00:00 Where do you think Harry and Meghan fit into this picture,
00:02 if at all, ever again?
00:04 We have a degree of compassion, particularly for Harry,
00:07 because we can level all the criticism we like at those
00:14 we love or no longer love.
00:16 We don't assume, oh, I better hold back
00:18 because they might have cancer.
00:19 I mean, that just doesn't enter into it.
00:22 So when you do discover that your sister-in-law has cancer
00:27 and you've written stuff that can't be retracted,
00:29 that's quite a painful place to be in.
00:31 I'm not saying it isn't self-made.
00:33 The other thing is that they deliberately
00:34 criticize the monarchy, positing themselves
00:36 as an alternative to monarchy.
00:37 So then when the monarchy's in trouble,
00:39 we do kind of make a comparison.
00:42 Can Harry and Meghan really hold themselves up
00:44 as the caring example now?
00:45 Because look what's happening over on Britain's side
00:48 of the Atlantic.
00:50 I think it leaves them in an invidious position.
00:52 I wouldn't want to be in their position right now.
00:55 They're certainly going to have to be careful of their timing
00:58 with any releases so that it doesn't look opportunistic.
01:00 Because like I say, the big C, it's kind of the untouchable,
01:03 isn't it?
01:04 When that comes creeping in the door,
01:05 that just reframes everything.
01:07 People used to criticize them all.
01:08 Philip was ill.
01:09 The Queen was ill.
01:11 But all people are--
01:12 you know, that's the nature of the game in extreme old age,
01:15 I'm afraid.
01:16 And what was Harry meant to do, say nothing forever?
01:17 But I think with this, this is--
01:19 again, it's the natural order.
01:20 It's unprecedented.
01:22 And I think they know probably they've
01:23 got to watch their stuff.
01:25 The other thing that would have perhaps taken them by surprise
01:27 is the level of interest Kate garnered.
01:31 There was a silver lining in some ways for the royal family
01:33 around these conspiracy theories.
01:35 They have a new megastar in Kate.
01:37 I mean, you know that in America, Christine.
01:38 And while you're doing this conversation with me now,
01:40 would you have done it even two months ago?
01:42 She became, I think, one of the most famous women in the world,
01:46 did she not? - Oh, 100%.
01:47 You were certainly getting calls from Australia,
01:49 from Romania, from America in a way
01:50 that I haven't since the Queen died.
01:52 And then you get right up there with all the conspiracy
01:56 theories, and then bang, you put out that video,
01:58 that perfectly framed, professionally filmed video,
02:01 saying, hey, I got cancer, man.
02:03 And respect all you cancer sufferers.
02:05 She's kind of arrived on the scene in a big way.
02:09 And I think that makes it hard for Harry and Meghan,
02:13 who rely on the fame game in a way the royal family don't,
02:15 to make their money for their identity now.
02:17 See you now.
