44 especially against a taller man.
00:46 - Now he was introduced as the Tank,
00:48 but I guess the other nickname is Tyson.
00:53 He really is a big fan of Mike Tyson.
00:56 His trainer is his uncle, Franco Federici,
00:59 12th year professional.
01:01 He has won six straight bouts.
01:03 His USA debut was here at the Paramount.
01:05 A loss to Joel Jaco, he is two and one
01:09 in the United States, one and one here at the Paramount.
01:11 He's always been a fan of Mike Tyson.
01:14 He got into boxing through his uncle and his cousins.
01:17 - Well, he does a peekaboo style for the most part,
01:20 as you can see right now.
01:24 Hard to penetrate, he's got a pretty good defense.
01:29 And again, though, he does a lot of looping, wild hooks.
01:33 And he basically throws them in bunches,
01:38 punches in bunches, basically.
01:39 It's not like he throws a looping hook
01:41 and then he lays back and then does another one.
01:44 He does it consecutively in the fights
01:47 that I have seen so far.
01:48 But he does need to do a little bit more
01:50 of a lateral movement because he's a bit predictable.
01:54 - Federici with a robust amateur career, 40 fights.
01:58 He's won Italian national championships
02:01 as well as competing for the Italian national team.
02:04 Third time again fighting here at the Paramount Theater,
02:07 four time on US soil.
02:09 Also fighting up in Schenectady by Albany.
02:11 That's the fight, Danny, that you officiated.
02:13 - Yeah.
02:14 - As Blake Caporello told us earlier in the week
02:18 that he's feeling good.
02:19 37th fight.
02:21 Likes to box, be defensive, put my tack together,
02:24 work up the jab.
02:25 He's fought Sergey Kovalev.
02:29 Obviously a big opportunity for him.
02:31 Archer Drells.
02:34 He's fought good competition.
02:35 He wants to fast track himself.
02:37 Left hand dominant,
02:39 grew up playing Australian rules football.
02:42 Decided to go pro at the age of 23 in boxing.
02:48 Caporello's best bet in this fight
02:50 is really to have a little bit more lateral movement
02:54 and fight him from the angles
02:56 because he will eventually start coming at him.
02:59 In the Kovalev fight,
03:01 I noticed that he got caught in the corner frequently
03:04 and that was to his demise basically
03:06 when he got knocked down, I think it was three times.
03:09 - 130 seconds to go here in round number one.
03:11 This one slated for 10 rounds.
03:12 Caporello said he wanted to reinvent himself
03:16 and training out in Los Angeles with Eric Brown,
03:19 Buddy McGurk, Batu Jack.
03:22 Says the energy is back.
03:23 Says age is just a number,
03:26 citing Batu Jack winning a world title when he was 39,
03:30 Bernard Hopkins 36, Floyd beating Canelo at 36
03:33 as he takes care of himself.
03:35 He feels great as time runs out here in round number one.
03:39 Not a lot separating these two.
03:46 A little bit of a feeling out process.
03:48 But we're seeing again, Danny,
03:50 what you referenced earlier on,
03:53 and that is that Blake Caporello again
03:55 with the height advantage and Simone Federici,
03:59 his track record is such where he has fought
04:02 a lot of taller fighters
04:03 and kind of had a singular style
04:05 when dealing with taller opponents.
04:07 What did you see here in the first round?
04:09 - Well, basically that was in,
04:11 as far as Federici is concerned,
04:13 that was a totally a feeling out round.
04:17 He didn't do a heck of a lot.
04:19 He didn't come charging in like he usually does.
04:22 He's a very linear fighter, remember.
04:25 We didn't see any of that.
04:26 I think he's actually looking at what Caporello has
04:30 and coming out in the second round,
04:33 you might see a little bit of a different Federici.
04:36 - This fight for the WBC Continental Americas
04:39 WBA and NABA Gold Cruiserweight Championship.
04:44 Blake Caporello in the teal green
04:47 and Simone Federici in the black and gold.
04:51 Federici out of Italy, Caporello out of Australia.
05:02 But by the last name I would have to imagine
05:05 of Italian descent.
05:07 - Sounds that way.
05:08 (laughing)
05:10 - Caporello's alias is El Capo.
05:15 - El Capo. - So yeah.
05:16 - So there you go.
05:17 Italy fully represented in the ring here
05:21 in our main event as Federici.
05:25 What do you look for, Danny,
05:30 in a fight that again, slated for 10 rounds?
05:33 The strategy earlier on between two opponents
05:36 who are very, I guess, evenly matched in many capacities.
05:41 Obviously there's a slight height advantage
05:44 as Federici catches Caporello in the corner.
05:48 And so some aggression here by Federici
05:53 here early in the second round.
