00:00 Well I'm really excited to announce that I'll be a candidate for leader of the Labor Party
00:06 here in Tasmania along with Anita Dowers, the nominee to be deputy leader of the Labor
00:10 Party here in Tasmania again.
00:13 Really honoured to have Anita's support going forward and she's somebody that I've got a
00:17 massive amount of respect for and I've worked really closely with over the last almost three
00:21 years.
00:22 Both of us were really, really pleased to support Rebecca White at the last election
00:29 and over the course of the last two and a half years.
00:32 Unfortunately the election result for Labor though wasn't what we wanted.
00:37 We were pushing for majority government and we didn't get close.
00:40 We understand that Tasmanians have sent us a message.
00:43 They've said to us that we weren't ready and we need to accept the feedback and understand
00:48 that the voters are always right.
00:50 There's no division within our party.
00:53 We at this last election, what you've seen is a Labor Party that was completely united.
00:58 We were completely united at the last election only a couple of weeks ago and that was displayed
01:03 fully.
01:04 That will continue to be the way that we approach things.
01:08 It's not about anything other than what's in the best interest of Tasmanians.
01:12 We want to make sure that the Labor Party is in a really strong position to lead Tasmania.
01:18 We believe fundamentally that Labor governments is what Tasmania needs and we believe that
01:23 Tasmania has done better under Labor governments.
01:26 It was Labor that built the Hydro, it was Labor that built Baslink, it was Labor that
01:29 built the Tasmanian Gas Pipeline.
01:31 We're the ones that brought the spirit of Tasmania to the state.
01:34 Labor governments have been massively successful here in this state but it's been too long
01:38 since we've been in government.
01:40 I think he's the right person for the job at the right time in Tasmanian politics and
01:45 for the Tasmanian Labor Party.
01:47 Dean is driven, he's well connected to his community and he's provided outstanding
01:51 leadership to us over the term of the last three years of the Parliament.
01:55 Through his role as Leader of Government Business in the House and more broadly across the community
01:59 on issues of importance.
