Middleton Railway Community Day
Transcript
00:00 I'm Ian Smith, I'm the Vice President of the Middleton Railway Trust and today is our community
00:11 day and here we have a number of stalls from various community organisations. We've got
00:17 the fire brigade, we've got the police and a little bit later on we're going to have
00:21 a visit from the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Al Garthwaite. We'll also have Hilary Benn,
00:28 our local MP and local councillors visiting us. So the Middleton Railway was first opened
00:35 in 1758 and we've operated trains every single year since then to where the world's oldest
00:43 operational railway. In addition to that we had our first steam locomotives in 1812, beating
00:51 the well-known George Stevenson and in 1960 we operated the first standard gauge heritage
00:58 railway. We're gearing up for a new season where we're hoping to welcome many visitors
01:05 to the railway and we hope we'll see you soon.