05:55 - Well, both of these guys are definitely in shape.
05:56 And again, Federici is relentless.
05:58 He's not intimidated by larger opponents.
06:03 You know, he's listed at six feet,
06:04 but I think he's like 5'10", 5'10 1/2.
06:07 So there is a little bit of a height
06:10 and reach difference here.
06:11 But as I say, in a fight like this,
06:14 again, he's kind of predictable.
06:16 He's linear, he goes straight forward.
06:18 We haven't seen a lot of that as of yet,
06:20 but I think as the fight goes on, we will see that.
06:23 - Talked about Federici's amateur track record,
06:27 a very robust one.
06:29 And that is the case for a lot of European boxers.
06:30 They do fight or have much more extensive careers
06:33 at the amateur level,
06:35 especially those that will compete
06:37 for the national championships in their countries,
06:39 as well as represent their countries
06:41 on the international stage, as did Simone Federici,
06:45 representing Italy on the Italian national boxing team.
06:48 35, 5-1 as an amateur.
06:50 - Well, that's basically true.
06:53 I mean, look at Lomachenko for crying out loud.
06:55 I mean, what did he have, 200 fights, amateur fights?
06:58 I mean, he could have,
07:00 the guy could have been a world champ
07:02 long before he turned pro.
07:03 - Big shot there by Federici,
07:07 a couple of big slugging shots to the head of Caporello
07:11 as we box with under 30 seconds to go here
07:13 in round number two of our main event.
07:15 Federici trying to open up the hands a little bit,
07:19 trying to establish some distance.
07:21 Caporello comes in with the left.
07:25 Time winding down here in round number two.
07:29 (crowd cheering)
07:32 (bell ringing)
07:36 That'll do it for round number two.
07:37 Round three, when we return on Fight Night Live.

09:47 - Back here for the main event
09:48 for the Paramount Theater in Huntington, New York.
09:50 Fight Night Live and Joe Guardia Star Boxing
09:53 Friday night's Rocking Fights 46.
09:56 Danny Chabot and Sadiq Faruqi, so glad you could join us.
09:59 - Glad to be here.
10:00 - On a beautiful, beautiful Friday.
10:02 What a vibe, I hate that word.
10:04 I genuinely hate that word,
10:06 but what a vibe we have here at the Paramount Theater.
10:09 Packed house and attendance,
10:10 absolutely beautiful winter Friday night
10:14 here in downtown Huntington.
10:15 - Tell you something, it's always this way
10:17 in this place, it's a great venue for boxing,
10:19 for concerts, for a lot of different things,
10:22 different events, but the boxing crowd here is awesome
10:26 and it's just a great place to watch a fight.
10:30 - That's Federici, again tries to pin it.
10:35 Caporello into the corner, a lot more impressive shots,
10:38 a lot more openings.
10:40 - There's a right.
10:41 - Federici exploiting a lot more late in that third round,
10:44 or second round rather.
10:45 The thing about Federici is at times he hits with the palm.
10:48 - Yes.
10:50 - He's gotta turn his glove a little bit more, okay,
10:54 to get the knuckle portion.
10:55 He does that quite frequently.
10:58 I haven't seen him throwing that looping
11:00 hook that he does generally.
11:04 I mean, I'm talking sometimes it's a wild hook
11:07 and he does it consecutively with left rights.
11:10 I haven't seen him really do that,
11:12 but a lot of times he's landing the palm.
11:14 - Let's go, back on your legs.
11:16 - You did tell me before this broadcast, again,
11:19 watch for the overhead, the overhead head shots
11:23 out of Federici.
11:24 We've seen a couple of those here in this round, yes.
11:26 - Coming over the shoulder of the bigger man, taller man.
11:29 - What do you make of the footwork?
11:36 Again, we talked about sort of the linear nature
11:38 of Federici, his footwork and maybe it being
11:41 a little linear.
11:42 What are you seeing right now in these two fighters
11:44 moving around the ring?
11:46 - Well, I think that Caporello has a better movement.
11:51 You know, he's got more, he uses more latitude
11:56 than he does, you know, just like I said,
11:59 as opposed to the linear.
12:00 But, you know, again, I'm a little bit surprised.
12:02 I expected Federici to be coming at him a little bit more
12:05 than what he is.
12:08 And, you know, again, as the fight progresses,
12:11 as you've just seen with that left,
12:13 if he connected, that would have been all palm, okay?
12:16 That, for what, it's almost like he was pawing at him, okay?
12:20 Almost pulling the punch.
12:22 So that's what I'm talking about,
12:24 with hitting with the palm.
12:26 Caporello, yes.
12:32 - Caporello laying back a little bit, laying in the weeds,
12:37 saw him counter with the left.
