Telford & Wrekin Council says a new road junction on Holyhead Road (B5061) in St Georges has reopened "on time and on budget" after major improvement works.
Transcript
00:00 Hollyhead Road has been a multi-discipline project which is between structures, traffic and highways.
00:06 We've reconstructed about 90 metres of retaining wall. We're also doing a lot of resurfacing,
00:11 changing the levels of the road. You'll have noticed when you used to drive down Hollyhead
00:15 Road you'd curve to the one side. When you drive through now it'll be a nice clean run.
00:20 There is also improvements for pedestrians. The footpaths, the widths have been increased,
00:25 we've got new signs and new lightings. So the traffic lights also have some enhanced features.
00:30 These have got new digital radar system. This will enable the traffic lights to monitor traffic and
00:36 keep traffic more free-flowing. It can be used with smartphone apps which can help people with
00:40 mobility issues safely cross the road. We've also had to reconstruct the retaining wall. We've had to
00:47 core into the ground, stick some large galvanised steel posts in filled with concrete infill panels.
00:53 Even in 1969 when I started at Lillisle Steel it was collapsing then. It looks like they've done a
00:58 good job. You tried to cross the road there, you couldn't. You had to dodge in and out of the
01:03 traffic or go all the way up to Hazel Way. But now everything seems a lot safer for people.
01:09 Yeah, I didn't realise there were smart traffic lights but that would be good because if you go
01:13 down to Alders it's a lot easier. And Wixies is down there as well. I mean now it should last
01:19 for a long time now because it's been done properly hasn't it. It's all been cut out and
01:23 that so yeah it'll be good. I do thank you all for your patience. The team have worked hard to
01:28 deliver this project and make sure that we keep to programme and to budget. So thanks
01:33 you very much for your patience really.
