Long considered a Garden of Eden for migratory birds, the Vain Lagoon along the northern Albanian coast has been increasingly abandoned by a range of species as rising temperatures wreak havoc on wetlands across the country. Millions of migratory birds pass through the country's skies every year on flights north in search of food and a warmer climate. But fewer birds are making the journey through Albania as its wetlands become too hot and polluted, with nature reserve official Kreshnik Toni saying that the Vain Lagoon is being "heavily affected by climate change".
