00:03 Playboy alum Holly Madison is calling out Crystal Hefner for copying her book.
00:08 The down-the-rabbit-hole curious adventures and cautionary tales of a former Playboy Bunny author
00:13 says the wife of late Playboy founder Hugh Hefner is copying her writing style in her own memoir.
00:18 Crystal Hefner came out with her book Only Say Good Things Surviving Playboy and Finding
00:23 Myself back in January and in a March 26th episode of the Lady Gang podcast,
00:27 Holly Madison accuses her of copying her own memoir.
00:31 "Anybody who's read my book that came out eight years ago and then read her book,
00:34 tell me the narrative voice doesn't sound exactly the same.
00:37 Drives me up a wall."
00:39 And while the 44-year-old admitted there would certainly be similarities between her 2015
00:44 bestseller and Crystal's work given their tumultuous relationships with Hugh in the
00:49 Playboy mansion, she said reading her story felt like reading my own book.
00:53 "And I'm not saying when I say narrative voice, I don't mean of course you're going to be writing
00:57 about a lot of the same things, like you dated the same person, we might even come to some of
01:00 the same conclusions. But when I was reading it and there were sometimes I was like, I feel like
01:05 I'm reading my own book. This is creepy. Like she weaves fairy tale references in and out just like
01:10 I did and uses a lot of the same, you know, psychological, you know, catchphrases and
01:15 things like that. And I'm like, like, if you take my book and Kendra's book, it's two completely
01:20 different people, even though we live there at the same time, like it's two completely different
01:24 voices as it should be. So I'm not, I'm weirded out by it, especially since she had a ghostwriter,
01:30 like do your research and don't copy. Oh, she did have a ghostwriter. Yes.
01:35 So the ghostwriter read your book and was like, here's a book.
01:37 We've written two books. We know what happened. They went in a conference room and someone was
01:41 like, you know, it was great. Holly's book was great. You should, we want a book like that,
01:44 but your stories. And then someone went and did that. Like, and that bothers me.
01:48 And though Holly wished she and Crystal could have just done our own thing,
01:52 she admitted it was comforting to hear that the 37 year old who was married to Hugh until his death
01:57 in 2017 had experienced some of the same low moments while living in the mansion.
02:02 Supportive of her telling her story. I think we probably went through a lot of the same things
02:06 in that relationship. And a lot of it's been very relieving for me to hear even before her book came
02:11 out. When she talks about feeling like she always felt like she had to walk on eggshells or always
02:15 felt like she was going to have the rug pulled out from her under any moment. That was so relieving
02:19 for me to hear. Cause I'm like, I was the only one who said that for the longest time, you know,
02:23 but when I read something and like the narrative voice is the same.
02:26 It bothers me, especially since, you know, it was, it's always kind of hard to come out and
02:30 tell your story at first, especially when you're crucified for it. Because when my book came out,
02:34 he was still alive. It was before the me too movement went mainstream. You know, I got,
02:38 you were crushed. The book was very successful, but I got dragged. Now it's a little bit easier
02:44 for people to come out and tell their stories and to just have the same narrative voice in the book.
02:49 And you know, there's people on that publishing team that worked at the public, my publishing
02:55 house, promoting my book when it came out. And it just does, it doesn't feel good to me.
02:59 Yeah. E News has reached out to Crystal's rep for comment, but has not heard back.
03:03 In a recent interview with East Francesca Omaker, Holly Madison talked about if she has any regrets
03:08 from her time at the Playboy mansion. I wouldn't necessarily want to go back and relive it,
03:13 but I definitely wouldn't change anything because I learned so much. And I feel like my purpose here
03:16 on earth is to share my story and to help open people's minds to different perspectives.