12:40 We've seen a couple of instances in which he's countered,
12:43 but to this point, it seems as if the strategy
12:45 has been to really lay back.
12:48 Let's see if Federici unfolds a little bit here,
12:50 as round number three comes to an end.
12:53 A big, solid shot there by the big Australian
12:57 to close this round out.
12:59 So get a good look there at Blake Caporello
13:06 out of West Meadows, Victoria, Australia,
13:08 former WBC Oceania champ and IBO champion of the world.
13:13 We get another example there in that last shot,
13:17 Federici's, the over the shoulder,
13:20 and as you said it perfectly,
13:22 kinda hitting the opponent with the palm,
13:24 I don't know how much of an impact that's really gonna have.
13:25 - Yeah, you know, he'd obviously be a lot more effective
13:30 if he was turning his hand there.
13:32 But again, I've seen this happen in other fights.
13:37 What did you make of what we saw out of Caporello
13:39 in the final minute of that round?
13:41 - Well, I mean, he caught him at the very end with the left.
13:44 So I mean, again, he's got a sneaky punch to him.
13:48 But he's going into the corner again.
13:53 He's getting trapped back in the corner again,
13:54 and he wants to stay out of that corner.
13:57 - Round four of our main event,
13:59 this one's slated for 10 rounds.
14:01 Blake Caporello in the teal.
14:06 Simone Federici in the black and gold trunks.
14:11 So again, some more clutching and grabbing.
14:19 Federici with the opening foray.
14:21 Caporello on the counter.
14:24 - That's what Caporello has to do.
14:27 He has to use his jab to keep him at bay.
14:35 - Not a lot of action in the center of the ring
14:37 for the better part of the last three rounds.
14:39 Much of the action taking place along the ropes,
14:41 along the corners.
14:42 - Nothing damaging, really, to tell you the truth.
14:45 Again, just accumulating points here and there so far.
14:49 For both fighters, that is.
14:53 - To this point, Caporello launching a couple of counters,
15:04 but haven't really been able to land anything
15:08 sizable with that left.
15:09 He's been sneaking the left, he's been hiding the left.
15:12 Hasn't landed, yes, Federici,
15:15 with a more direct attack to this point.
15:17 As we box in round number four.
15:19 - See, with that peekaboo style,
15:32 he's getting hit a lot on the gloves.
15:34 It's tough to get in on him with that style of defense.
15:38 On Federici, that is.
15:40 - Again, Federici pressing the action.
15:42 Caporello out of the ropes.
15:46 Approaching one minute to fight here in round number four.
15:51 Arthur McCandie Jr., our official.
16:03 He's been busy in this one so far.
16:05 - A lot of clutching and grabbing here in the main event.
16:08 - Arthur is a world-class referee,
16:11 the son of the great Arthur McCandie Sr.,
16:14 who is, of course, a legend.
16:32 - 120 seconds remain here in round number four.
16:35 Federici continues to push, continues to press,
16:53 and that's gonna do it for round number five.
16:56 We'll be back in the sixth frame on Fight Night Live.
17:00 (dramatic music)
17:04 (upbeat music)
17:06 (dramatic music)

18:43 - Back here at the Paramount Theater,
19:06 Huntington, New York, Fight Night Live.
19:09 Joe Guardia, Star Boxing, Friday Night Rocking Fights 46.
19:13 As we enter action in round five,
19:16 this one's slated for 10 rounds.
19:18 Our main event, to the Furuki alongside Danny Chavone.
19:21 Blake Caporello in the teal trunks.
19:29 Simone Federici, out of Italy,
19:32 in the black and gold.
19:33 And Federici, as he has done, really,
19:35 for the better part of the last three and a half rounds,
19:37 pushing the action, pushing Caporello up against ropes.
19:41 Caporello having to spend a lot of energy
19:43 just trying to get out of the ropes
19:45 in terms of wrestling his way out of the ropes.
19:50 And you wonder how it's gonna play later on in this fight.
19:53 But it's been a lot of clutching, a lot of grabbing.
19:57 Not a lot of offense out of Caporello.
19:59 Federici, the one initiating most,
20:03 virtually most, if not all the attacks so far.
20:06 With Caporello being really more on the back foot,
20:10 relying on the counters.
20:11 - You know, I gotta tell ya,
20:15 I'm starting to get the feeling a little bit
20:17 that Federici is getting a little frustrated.
20:20 He's missing a lot.
20:22 He's missing a lot.
20:23 You know, Caporello has some pretty good
20:28 head movement there.
20:30 And as you can see with that right, again, missing.
20:33 And that expends a lot of energy.
20:36 When you swing and miss, I'll tell you something,
20:38 that takes a lot out of you.
20:40 And that's what's happening here.
