00:12 Hello and welcome to Insiders daily business briefing.
00:15 We're here to talk about the news stories from around the UK.
00:19 My name is Lawrence Glennon, Digital News Editor, and I'm here with Alice Bird, our North East Correspondent.
00:24 Well Alice, one story that's caught my eye this morning is the results for Playdale Playgrounds.
00:30 They're a Cumbrian business which makes climbing frames, swings and roundabouts, which is seen in parks around the country and indeed internationally.
00:40 They've said that investment into the business is set to drive increased turnover in 2024.
00:45 They're led by a friend of Insider, Barry Leakey, MBE. I understand you've had some dealings with Barry.
00:52 Yeah, I actually spoke to Barry last year for the January edition of our North West Business Insider magazine.
00:58 He was speaking about productivity and how that's key to fixing the UK's economy.
01:03 Well yeah, a friend of Insider actually, Barry is perhaps best known in the office for his participation in a celebrity boxing bout where he took on Simon Keegan, the North West Editor, and was successful in that bout challenge set.
01:16 But anyhow, what else has caught your eye Alice?
01:19 So some exciting news for Newcastle. The State Council's Planning Committee is set to meet this week to sign off plans to redevelop underutilised areas of Eldon Square.
01:28 Now, bosses from the shopping centre unveiled their vision for the site last year and this includes the top floor of the former Debenhams department store.
01:37 There's lots of new uses planned, so a new go-karting track as well as mini golf course.
01:42 Interesting, we have seen quite a lot of that, repurposing places, former department stores and so on. Anything else Alice?
01:49 So sticking on the topic of regeneration, Sefton Council's Planning Committee is also meeting this week.
01:54 They're going to sign off 53 homes to be built on the former Butel High School site in Nefferton and Salloway Homes is the developer for that scheme.
02:02 Okay, so plenty going on in the world of property. Actually we recently released the shortlist for our biggest awards. We're heading into big awards season after Easter, so we did the shortlist for the North West Property Awards.
02:15 But please do stay tuned to insidermedia.com for details of all our upcoming events and business news from across the UK.
02:22 So that's us for today for our business bulletin. Tune in tomorrow for more news. Thank you, bye now.