20:41 Starting to press him, trying to get inside him,
20:46 trying to connect, but having a bit of a difficult time,
20:50 Federici is.
20:51 Mouthpieces out. - Yeah, one of the
20:59 mouthpieces is out.
21:01 Not a knockdown. - Anthony McCante
21:02 waves that off. - Though, though,
21:04 (crowd shouting)
21:06 Federici did get caught there.
21:07 So there is a count. - Yep, that's it.
21:14 He changed his mind. - That's it.
21:16 - Arthur McCante saw that he was injured.
21:18 - A shocking turn of events.
21:20 - Yes, absolutely. - We saw mouthpiece fall.
21:22 And at first, the initial gesture was
21:24 there was no knockdown.
21:26 But then, upon confirmation, there was, there was a count.
21:32 And just like that, Simone Federici is down for the count.
21:37 And Blake Caporello is your winner.
21:41 - Well. - Not a lot of offense.
21:44 Not a lot of attack.
21:46 But that one little sneak attack
21:49 proved to be stunning enough to turn this match on its ear.
21:54 And Blake Caporello walks out of here with two titles.
22:00 He walks out of here with the WBC Continental Americas
22:04 and WBA and ABA Gold Cruiserweight Championship.
22:08 What a stunning turn of events.
22:11 - Yes, it actually was.
22:13 You know, basically we saw that the mouthpiece came out.
22:17 You know, Arthur McCante's a tremendous referee.
22:22 It might've been at an angle where he thought
22:23 that it was more of a push,
22:25 then realized that this guy was injured.
22:27 He was hurt and that he wasn't gonna be able to get up.
22:30 So he started to give, to initiate an eight count.
22:34 And he was unable to basically answer the bell.
22:37 - Now, if we can get a replay on this,
22:39 I would love to see that final punch.
22:43 And at what point, I think this is where the,
22:47 yep, there's the left. - That was it.
22:49 - Yeah, this is, - For the left.
22:50 - I'd like to see it. - Let's see it again.
22:52 - Yeah, well, I'm not sure what.
22:54 - Again, as I said, he's got a sneaky punch.
22:59 And you know, it was quick.
23:02 It was, you know, you really had to take
23:05 another look at that, actually.
23:07 So again, I think that's what was happening
23:10 with the referee in there.
23:11 - We'll get another look at that
23:18 in just a matter of moments.
23:20 But we're gonna go back into the ring.
23:21 Once again, here's our ring announcer, Mark Braddow.
23:23 - Ladies and gentlemen,
23:26 the official time comes at two minutes, 10 seconds
23:31 in round number five.
23:35 Your winner by knockout
23:38 and the new WBC Continental Americas
23:43 and NABA Gold Cruiserweight Champion
23:47 from West Meadows, Victoria, Australia,
23:52 Blake "El Capo" Caparello.
23:57 - This entire bout, literally,
24:10 turned on his spear in one punch.
24:13 And we're gonna have to get another look
24:16 to see the delivery of that punch
24:20 because that took place right in front of us, Danny.
24:23 And I don't know about you,
24:24 I didn't really see anything that devastating,
24:26 but the way that Federici went down,
24:29 was again, another look at this.
24:31 - Oh, wow.
24:32 - Again, quick shot to the chin.
24:37 You saw the whip action of the head rotation.
24:40 Watch, watch again.
24:42 - Yeah, right there.
24:43 - Watch that left, bam, right there.
24:44 That's it.
24:45 And you know what?
24:46 Again, his head rotated to the left
24:49 and that's where you get the concussion, okay?
24:52 It's the speed of the brain hitting the skull
24:57 based on the rotation of the head.
25:00 And that's the definition
25:01 of how you come up with a concussion.
25:03 And that's why he could not get his bearings.
25:05 - That is the beauty and the unfair nature
25:09 of the sport that we love that is called boxing.
25:12 - And it was so quick.
25:13 I mean, really, we had to watch it ourselves
25:15 and we were right here.
25:16 That was a very, very quick left-hand hook.
25:21 And I really don't, I personally don't think
25:25 that Arthur McCantee was in a position
25:27 that he could actually see that.
25:29 That's why I thought that he thought it was a push.
25:31 - So you know what?
25:32 - Can't see everything all the time.
25:33 - Take this through.
25:34 - Can't be everywhere all the time.
25:35 - We had the benefit of you being a hall of fame
25:38 boxing referee.
25:39 What took place right there
25:40 when Arthur McCantee initially waves
25:44 that it was not a knockdown,
25:46 but it seemed as if he got...
25:49 - You know what?
25:50 It's like I said, everything is about positioning.
25:53 Doesn't mean he was out of position.
25:54 This was in the corner, okay?
25:56 But again, that was such a quick.
